The Comparative Study Research (CSR) for Malaysian Command and Staff Course (Joint) (MCSCJ) Serial 53/2024 is scheduled to take place in Indonesia from 4 to 8 March 2024. This research is carried out as part of the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM) Postgraduate Diploma module in PSD 5114 Strategic Studies and Security Affairs in the Asian Region (SSSAAR). This booklet is produced to provide the delegation with useful and handy information throughout the visit. It contains all pertinent information about the visit, as well as some information about the organisation involved. 3 MAFSC MAFSC functions as a centre of excellence in conducting studies which emphasize on jointness for all the services in the Malaysian Armed Forces. The objectives of MAFSC are as shown below: ▪ Conduct strategic and defence studies aligned towards the goal to develop leaders with quality who have skills in planning and execution of war as well as management of resources in a joint warfare environment. ▪ Develop military officers who can execute their roles as commanders and staff at the joint operations. ▪ Develop military officers who can evaluate factors and concepts in military development and management in defence organization. 4 The Republic of Indonesia is the world's 4 th most populous country (279,798,049 as of Feb 2024) and one of the most populous Muslim citizenries in the world although officially it is not an Islamic state. Jawa Island is home to half of the nation’s population and the Javanese are the largest and most politically dominant ethnic group. Indonesia is a presidential and constitutional republic with an elected legislature where by the President of Indonesia is both head of state and government. It has 34 provinces, each headed by a governor and a legislative body. Five of the provinces are given special administrative status due to circumstances dictated by the local citizenry and the local government. Indonesia is an archipelagic country extending about 5,120 km from East to West and 1,760 km from North to South of which it shares land borders with Malaysia (2,062 km), Papua New Guinea (821 km), and East Timor-Leste (269 km). Other neighbouring countries include Singapore, Philippines, Australia, and the Indian territory of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 11 The Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta was set up in 1957. In 1990, due to expansion of work and staff, the Government of Malaysia began to construct a new Embassy complex at No. 1-3, Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan at a 5 acres piece of land. The construction was completed in September 1992. The Complex was officially opened by the Y.A.BTun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, when he was then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia on 9 February 1993. 12 MAFSC MARKAS BESAR TENTARA NASIONAL INDONESIA (MABES TNI) The Headquarters of the Indonesian National Armed Forces location at Cilangkap, Cipayung District, East Jakarta City, Special Capital Region of Jakarta 13870, Indonesia. The most senior officer at TNI Headquarters, the TNI Commander, is a high-ranking four-star officer with the rank of General, Admiral or Marshal leading the TNI under the President. 13 MAFSC UNIVERSITAS PERTAHANAN INDONESIA (UNHAN) Universitas Pertahanan Indonesia (UNHAN) or Indonesia Defence University (IDU) was established through the Minister of Education Letter Number 29/MPN/OT/2009 dated 6 March 2009 regarding the establishment of the IDU and was inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on 11 March 2009 at the State Palace. The IDU is a unique higher education institution because it specialises in defence studies at the Masters level. 14 MAFSC PT DIRGANTARA INDONESIA (PTDI) PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero), also known as PTDI is one of the indigenous aerospace companies in Asia with core competencies in aircraft design and development, aircraft structure manufacturing, aircraft production, and aircraft services for both civilian and military of light and medium aircraft. Since being established in 1976, as a state-owned company in Bandung, Indonesia, PTDI has successfully developed and grown its capability in the aerospace industry. In the field of aircraft manufacturing, PTDI has been producing various types of aircraft, such as CN235 for Civil or Military Transport, Maritime Surveillance Aircraft, Maritime Patrol Aircraft, and Coast Guard aircraft. In total, PTDI has delivered nearly 400 aircraft to 50 operators worldwide.
