Through the collaboration, NCUI in association with UBA will conduct research and development work to identify the key challenges and corresponding solutions of farmers and cooperatives and utilize the power of technology and innovative processes for entrepreneurship development among the needy sections of society in general and the villages adopted under UBA in particular. Both organizations will devise strategies and processes for promoting natural farming, including millet production among the farmers and promote sustainable lifestyle and naturefriendly measures for conservation of ecology and identify, groom and promote suitable indigenous products, processes and traditional skills of artisans for income enhancement and potential replication. NCUI and UBA will also work together to form new cooperatives in emerging areas of economy by engaging youth and women in their network. UBA will promote cooperative identity among the students for the formation of campus and other types of cooperatives. NCUI will benefit from the technical resource of UBA to identify and promote low-cost and efficient production and processing technologies in the interest of the artisans and cooperatives. Efforts will be made to establish centres of excellence for research and demonstration of successful technological innovations in areas of rural development and organise national and regional-level workshops too. Post signing of MoU, Prof. VK Vijay, National Coordinator, UBA, explained the recent initiatives and achievements of UBA to NCUI President; and also discussed some of the key interventions being planned to be executed in collaboration with Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperation (CEDC), NCUI, in the near future. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a flagship program launched by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in 2014 with a mission to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both public and private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India. At present, UBA has a network of over 3,600 colleges and 18,000 villages across India.

THE COOPERATOR | SEPTEMBER 2023 33 RBI Urges Urban Cooperative Banks to Strengthen Governance The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has called on the directors of urban cooperative banks (UCBs) to enhance their governance practices, focusing on risk management, compliance and internal audit. The Apex Bank recently organized a directors’ conference for tier 3 and 4 urban cooperative banks of Mumbai zone. Governor Shaktikanta Das highlighted five important aspects that UCBs are required to focus on: (i) adequate expertise and skills for directors, (ii) forming professional management boards, (iii) board member diversity and tenure, (iv) transparent and participatory board discussions, and (v) effective functioning of board-level committees, RBI said. Das spoke about the importance of the involvement of bank boards in upholding rigorous credit risk management, including robust underwriting standards, effective post-sanction monitoring, timely recognition and mitigation of incipient stress, rigorous follow-up of large non-performing asset (NPA) borrowers for effective recovery, besides maintaining adequate provisioning. Source: Mint Cooperative Samvad: Now One-Stop Solution for Housing Society Complaints in Maharashtra Members of cooperative housing societies can now bid farewell to the hassle of lodging complaints at various locations to address a range of issues they encounter. The Maharashtra State Housing Federation and the Cooperative Commissionerate have unveiled a novel solution: the “Sahakar Samvad” portal. Through this platform, members can submit their household grievances, which will subsequently be resolved within specific timeframes. Furthermore, the Cooperative Commissionerate will diligently monitor the tally of received complaints across departments, as well as the corresponding resolution timelines. A key feature of the Sahakar Samvad portal is the provision of distinct logins for every registered member. Once registration is complete, a unique login is allocated, facilitating the seamless submission of complaints. The prescribed word limit for each grievance is 200 words. Upon entering their pin code and address, members’ complaints are routed to the relevant deputy registrar based on the provided pin code. Subsequently, the complaint progresses through the hierarchy, eventually reaching the pertinent department from the Deputy Registrar level. Source: PU News KAR
