Alhamdulillah, in the name of Allah, the most beneficent and merciful
who gave us strength and knowledge to complete this scrapbook we would like
to express our utmost gratitude to Him first as we manage to complete our first
writing task on How Pandemic Affect Sports successfully by his guidance and
blessings. All praises are to Him.
Next, we also would like to express our most gratitude to our lecturer, Madam
Khadijah Binti Mohamad Pata for all of her invaluable guidance, comments,
and suggestions throughout the whole process in the making of this scrapbook.
We are very fortunate to have her as our English lecturer. May Allah s.w.t bless
her always with His prosperity in Dunia and Akhirah.
Last but not least, this scrapbook could not be completed without every group
member’s effort and co-operation. Group member’s Ainul, Ain and Aisyah. Our
thanks and appreciation also go to everyone who is involved in the project
directly or not.

PART 1: BACKGROUND INFORMATION

According to the Cambridge dictionary, sport is a game, competition, or
activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to
rules, for enjoyment, or as a job.
It is no secret that there are many common issues in sports such as drug abuse,
racism, and gender equality. Recently, the sports industry has been shocked by
the new virus appearance in early 2019, which is COVID-19. This variant of the
pneumonia virus affected the human lungs and might lead to death if not
treated.
To safeguard the health of athletes and others involved, most major sporting
events have been cancelled or postponed. For the first time in the history of the
modern games, the Olympics and Paralympics have been postponed and held in
2021.

TO THE ISSUE

OPINIONS
We notice that pandemics leave a massive impact on sports in many

aspects. This includes professional athletes and non-athletes.

REACTION
We believe the effects of this pandemic go beyond temporary

performance. It has also sped up changes that will have long-lasting effects on
companies throughout the sporting goods value chain. Especially, in terms of
losing fans.

COMMENTARY
Everyone had a hard time surviving this pandemic. “We were affected

quite a lot. But we used the MCO period to build a three-scenario plan with a
zero-based budgeting approach to create a strong cushion for us to survive the
pandemic’s impact,” shares Vach Pillutla in his most recent interview.

COMPARISON
Before the pandemic, the athletes were actively practicing everyday but,

since COVID-19 happened, the regular training schedules of athletes were
forbidden.

CAUSE AND EFFECT
Many people are unable to participate in their regular individual, group

sporting, or physical activities outside of their homes. Everyone's co-operation
in following the Standard Operating Procedure is needed in time by time.
Not to mention the high risk on athlete health since athletes are prone to
varieties of diseases especially COVID-19. It is heart-breaking to see athletes
who suffered from COVID-19 are still recovering from it and might be,
susceptible to a range of complications that hinder their return to strenuous
activity. For example, Jackie Wong who was tested positive on 16th March
2020.
In addition, pandemics have caused many inconveniences in sports business too.
The most noticeable changes from this pandemic are how any type of
sponsoring a team, trading TV right, sports event, or, fan service cannot be
arranged.

PART 2(b): OVERCOMING THE ISSUE

RECOMMENDATIONS
Ministry of Youth and Sports must consider new limits based around

health parameters must be introduced to the movement of athletes on regular
‘tours’ or of for international events. The athletes also need to be fully
vaccinated and must ensure they are in good health before go to sporting events.

SUGGESTIONS
To overcome the issue, sport organization need to give highly

encouragement especially for everyone that involved in sports industry. It
because support is the major things everyone need through this time. Sports
organization should not push the athletes by comparing their achievement
before the pandemic. The sports organization need to give huge support for each
athlete as to grow a big motivation in themselves.
PREDICTIONS

Malaysia’s sport will rise and this enhance the opportunity for our
country to stand firm in the world.

SOLUTIONS
Until there are lights at the end of tunnel, this situation should be handled

appropriately by organizers into strictly only allows virtual audiences on paid
sites for example ESPN or Fox Sports.

Not only that, big sports brands too can invest in film making of a movie or
show series that advertise healthy lifestyles heavily during the pandemic and the
equipment needed to stay active on massive platforms such as Netflix and Viu.
“The sports streaming service has been prioritizing ways to help fans stay
connected, both to their teams and each other.
We want to help our fans be there, and this kind of helps really connect
them to the event itself, even beyond just COVID,"(Justin Hoyman,2020)

PART 3: CONCLUSION

The COVID-19 pandemic has and will continue to have very considerable
effects on the sporting world as well as on the physical and mental well-being of
people around the world. This temporary impact of Covid-19, in the case of
sport, has a greater impact, and it will require people and human resources to be
able to get back to normal as soon as possible. This impact will make Malaysia
rebound as the high quality in sport industry.
