SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM In This issue: The Origin of SVGTCCU Message from Hon. OrandoBrewster 45th Anniversary in PhotosVISIT OUR WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA TO GET UPDATES FROM SVGTCCU! NEWSLETTER 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION Sis. Miriam Roache, President Brothers and Sisters I greet you all in the wonderful name of our lord and Saviour, and I take this opportunity to welcome all members to participate in the activities to mark the 45th Anniversary of our Credit Union. This special anniversary SAVER follows on the end commemorative activities to mark the 45 th Anniversary of SVGTCCU and a church service under the theme 45 years: Continuity, Stability and Sustainability for all Vincentians. The importance of having a worship service cannot be overstated. As a Christian community we do understand the need for God’s mercies and blessings on our lives and livelihoods. So, we reflected on His goodness towards us and gave Him thanks for bringing our organization to this point and for continued blessings into the future. A Credit Union was the answer to the prayers of disenfranchised teachers. God gifted these teachers with the foresight, knowledge and skills to fulfil a mission. A mission that was articulated many years ago and is still very relevant to this day, that of fulfilling a dire need for financial security. The St. Vincent and Grenadines Teachers Cooperative Credit Union (SVGTCCU) is therefore a financial institution with a very interesting origin and an amazing history. A history worthy of sharing so that successive generations could learn from its past and align with its purpose, values and principles. Forty-five (45) years ago, on May 24, 1978 six teachers affixed their signatures and made a financial contribution to register a credit union called the St Vincent Union of Teachers Cooperative Credit Union. The initial effort of eleven teachers to register this credit union was thwarted and it was not until three years after the historic 1975 Teachers’ strike that this initiative took effect. This strike led to many teachers being imprisoned, transferred and dismissed. Many teachers lost incomes; their homes and their motivation. This was indeed a difficult period for educators but as the Almighty has ordained, it metamorphosed into a period of enlightenment. The realization that governments sometimes opt to use their power to destabilize workers and their unions was even more apparent and led to a call to action “United We Stand Divided We Fall” . Teachers united around a single cause that of establishing a viable entity that would provide support for its members in a time of need. We give thanks for those who were at the helm of the St. Vincent Union of Teachers during the three-year period of 1975-1978, when the Credit Union was conceptualized. It was their militance, gumption and resourcefulness that led to the establishment of what we now enjoy and celebrate. Brothers and sisters, on reflection it is clear that these leaders were visionaries and our gratitude towards them should never wane. Theirs is a legacy that heirs praise. So today, we recognize the National Executive of the St Vincent Union of Teachers of the period 1975 to 1978, who ideated the Credit Union and worked tirelessly amidst opposition and many obstacles to realize its registration. Our predecessors had the foresight of creating an institution that was not focused primarily on the generation of surplus but on the principle of people helping people. We began as a unified teachers’ body chanting “United We Stand Divided We Fall”. 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION Continued on pg. 1

SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM Those words gain greater clarity as we recognize how they are embedded in the cooperative principles. Today, I wishIcould say with conviction that we are all still of one mind. My hope though, is that the legacy that we haveinheritedis enough to keep us grounded on these principles. Brothers, Sisters, and Colleagues the records show that our Credit Union has emerged as a successful organization, due in part to the loyalty and commitment of its members, employees, and volunteers. We have achievedmanyremarkable accomplishments. I salute the two Chief Executive Officers who have served the Credit Unionover thepast 45 years. Bro. Asset is now at $171M and we have crossed the one hundredmillion($100M) mark on the loan portfolio. Our growth was augmented in part by the merger with the BarrouallieCooperative Credit Union on November 3, 2014. This merger also facilitated a branch on the Leeward coast. Other branches are located in: · Bequia which commenced operation in December. 2006 · On Union Island, which opened on March 1st, 2012 and · On Canouan which opened in November 2018 We have achieved much over the 45 years but in my opinion, after the establishment of the Credit Union, theextension of the common bond to all Vincentians at home and abroad, is by far the most important activity. SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM CEO's Remarks - Sis. Jasmine Huggins NEWSLETTER PAGE 3 The SVG Teachers Cooperative Credit Union Ltd was originally conceptualized out of a need to provide a solution for teachers who were disenfranchised after the 1975 strike, and who, by virtue of standing for their rights, suffered displacement, loss of salary and varying forms of discrimination. As we proudly celebrate the 45th anniversary of this organization, we acknowledge those persons for their strength, foresight, and their resilience. But for those who suffered, this incident is the legacy on which the SVGTCCU was built and has been the hallmark of why we continue to ensure the principle of people helping people is entrenched not only in what we do but how we do it. Thanks to the eleven (11) stalwarts who signed the original registration form for the establishment of the St. Vincent Union of Teachers Cooperative Credit Union Ltd . Had they not demonstrated their commitment in that way, this Credit Union may have been non-existent. Since its registration, the SVG Teachers’ Cooperative Credit Union has experienced extensive growth in every aspect of its operations. There was growth in: (a)Membership (b)Assets, and the (c)Products and services offered. Over the Credit Union’s 45 years of existence, membership has moved from 88 to 13302 We can now agree that the expansion of the common bond was a worthwhile initiative and it provided the impetus for the Credit Union’s growth in membership, having expanded fully in 2004 to ALL Vincentians at home and abroad. The expansion of the Common bond was phased over a nineteen-year period as follows: In 1985, the spouse & children of members of the teaching profession were allowed to join. Four years later in 1989 – brothers, sisters, and parents of members were included. In 1998 the extension allowed for relatives of members, and finally, in 2004, all Vincentians at home and abroad were permitted to join. After the first three months our asset base stood at $3,565. Our assets have grown exponentially and are presently valued at $171 million dollars. Important to note is that loans to members attained its 100-million-dollar mark and currently stands at 102 million dollars. The growth in assets is an indication of the strides the Teachers Credit Union has made over the years and demonstrates its Continuity, Stability and Sustainability. Our products and services have evolved over the years; the range of loans and saving products have expanded and were specifically tailored to enhance the member’s experience. For example, the Revolving Credit Loan with the top-up being the most unique feature which grants members access to funds on demand, and the Bundled Loan Product which makes the acquisition of consumer loans more affordable by bundling with a mortgage, and a suite of saving products, which include the retirement saving plan and the Adolescent saving plan which aids in the security of finance for the future and prepares adults for the next phases in life's journey. I implore all members to establish a retirement savings account and parents to start saving for their children’s future. Other products and services include the Supplies Outlet and the scholarship and bursary program: (i)Our Bookshop/Supplies Outlet commenced operations in 1993 just to provide schoolbooks for members. The service which begun in a back room of the former headquarters has grown into a full-fledged Supplies Outlet, offering both school and office supplies. The Supplies Outlet is available at each branch of the Credit Union. Over the years, the sale of books has been decentralized to other geographic locations such as Chateaubelair, Sandy Bay, Georgetown, and Mesopotamia using satellite services. The decentralization of this service brings the product to the people. There are convenient layaway plans. 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM CEO's Remarks - Sis. Jasmine Huggins NEWSLETTER PAGE 4 They provide printing and copying services and have recently included laminating, shredding, and binding of documents. Very soon, the Supplies Outlet will roll out its online service where persons can purchase their schoolbooks and other supplies online from the comfort of their homes. (ii)Scholarships and Bursaries The TCCU takes special care in giving back to members and their families; and one such way is by investing in their educational development. The Credit Union awarded its first secondary school Scholarship in 1994 for a five year- period; scholarships are now awarded yearly for 7 years to 5 students including one child of a staff member. In the academic year 1999/2000, the first university bursaries were awarded to two members; today we award an average of 10 bursaries yearly. I am sure the many recipients will agree with Benjamin Franklin, when he said, “an investment in knowledge pays the best interest” as many of our scholarship and bursary recipients have excelled in their various disciplines and have made their mark in SVG and throughout Caribbean. The growth in the operational activities necessitated an increase in staff, Branches, and service delivery. The Credit Union commenced with a single staff in the person of the Bro. Julian Jack, who was the Treasurer of the St. Vincent Union of Teachers, the parent body of the Credit Union. It operated with the single staff for many years but grew steadily over the years. Today the Credit Union has 53 members of staff functioning in 5 departments with five branches. (Bequia, Union Island, Canouan, Barrouallie and most recently Chateaubelair). (a) Service Delivery: Enhancing IT Infrastructure The digital age has brought new ways for members to conduct business. As part of the Credit Union’s continuity plan, an IT Department was added to facilitate a technologically enhanced environment. With the establishment of this Department. a suite of products that will facilitate how members can do business was given the Credit Union’s attention and the Department begun to create the framework to integrate these products to improve the delivery of services. Access 365 was initially launched with its first product - On-line Banking Service on June 1, 2017. the second product in the suite was the ATM service, which was launched on December 11, 2017, The third product in the suite was the Mobile App which was launched in 2022. In a nutshell that is how the SVGTCCU has grown but this would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the persons who have laid the foundation like our first CEO Bro. Julian Cecil Jack; he has created that foundation for Continuity, Stability and Sustainability of this noble institution, which he has managed for just about 39 ½ years. We salute Bro. Jack for all his contributions towards the growth and development of the SVGTCCU Ltd. Having worked under the management of Bro. Jack I know how proud and passionate he was of the Credit Union. We thank you for your contributions. The contributions provided by the volunteers, Management and staff cannot go unrecognized. They continue to bring a wealth of knowledge and diversity to the organisation. Their contributions have also enabled Continuity, Stability, and Sustainability to the Teacher Credit Union over its 45 years. The Credit Union has proven to be a safe place to save, and an affordable place to borrow. I trust that as we celebrate this milestone, our members will celebrate their Credit Union’s achievements. We look forward to celebrating with you; 45 years: Continuity, Stability and Sustainability for all Vincentians. SVGTCCU, built by teachers for all Vincentians. 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM Remarks by Hon. Orando Brewster - Minister of National Mobalization NEWSLETTER 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION PAGE 6 Co-operatives the world over, have and continue to prove very effective in delivering a number of socio-economic benefits to large swaths of populations. No wonder, the World Bank has looked to Co-operatives to deliver on key targets of the Sustainable Development Goals. Similarly, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (SVGTCCU), who for the past forty-five (45) years has contributed immensely towards shaping the social and economic landscape of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Foremost, I want to exemplify the Government's unwavering support to continuously provide an enabling environment for co-operatives like the SVGTCCU to flourish and to deliver benefits to members and the general public alike. For this reason, both sustainable regulatory frameworks and major fiscal incentives like tax concessions will continue to provide meaningful opportunities for co-operatives in general to address major developmental issues. The co-operative model that is embraced by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Co-operative Credit Union clearly promotes community ownership of assets. this has proven quite potent in the advancement of society in many ways. Evidence, (TCCU 2021 Annual reports) suggests that the Credit Union continues to create countless social and economic opportunities for its members, local communities, and underserved sections of society. In the areas of poverty reduction, income smoothing, domestic savings, employment creation, access to social services, gender equality, and a number of other socioeconomic indicators, the Credit Union has proven most useful. Ideally, in this article, we will examine a number of ways in which the SVGTCCU has impacted the Nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Key to the development of the Nation's human capital, the St. Vincent Teachers Co-operative Credit Union estimably promotes diversity and inclusion among members and nationals alike. Since cooperatives are established on the principle of open membership and participation, their membership strength represents the different groups of people that make up the broader local community. Therefore, the idea of "members' mutual development" as advocated by this Credit Union will ultimately be transcended to the broader Vincentian community. Historically, SVGTCCU undeniably gives voice and leadership opportunities to individuals and communities that are most times excluded from nationwide participative development model. Such all-involved members approach embraced by TCCU admirably supports the government's strategy of the active citizen-led participation in national development. This practice also mirrors the sociological "melting pot theory" of merging different talents, opinions, and aspirations as it relates to national development. Over the years, in upholding the co-operative principle of Continuous Education, this Credit Union has shown its commitment towards the development and nurturing a cadre of leaders who continue to shape the political, economic, socio-cultural and technological landscape of SVG. I am pleased to mention that individuals like the Hon. Curtis King, Minister of Education, who is a former President and served on different committees of TCCU was a prime beneficiaries of the continuous membership education and governance training administered by this noble organization. Apart from empowering its members, SVGTCCU since its inception, has implemented programs to support people's lives and livelihoods. Through its varied micro-credit programs, many households and small entrepreneurs have accessed finance to meet their individual and family basic needs which have allowed for income smoothing as well as sustainable livelihoods for large sections of the population. The Credit Union continues to meet the financial and economic needs of the Vincentian population through the provision of savings and credit facilities tailored to meet individual needs. One of the strong attributes of the Teachers Credit Union is its unwavering support to the educational development of members, families of members, staff, and the general population at large. Through the provision of training opportunities, bursaries, scholarships, and student loans among others, the Credit Union has solidly complemented the government's Education Revolution Programme at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. With regards to access to healthcare, SVGTCCU through its flagship 'KUTMED HEALTH INSURANCE" product offers protection and coverage to members and their families for medical and preventative care, as well as dental and vision care. It is worth noting that any of the current members, and their families would not have been financially able to afford the prevailing high medical costs, had it not been for this product offered by the Credit Union. Overall, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Credit Union has allowed thousands of nationals to enjoy better standards of living and greater access to social services. It has also proven quite successful in lifting many local households out of poverty and the scourges of vulnerability. As Minister with responsibility for Co-operatives, I am extremely pleased with the invaluable contribution that the SVGTCCU is making to its members, and by extension the wider community of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I am committed to continuously champion the cause for co-operative development locally, and applaud the members and leadership of TCCU on, as we partner in building a better St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Happy 45th anniversary, and may you continue to grow and prosper. Yours truly, Hon. Orando Brewster SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM Remarks by Hon. SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM The Origin of the Teachers Credit Union. by Bro. Junior Bacchus NEWSLETTER 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION PAGE 8 The arrogance and brutality towards workers by the Milton Cato administration between August and December 1975 saw Nurses, Commercial and Technical Workers, Civil Servants and Teachers forced to bond together against a government refused to hear the cry of the ordinary people of the country. It was this rapidly deteriorating industrial relation environment that resulted in the firing, teargassing and transfer of teachers. The Secondary School Teachers Association used this opportunity to unite with the St. Vincent Union of Teachers (which represented primarily primary school teachers) to lead the struggle that was confronting all workers throughout the public system. Following the strike, several teachers were dismissed on the eve of the Christmas period without a salary for November and December. The Teachers Union tried to provide some loan assistance to some teachers to change to agricultural business. The late Calder Williams and Benny Thompson were two such beneficiaries. These teachers loan experience energized the executive of the Union to form a committee to examine the possibility of establishing a cooperative among Union Members. The Committee lead by second Vice President, Bro Cecil “Blazer” Williams who was responsible for Teachers Welfare began work on the creation of a Financial Cooperative/ Credit Union. During the year 1976/77 after months of discussions and research, Brothers “Blazer” Williams and Lennox Morris prepared draft Bye Laws and began the process for the registration of the cooperative. This effort met resistance from the authorities. The Government ensured that at the time no one was in the office of Registrar of Cooperative. The then Permanent Secretary (a strong Laborite and Cato supporter), refused to have the cooperative registered sighting that the applicants – Cecil Pa Jack, Cecil Blazer Williams and Mrs. Yvonne Francis Gibson were all members of other Credit Unions. This discussion was not grounded in law but was simply a political act to frustrate the effort of the Teachers. The Chairperson of the Committee left to go on a Commonwealth Scholarship to the United Kingdom to pursue a master’s degree and Sister Yvonne Francis and others pursued resolutely to eventually have the Credit Union registered May 24, 1978. Sister Yvonne becoming the First President of the Credit Union. During the formative years of the Credit Union, Bro Adrian Fraser recommended that the Trade Union should seek support from the Canadian Teachers Federation for Mr. Julian Jack, the Treasurer of the Trade Union to pursue specialized training in cooperative education at the Coady Institute. Bro Julian Jack was at that time employed as a trucker having been transferred from Belmont School to work in at the Bequia-----School (Hard Area). Frustrated by the disrespect and economic hardship, he was forced to resign and seek alternative employment This request for training was granted and resulted in Bro Julian Jack successfully graduating from the programme and returned to manage the Credit Union with its limited resources. I began teaching in October 1976 and when the discussion to form the Credit Union lead to its eventual establishment, Bro. Cecil “Pa” Jack gave me no choice but commanded that I joined, and I became one of the earliest members. My trust and faith in Pa Jack didn’t warrant me to question the pros or cons of the Credit Union. Throughout the life of the Credit Union, I remained a member, serving twice on the Board of Directors and as President of the League for five (5) years while representing the Credit Union. My most memorable time in the Credit Union was being on the floor at several General Meetings battling against my good teacher and friend Brother “Pa” Jack to get the Credit Union to extend the common bond. The Credit Union succeeded in the end to get the common bond extended and opened to all Vincentians at home and abroad, but this didn’t come easy. Through a compromise the Credit Union first extended the bond to family members of teachers and later to all Vincentians Today the Credit Union is one of the best organized and managed financial cooperatives in the region. The struggle continues – Out of Evil Cometh Good! Long live the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Cooperative Credit Union. Sis. Yvonne Francis-Gibson, First President of the SVGTCCU Ltd. The 5th annual SVGTCCU Ltd. Secondary School Bands Showcase was held on March 25th at the lawn of the Cruise ship terminal. Promotion of the 2023 showcase began in February, with outreach to schools, and a workshop for Teachers and students. During the month of March, School visits were done to each of the participating schools on March 15th and 16th. On March 7th, a media launch was held where the new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between SVGTCCU Ltd. and the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture. This MOU lasts four (4) years, and the Credit Union remains the title sponsor. This year, the showcase took on a different spin with a craft and children’s fair from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a pre-show featuring local performers from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The showcase which began at 3:00 p.m. saw twelve (12) of the country’s secondary schools performing various genres of music. Another aspect of the showcase was the performing of an original jingle on the Teachers Credit Union, this was a judged segment with the Central Leeward Secondary School emerging as the winner. The winning jingle will be recorded and used as an advertisement for the Credit Union. Speaking at the showcase, the Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the SVG Teachers Co-operative Credit Union, Mr. Gilbert Fredrick, addressed the gathering saying: "I am honored to bring greetings on behalf of the President, Sis. Miriam Roache, the Board of Directors, staff and members of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Cooperative Credit Union Limited as you embark on another school band showcase under the theme “Essence”. This theme is particularly relevant as we navigate through these challenging times, where it's important to focus on the essential things in life. The essence of a school band program lies in the benefits it offers to students - the development of musical skills, improved academic performance, social and emotional benefits, and opportunities for performance and exposure to diverse musical styles. By participating in a school band program, students have the opportunity to discover and nurture their own essence - their unique talents, strengths, and passions. This can help them to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose, which are crucial for success in all aspects of life. So, as we enjoy the performances tonight, let us keep in mind the essence of a school band program, and the invaluable impact it can have on the lives of students. Congratulations to all the performers, and let's have another successful SVGTCCU school band showcase!" SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM 5th Annual SVGTCCU Ltd. SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM MR. JULIAN C. JACK - A COMPILATION OF THOUGHTS by Bro. Ezekiel Richards NEWSLETTER 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION PAGE 14 In the midst of the transfer from the old Teachers building to the new Headquarters, I joined the Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Ltd (SVGTCCU) in 2010. A gentleman, not very tall in size, was always present in the buzz of enthusiasm, but discussions revealed that he was a giant at the Credit Union. He was deemed a pioneer since he and his contemporaries pioneered and charted the course for what we todayappreciate and cherish. Forty-five years of growing life and influence. His impact is felt all around the world. Nonetheless, I'd like to reflect on his impact through the eyes of those who worked most closely with him during his38-year tenure, from 1978 to 2016. You may applaud, laugh, or disagree. At the end of the day, Mr. Julian C. Jack is a significant contributor to theSVGTCCU's "Continuity, Stability, and Sustainability For All Vincentians" initiatives both at home and overseas. Tamara Bishop-Jones, Mr. Jack's former Administrative Secretary, was the first to reflect on her time with him. "Working with Mr. Julian Jack was a challenging experience," she recalled. “There were days when we got along well, and other days when we butted heads, especially when work deadlines approached. Mr. Jack had high expectationsand believed in multitasking. As a result, I learned to multitask, work autonomously, and learn about new areas, whether by choice or by being thrust into the role. During my tenure as Administrative Officer, I was tasked withpreparing a budget for the administrative department's operations as well as writing responses to clientmails/emails on my own." All of this is part of Mr. Jack's development strategy. Throughout his tenure, almosteveryone under his direct supervision had a stint of being the office attendant". When the staff reflects on him, thistechnique is still a regular topic of debate. "It was his idea that you needed to know or learn about all components of the company to function in all areas. Inthis regard, he shifted us to different departments, whether it was due to a shortage of workers in the department orto learn if we would be required to complete particular responsibilities. “He was a boss you could talk to if you had an issue, and he would do his utmost to help you or send you to someonewho could. His door was never closed." Tamara observed that Mr. Jack was very inquisitive, not only about your work but also about your well-being as amember of staff. When I joined the staff, I discovered this to be true. Former Accounts Clerk Elton Johnson confirmed this in his tribute to Mr. Jack in the Searchlight newspaper on April 21st, 2023. Thirty years ago, at the peak of his athletic career, Mr. Jack at the office inquired about his plans after hisfootball and cricket careers, he recalled. Elton mentioned it appeared to be an odd inquiry. However, his questionand ensuing conversation resulted in them making plans for him to pursue higher education in accounting. Heclaimed that the plan altered his life. Tamara praised how Mr. Jack encouraged you in the decision-making process by allowing you to give yourinput/suggestions on matters about the development of the organization. She went on to say: "I credit Mr. Jack'sleadership style for allowing me to be capable of functioning in any department, which also led to my assignmentas Branch Supervisor at the Barrouallie Branch". Mr. Julian C. Jack has undoubtedly influenced the lives of thisindividual, a worker, and a leader. Mr. Jack was succeeded as CEO after 38 years by Mrs. Jasmine Huggins-Daly, the previous Administration andFinance Manager. She is only the SVGTCCU's second CEO in the organization's 45-year history. The current CEO praised former CEO Julian Jack's efforts at the start of the 45th Anniversary Celebrations on April 25th, 2023. She highlighted that Mr. Jack had a direct impact on the Credit Union and its members' stability andsustainability, both at home and abroad. Mrs. Joslyn Matthias was at a loss for words when asked to recount her 26 years of involvement with and servicealongside Mr. Jack. She then discovered the following sentiments and might have 'gone on and on'. "Julian Jack, what can I say? Reflecting on my 26 years of employment under the tutelage of this remarkable son of the soil, I am overcome with mixed emotions. When I first joined the team as a temporary cashier in 1987, our firstinteraction was tense because I seemed to dispute his authority. He was extremely demanding, almost dictatorial, inmy opinion. But I was never one to pass up an opportunity to voice my viewpoint on a topic. I could have been let goat the end of my probationary time, but I was given another chance. Looking back, I'll be eternally grateful”. The adage that wisdom comes with age is very true because, over time, I went from being regarded as one of hisprimary challenges to one of his staunchest supporters. I'd turned into his shadow. He believed that no singleindividual should be allowed to perform a single task, so cross-training was implemented, with at least two peopletrained in each department. Continued on next page

SAVER SVGTCCU LTD. | WWW.TCCUSVG.COM MR. JULIAN C. JACK - A COMPILATION OF THOUGHTS - Cont'd NEWSLETTER 45TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION PAGE 15 Mr. Jack had all personnel, including management, execute that particular responsibility in rotation when there was no office attendant. We objected at first because we thought he was "playing cheap" by not filling the post, but it wasn't long before it became regular. With the same zeal, I worked my way up from 'cleaning lady' to 'acting manager'”. “He also thought that education is critical to one's growth, and while he constantly urged us to continue our education with his full support, he also led by example as he pursued his studies. Even after retiring from the credit union, he took the time to inquire about the progress of my studies and offered words of encouragement. I could go on, but one thing is certain: I would never trade those years for anything. I am a proud student, a well-rounded and marketable team member, thanks to Mr. Julian C. Jack's lessons, personal successes, and fun experiences that will last a lifetime." Ms. Nekeisha Adams, Loans Manager and Deputy CEO, reflected on his various leadership methods. She witnessed "his gradual shift in leadership style from authoritative to transformational." “In retrospect, I had problems with both. Naturally, his authoritative attitude was intimidating, and his transformative technique pushed me to discover untapped potential that I was not mentally prepared to accept. Mr. Jack is the embodiment of the expression, "Once a teacher, always a teacher." Never, ever ask him for assistance, especially in accounting or mathematics if you are not prepared for a classroom setting. He'll take up a chair and begin his lesson, which will last until he has tested you to ensure that you comprehend the idea." “This has been a recurring theme so far, and it should be noticed. Mr. Julian C. Jack was as concerned with his employees' well-being and holistic development as he was with their productivity”. "His integrity, self-confidence, and work ethic impacted positively on my life," remarked the woman. "But most admirable were his drive for success and the genuine pride he displayed when his team achieved their objectives. “When I was about to graduate from Leicester, he told me, You are going to walk the road that I walked, and I am proud of you”. Ms. Jozell J.C. Byron, the current Compliance Officer, worked as Mr. Jack's Executive Assistant during his final years as CEO. This is her assessment of him. "Mr. Jack was a knowledge powerhouse; every time you left his presence, you would have learned something new and worthwhile." “Mr. Jack was always friendly, accepting, and accommodating to everyone. He was like your free on-site therapist." We end our views with excerpts from an article authored by Mr. Elton Johnson and published in the SearchLight Newspaper on April 21st, 2023. He wanted to convey his profound gratitude for the amazing influence Mr. Jack has had on his life as a father figure and mentor. "Your mentorship has been a guiding light in my personal and professional development," he remarked of Mr. Jack. Your wisdom, expertise, and insights assisted me in developing a vision for my future, and your encouragement and support have been important in assisting me in achieving my objectives. You provided me with my first employment as an Accounting Clerk with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Cooperative Credit Union LTD (SVGTCCU). Over the next 12 years, I received valuable on-the-job training and advanced through the accounting ranks at SVGTCCU. “I will always carry the lessons and principles you have instilled in me as I progress in my personal and professional life. Your mentoring has been a driving force in my life, and I will be eternally grateful for everything you have done for me. Thank you for being a mentor, a role model, and a friend. Your influence on my life will motivate me for years to come, and I look forward to carrying on your mentorship legacy." When you got to this stage, I said we'd all agree. Mr. Julian C. Jack, CEO, has entered his name into the 'books' of the Co-operative Movement Worldwide. He was influential in the acquisition of land and other assets, as well as the purchase and construction of buildings, and he left the Credit Union in a solid financial position. However, you have only read from the pages of a few of the lives that this pioneer influenced and affected. These are the accomplishments that will outlast all others since they have the potential to carry on his legacy.
