AS PRESENTED AT THE
MARCH 4-7, 2021 | PHILADELPHIA, PA
MARY BENTLEY LAMAR
North Atlantic Regional Director
As presented in the First Plenary Session of the 90th North
Atlantic Regional Conference on March 5, 2021:
Leading With a High Note
I JUST WANT TO BE LIKE YOU!
You have embraced operating virtually this year by:
• Conducting chapter meetings virtually;
• End of the Year Reporting in the North Atlantic Region is up and
ranked at 100%; and
• Conducting Standards investigations in spite of challenges.
Sisterly Outreach
You have supported each other with sisterly outreach:
• Ongoing soror engagement through regional eblasts and
ongoing updates to various websites and our social media pages;
• The NAR Golden Soror Committee has been instrumental in
keeping the Golden, Pearl and Diamond sorors connected
through cards, calls, and sisterly poems;
• Regional weekly prayer calls have occurred consistently since
the onset of the pandemic;
• Sorors have been looking out for one another in light of the
pandemic;
• We have conducted food drop offs and have grocery shopped
for our seasoned sorors.
• We have assisted each other with navigating with technology,
Zoom calls and webinars, etc.; and
• We came together to mourn the loss of Soror Eva Evans,
our 24th Supreme Basileus.
Programs
You, my Sisters in Service have served your
communities in spite of this pandemic. The North Atlantic
Region has made exceptional progress toward achieving the
International Program goals as we concluded 2020. We have met or exceeded
program goals.
In all the targets, we are doing well, ad if we have exceeded our goals, we are
close to it.
In summary, we have achieved and exceeded the following regional goals:
• #CAP - > 100%
• Targets 2, 3 and 4 - > 100%
4
• Target 5 (Eyeglasses and RAAP) - > 100%
We are close to achieving the following regional
goals:
• Target 5, Soles4Souls: 88% toward goal
• Target 5, Pillowcase Dresses: 97% toward goal
• Target 1 $upport HBCU: donated $1.055M of the
$1.445M needed to achieve goal
We are still working towards the following regional
goals:
• Target 5, Pillowcase Shirts: 41% toward NAR
goal
Fundraising
You have found new ways to raise even more
funds, in more ways, than previously
imagined.
Because of YOU, we are able to commit $50,000 as
a region to the EAF HBCU $1 Million in One Day
Campaign for 2021
We have capitalized four (4) Education
Advancement Foundation (EAF) funds:
1. The NAR Diamond Soror Endowment
2. The Lois Mailou Jones Fine Arts Endowment
3. The Gene Ann Polk Horne Endowment
4. Dr. Yvonne Barnett and Dr. Rhoneise Barnett-
Smith Legacy Endowment Scholarship Fund
And for the third year in a row, we are at
over $100,000 in corporate sponsorships.
New Members
The Fall of 2020 saw seven (7) Undergraduate
chapters bring in new members under the modified
MIP process.
Academic Excellence
You have excelled academically in spite of
remote learning. We commend our
undergraduates in the 4.0 Club. In spite of it all, you
have done well.

these United States of America;
• Chapters strolled to the polls;
• Made the connection and support for social
justice; and
• Individual sorors exercised their right to vote and
supported their candidate of choice.
Your service has increased the reach of Alpha Kappa
Alpha throughout the region and beyond.

As the state of the North Atlantic Region is provided, I thought
it was important to offer the following information regarding

Soror Susan Y. Peevy, North Atlantic Region continues to make a stance in our illustrious

it cannot be counted for regional contributions.

Highlights of the 90th North Atlantic Region
Service Projects
The service project focus for the North Atlantic
Regional Conference was all five Excellence
Program Targets. Below is a summary of the
results of each Target. Kudos to Soror Robyn R.
Jones, Chairman of the
North Atlantic Regional Conference Service Projects, and her team.
Target 1 – HBCU for Life: A Call to Action
Chapters were asked to donate funds to support HBCUs. Collections from
September 1, 2020 thru February 15, 2021 were counted in the totals for
NARC. Collectively, the North Atlantic Region donated $282,853 in support of HBCUs. Top Cluster
chapters are noted below.
18
Target 2 – Women’s Healthcare and Wellness
During NARC, Cluster 2 sorors provided daily “Brain Breaks” which included
“Mindful Moments and Movement Videos.” These presentations provided
opportunities for sorors to exercise, learn health tips, and become one with
themselves.
Target 3 – Building Your Economic Legacy
Four initiatives were supported under Target 3, “Buy Black 365”, “No More
Secrets”, “Chosen 300”, and Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium. With “Buy
Black 365”, sorors were encouraged to shop with our NARC vendors. Sorors
were also encouraged to buy their meals from minority restaurants and caterers
during NARC. The Notable North Atlantic Region also made three significant
donations to the following:
• $7,000 – No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit, Inc. (Sorors also donated menstrual hygiene
products)
• $7,000 – Chosen 300 Ministries, Inc. (Aid in feeding homeless in Philadelphia)
• $25,000 – Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium
19
Target 4 – The Arts
The North Atlantic Region showcased the future of
African American artist through a Middle School
Art Contest. Middle school students (6th – 8th
grades) were invited to enter an art competition
with their work focusing on the Harlem
Renaissance or the Black Arts Movements.
The mediums were drawing, painting sculpture, and photography. The
works were judged by two professional artists, Khalilah Birdsong and
Art Gartmond. A winner was selected from each category with an
overall winner.
20
Target 5 – Global Impact
Chapters were asked to tally their completion of Target 5 pillowcase shirts
from September 1, 2020 thru February 15, 2021. Collectively, the North
Atlantic Region completed 1,166 pillowcase shirts within the specified period.
Top Cluster chapters are noted below.
With the momentum that the North Atlantic Region has displayed over the past year, I am confident
that all Excellence goals will be reached very soon. Thank you North Atlantic Region. Your efforts
translate into assistance for our community, locally, regionally, and internationally.
