Oktoberfest
Bratwurst, Steins, an Oompah Band,
what could possibly complete an
Oktoberfest theme for one of our regular
conferences? Only our team immersing
themselves in full Bavarian regalia. The
team really do go above and beyond to
make our guests happy.
National Baking Week
Our team had the chance to use our kitchen for a bake off style
competition. Helena (Head Housekeeper) was victorious with her
fantastic orange cake and crowned SPP’s master baker!
Bubble Recognition
Our spa was pleased to retain our 5 Bubble Award this
year. To top off a fantastic year we also won the
prestigious Best Spa in the Channel Islands at the Good
Spa Guide Awards for the 2nd year in a row! Well done
team.
The Dragon’s Den
Team Members were invited to pitch an idea to our panel of dragons. It was a hard fought battle
with some fantastic pitches. Presentations included speeches, videos, demos as well as
PowerPoint presentations. Our dragons Mark, Shaun, Steve along with HPH Commercial Director
Ken Arkley certainly put the candidates through their paces and with £500 to award to the
winning idea to help implement the idea, who can blame them. Who won? Find out at the Staff
Lunch on 20th December.

Vision & Values – chocks away!!
What a week! To launch the new Vision and Values all our
employees were invited to travel with SPP Intercontinental to
discover and visit all continents (values). The week of activities
started with a pre-flight briefing (vision video) by our Pilot and Co-
Pilot, Mark and Shaun. All travellers were issued with a passport
and a boarding pass to begin their journey.
During the three day journey, there were laughs a plenty, as the
team embraced the immersive learning being offered to them and
had fun along the way.
There were team building activities, competitions, quizzes,
presentations, exhibitions, interactive displays and the introduction
of the new staff menu.
Once a passport was filled with stamps from each continent and a passport
picture added - these were then surrendered at the customs office for
inspection! Results at the upcoming Staff Lunch! Plenty of activities over the
next few weeks confirming what we learnt.

Vision and Values Launch
What great sessions we had during week commencing 4th
December to celebrate the launch of our new Vision and
Values. With a movie theme the team enjoyed popcorn as
they entered the Denby suite to watch the video.
The guiding team also arranged for a different local
supplier to present at each session. Our local honey
supplier paid us a visit and shared some fascinating facts
about bees, and honey.
Not only were the team able to enjoy some taster sessions
to help us understand the vast difference between the likes
of the milder ‘soft set’ yorkshire honey and the
flavoursome ’natural heath blend’ - but at the end of the
session we were even able to take some of this delicious
honey home!
Sadly, we didn’t get to take home any Black Sheep
after their presentation (!!!), however everybody
who attended did get to take home some special
Hand Picked water bottles and, with thanks to Liz
Whitehead for a great bit of creativity, the team also
enjoyed some ‘Extra’ gum as a reminder about what
makes us ‘Extra ordinary’ and also to wish
everybody an ‘Extra good Year’!

Our Final Focus of the week was on Local Engagement
We held a Workshop Activity Room including visits from our local suppliers to explain their
products. In true Jamie Oliver style, Matt Brookes talked to us about Farm, its history and food
– it was hugely informative and interesting for everyone. Thank you Matt!
Our local Hoggs Back Brewery also visited us on Friday and gave information about
the Beers and ciders they offer.
The beer and cider tasting was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we had an opportunity ask questions and
learn something more about a local product we sell.
Contractors are now on site working on our new Staff Restaurant. Everyone is looking forward to
our fabulous new restaurant and staff facilities!
