Preface
Quick fact 2020 is prepared for Commerce
Department of Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah. This quick
fact contains the vision and mission of the polytechnic,
deparment info, program synopsis, job prospect,
programme learning outcomes and programme
structure of Secretarial Science Programme and Islamic
Finance and Banking Programme.
This small effort is aims to make students
informed about the path of their studies and can
prepare themselves for the best towards achieving the
programme learning outcomes inline with polytechnic's
vision and mission.

Commerce Department is one of
the five Academic Department in
Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah which
had been operating since January
2004.
At the beginning, this department offers 2
programmes which are Diploma in Secretarial
Science (DSK) and Certificate in Data Processing
(SMD). In 2009, no more certificate level program in
polytechnic and it been replaced by Diploma in
Islamic Finance and Banking.
Today, this department is lead by Dr. Norazwa binti
Ahmad Zolkifli @ Uda with 40 academic staff whose
have related qualifications with the programme
offered.
Both, DIB and DSK will took six semester or three
years to be complete where the students are
compulsory to pass industrial training in final
semester in order to graduate.

SYNOPSIS
This programme has been designed with invaluable skills to
prepare the students to face the challenging real work
environment. It covers various fields of knowledge and skills
such as Keyboarding Skills, Document Processing, Shorthand,
“Trengkas” , Office Administration, Office Suite Software,
Personality Development, Event Management and Business
Accounting. Secretarial Science programme equips students
with the knowledge and abilities needed to assist in several
administrative works in any organization or industry.
JOB PROSPECT
The knowledge and skills that the students acquire from the
program will enable them to participate in the job market as:
a. Secretary
b. Personal Assistant
c. Administrative Executive
d. Assistant of Event Coordinator
e. Junior Human Resource Executive

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLO)
Upon completion of the programme, students should be able
to:
PLO1: Apply good understanding of concepts in the field of secretarial
PLO2: Analyze valuable information and ideas gathered by possessing
scientific skills and utilizing different thinking skills in order to solve
problems in secretarial field
PLO3: Perform secretarial practical work skills in managing activities
PLO4: Display the ability to work in a group effectively by conveying
verbal and written information coherently as a leader or a member of a
team in managing secretarial operations
PLO5: Adopt a variety of skills in managing information including the
use of digital application and to continue seeking knowledge to improve
themselves
PLO6: Demonstrate the ability of being a responsible individual either
as a leader or a member of a team by using social skills in delivering
messages, thoughts and feelings with other human beings while
implementing secretarial programmes

DIPLOMA IN ISLAMIC FINANCE AND BANKING
SYNOPSIS
Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance is designed to
equip students with knowledge and skills in Islamic
banking and financial area, which are now among the
fastest growing segments of global financial services.
Based on the program standard of Muamalat and
Islamic Finance by Malaysia Qualification Agency, this
program comprising the element of muamalat, Islamic
finance, Islamic banking, risk management and takaful
and Islamic financial planning and wealth
management. In addition, the students are also
encompass the basic business and financial literacy
namely business mathematics, statistics, business
accounting, principles of marketing, macroeconomics,
microeconomics and entrepreneurship. The
combination of compulsory courses, common core
courses and discipline courses with selected
assessment are projected to enhance student to
achieve the five clusters of learning outcomes of
knowledge and understanding, cognitive skills,
functional work skills, personal and entrepreneurial
skills and ethics and professionalism.
