STATE FLAG - AN ETERNAL SYMBOL
DEFINING STATE'S UNIQUE IDENTITY!
Each state flag in the USA is a symbol or emblem of the respective State. All
of them are rectangular except one with a pennant shaped for the Ohio
state. Most people recognize the flag of the USA, representing the country.
Thirteen stripes on the flag depict the original 13 colonies, and 50 white stars
on the blue backdrop at the corner represent the 50 states of the country.
Like any other country's flag, the colors and symbols in the American flag
symbolize different things. The same goes for all state flags, USA, every
state flag represents the State, and the states use them to highlight their
unique trait distinguishing them from other states. Following is a brief
description of flags of some states in the USA and associated exciting facts.
New York State Flag - New York state is known as the empire state of the
USA. Its flag has a dark blue background and an image of the central coat
of arms, featuring a sun, two supporters, and the 'Excelsior' on a ribbon. The
left supporter represents freedom by showing his feet on the English crown,
while the right symbolizes justice with a sword to fight tyranny. The scene
underneath the sun gives a view of the Hudson River with the ships. The
State adopted the first version of the coat of arms on the flag in 1778, while
it formally adopted the flag in 1896.
New Mexico State Flag: The state flags
of New Mexico have a golden yellow
background and the ancient red Zia sun
symbol with four directions. Four-number
symbolizes the circle of life - four
directions, four seasons, four life stages,
and four parts of the day.
Pennsylvania State Flag: It has a blue
flag with a coat of arms in the middle. It
adopted this flag officially in 1907. The
coat of arms is between two horses and
an eagle on top. The ships in the middle
represent the State's active commerce,
and a plow symbolizes natural resources.
Kansas State Flag: Known as the
Sunflower State, Kansas adopted a state
flag with blue background with a state
seal and sunflower in 1927. The seal of
Kansas has a landscape with a rising sun
and boats representing commerce, a
man plowing a field indicating
agriculture, a wagon train symbolizing
development, a cluster of 34 stars
representing recognition of Kansas as the
34th State and state motto.
