The Five Pillars of
Faith of Islam

By: Talia Ablett

1st Pillar: Shahadah/Faith ‫ﻻ إﻟﮫ إﻻ اﻟﻠﮫ‬

Shahadah or Faith is for Muslims to Translation: (there is no
show they believe in one God and in god but Allah)
heaven and hell. Muslims believe that
Allah, one all powerful God created
the universe. They also believe God
created angels to do his work. This
pillar may have influenced Muslims’
daily lives because it influenced what
they believe in and what they must
believe in like Allah.

2nd Pillar: Salat/Prayer

Salat or Prayer is the times to pray for
Muslims and how they pray. Muslims are
called to pray five times a day, dawn, noon,
midday, sunset, and after nightfall. Before
they pray, Muslims must wash their hands,
face, arms, and feet. This pillar may have
influenced Muslims daily lives because
when they are called to pray, they must
stop what they’re doing and pray, which
might mess up their schedule.

3rd Pillar: Zakat/Charity

Zakat or Charity means purification.
Muslims believe wealth is “pure” when
it is shared with the less fortunate
people to control greed. Zakat also
provides aid to stranded travelers.
This pillar might’ve made Muslims
more caring and “pure” since they
have to share their money and to not
become greedy.

4th Pillar: Siyam/Fasting

Siyam or Fasting according to the
Qu’ran, it is a way to worship God. They
call this the Ramadan, in the Ramadan,
during the day Muslims must not eat or
drink anyhing. The only time when they
can eat is at the end of the day when
they come home and eat with their
families. This pillar would probably
make the muslims more discplined
because they are good about not eating
a lot.

5th Pillar: Hajj/Pilgrimage

Hajj or Pilgrimage is when millions of
belivers from all over the world come
together at Makkah. They pray at
every scared site to another saying,
“Here I am, O God, at thy command!”
This pillar would influence muslims’
lives because they would have to
travel around to sacred sites and
preach the word of God, and this is a
long process so it must’ve been tiring.
