REDEEMED INSPIRED BLESSED A MusiclPlay 10th December 2023

RIB (Redeemed, Inspired, Blessed) women of the Bible “And the RIB that the Lord God had taken from the man He made into a woman.” (Gen. 22, 2a - NRSVCE) FR. LENY ESCALADA FILIPINO COMMUNITY SERVANT PRIESTWithin the sacred pages of the Bible, the stories of women stand as timeless beacons of strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. By the courage, compassion, wisdom, perseverance and obedience of these women, their journey echoes with a powerful message of being Redeemed, Inspired and Blessed. In their diverse roles as leaders, mothers, warriors, and disciples, these women exemplify the extraordinary impact that one individual can have on the course of biblical history. They faced adversity with grace, embraced challenges with unwavering faith, and transformed trials into triumphs. Their narratives are a testament to the profound strength that emanates from the hearts of women. May the women of the Bible serve as a source of inspiration, reminding us that regardless of the circumstances, our spirits can rise above challenges. Just as they found courage in times of uncertainty, may we draw strength from their stories and embrace our own journeys with resilience, faith, and the unwavering belief that, like them, we too can make a lasting impact on the world. Let the tales of these extraordinary RIB women motivate us to cultivate the virtues of love, compassion, and perseverance in our own lives. As we navigate the complexities of our journeys, may we channel the spirit of these biblical heroines and, in doing so, create a legacy of courage, grace, and enduring faith for generations to come. Like a rib, women are meant to protect the vital organs of men especially his heart. Women and men support each other for they are God’s beloved. A woman was taken from a man’s rib, not to be looked down upon but to be loved for women are redeemed, inspired, and blessed human beings that were created coequally with men. Let RIB, women in the bible musical play, be a reminder for all of us on how God shows his love and mercy from ancient times to present, from the beginning to the end, through laughter and tears, each song and dance, and through the stories of every woman presented here. May we learn by reflecting through these women’s life experiences. And through such experiences, we grow in our faith. It's been a wonderful experience preparing for this musical. Sending my love and thanks to everyone involved in this musical play. Thank you to all of you who chose to embark on this journey with RIB, women in the bible. MA. NINA VILLANUEVA MAMA MARY Mary was a first-century Judean woman of Nazareth, the wife of Joseph and the mother of Jesus. She is a central figure of Christianity, venerated under various titles such as virgin or queen, many of them mentioned in the Litany of Loreto. The Eastern and Oriental Orthodox, Church of the East, Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran churches believe that Mary, as mother of Jesus, is the Mother of God. Other Protestant views on Mary vary, with some holding her to have considerably lesser status. The New Testament describes Mary as a young virgin[d] who was chosen by God to conceive Jesus through the Holy Spirit. After giving birth to Jesus in Bethlehem, she raised him in the city of Nazareth in Galilee, and was in Jerusalem at his crucifixion and with the apostles after his ascension. Although her later life is not accounted in the Bible, Catholic and Eastern Christian traditions believe that her body was raised into heaven at the end of her earthly life, which is known in Western Christianity as the Assumption of Mary and in Eastern Christianity as the Dormition of the Mother of God.

ELIZA MARAYAN SALOME Salome was a Jewish princess, the daughter of Herod II, who was the son of Herod the Great, with princess Herodias. She was granddaughter of Herod the Great, and stepdaughter of Herod Antipas. She is known from the New Testament, where she is not named, and from an account by Flavius Josephus. In the New Testament, the stepdaughter of Herod Antipas demands and receives the head of John the Baptist. According to Josephus, she was first married to her uncle Philip the Tetrarch, after whose death (AD 34) she married her cousin Aristobulus of Chalcis, thus becoming queen of Armenia Minor. The gospel story of her dance at the birthday celebration of her stepfather, who had John the Baptist beheaded at her mother's request, inspired art, literature and music over an extended period of time.

ROWENA REYES DELILAH Delilah is a woman mentioned in the sixteenth chapter of the Book of Judges in the Hebrew Bible.[2] She is loved by Samson, [2] a Nazirite who possesses great strength[3] and serves as the final Judge of Israel.[4] Delilah is bribed by the lords of the Philistines to discover the source of his strength. After three failed attempts at doing so, she finally goads Samson into telling her that his vigor is derived from his hair. As he sleeps, Delilah orders a servant to cut Samson's hair, thereby enabling her to turn him over to the Philistines.

ELIZA GARCILLA HANNAH In the biblical narrative, Hannah is one of two wives of Elkanah. The other, Peninnah, had given birth to Elkanah's children, but Hannah remained childless. Nevertheless, Elkanah preferred Hannah. According to Lillian Klein, the use of this chiasmus underscores the standing of the women: Hannah is the primary wife, yet Peninnah has succeeded in bearing children. Hannah's status as primary wife and her barrenness recall Sarah and Rebecca in Genesis 17 and Genesis 25 respectively. Klein suggests that Elkanah took Peninnah as a second wife because of Hannah's barrenness.[2]

JOY VILLANUEVA HEMORRHAGIC WOMAN The woman with the hemorrhage in the Bible is a woman who had been suffering from severe bleeding for 12 years and was considered unclean by Jewish Law123. She was healed by Jesus when she touched his cloak in faith124. Jesus felt the power go out of him and asked who touched him. The woman confessed and Jesus praised her faith and told her to go in peace24. This miracle is recorded in the synoptic gospels and is combined with the raising of Jairus's daughter4.

MABEL ANDRES JEZEBEL Jezebel is the Anglicized transliteration of the Hebrew איזבל ʾIzeḇel. The Oxford Guide to People & Places of the Bible states that the name is "best understood as meaning 'Where is the Lord?'" (Hebrew: זהֶאיֵ עלַב ,ַּromanized: ʾēze baʿal), a ritual cry from worship ceremonies in honor of Baal during periods of the year when the god was considered to be in the underworld.[10] Alternatively, a feminine Punic name noted by the Corpus Inscriptionum Semiticarum, Phoenician: , romanized: bʿlʾzbl,[11] may have been a cognate to the original form of the name, as the Israelites were known to often alter personal names which invoked the names of foreign gods (cf. instances for Baal, Mephibosheth and Ishbosheth).

DOROTHY VIACRUSES DEBORAH According to the Book of Judges, (Dəḇōrāְּ, דבֹוָרה :Hebrew (Deborah was a prophetess of the God of the Israelites, the fourth Judge of pre-monarchic Israel and the only female judge mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. Many scholars contend that the phrase, "a woman of Lappidot", as translated from biblical Hebrew in Judges 4:4 denotes her marital status as the wife of Lapidoth.[1] Alternatively, "lappid"[1] translates as "torch" or "lightning", therefore the phrase, "woman of Lappidot" could be referencing Deborah as a "fiery woman."[2]

JHING GOROSPE SERPANT The serpent in the Bible was an actual serpent in the Garden of Eden1. It is described as one of the wild animals that God had made1. Satan entered into the body of the serpent to tempt Adam and Eve, so Satan himself is the personage behind the serpent1. Serpents are also referred to in both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, and played important roles in religious and cultural life of ancient Egypt, Canaan, Mesopotamia and Greece2.

MIGUEL DOMINGO JESUS Jesus of Nazareth, and many other names and titles, was a first-century Jewish preacher and religious leader.[10] He is the central figure of Christianity, the world's largest religion. Most Christians believe Jesus to be the incarnation of God the Son and the awaited Jewish messiah, the Christ that is prophesied in the Hebrew Bible. Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically.[f] Accounts of Jesus' life are contained in the Gospels, especially the four canonical Gospels in the New Testament. Academic research has yielded various views on the historical reliability of the Gospels and how closely they reflect the historical Jesus.[18][g][21] [22] Jesus was a Galilean Jew who was circumcised, was baptized by John the Baptist, began his own ministry, and was often referred to as "rabbi".[23] Jesus often debated with fellow Jews on how to best follow God, engaged in healings, taught in parables, and gathered followers. He was arrested in Jerusalem and tried by the Jewish authorities,[24] turned over to the Roman government, and crucified on the order of Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect of Judea. After his death, his followers believed he rose from the dead, and the community they formed eventually became the early Christian Church.[25] Accounts of his teachings and life were initially conserved by oral transmission, which was the source of the written Gospels.

MERCEDEZ CALDERON HERODIAS Herodias was proud, manipulative, and arrogant. She used her daughter to get revenge on John the Baptist. She had two husbands (1) Herod Philip and (2) Herod Antipas, who were her uncles and sons of Herod the Great. Herod the Great was her grand father and father-in-law. Having married Herod Philip, her own uncle, by whom she had a daughter, Salome, Herodias longed for social distinction, and accordingly left her husband and entered into an adulterous union with Herod Antipas, Tetrarch of Galilee, who was also her uncle. St. John the Baptist rebuked Antipas for this union and thus aroused the hatred of Herodias, who by the dance of her daughter brought about the death of the prophet (Matt., xiv, 3-12; Mark, vi, 17-29).
