e-SIM Report
Assessment of e-SIM revenue opportunities
Embedded subscriber identity modules (e-SIM)[1] will increasingly replace standard SIMs
in machine-to-machine (M2M)/the Internet of Things (IoT) (e.g. connected cars, smart
meters) and replace or co-exist with standard SIM cards in consumer devices (e.g. handsets, tablets).

At a high-level this report seeks to identify potential new revenue opportunities that market participants may target, including mobile network operators
(MNOs), mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), mobile virtual network enablers (MVNEs) and mobile virtual network aggregators (MVNAs).

The introduction of e-SIMs does far more than disrupt the SIM value chain. e-SIMs make it possible for market participants to:
· consider supporting a new breed of MVNOs, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and content providers
· manage the provisioning and support of e-SIM profiles in consumer devices and M2M/IoT connections
· develop new revenue streams by using e-SIMs to support ID management services.

The report also provides a set of recommendations that market participants may consider implementing in order to grow new revenue streams,
triggered by the introduction of e-SIMs, as well as highlight key challenges they will face.

[1] A piece of hardware embedded into a device, which is soldered into a printed circuit board (PCB). An e-SIM can store multiple MNO profiles (IMSI
number, network key and other settings) and cab be updated over-the-air (OTA) with new MNO profiles.

THIS REPORT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE 22nd FEBRUARY 2016 FREE FOR DIN MEMBERS
