FRIENDS OF THE DOUDNA As we celebrate our 15-year season, it is important to recognize those that continue to support our efforts to replace our aging equipment and production gear. The Friends of the Doudna is a program that provides the resources to support all the amazing touring artists and student productions that we do each year. Our friends continue to support an ever-growing need as technology changes and old equipment becomes obsolete. Thank you to all our friends and all those who will consider becoming a friend in the future. 2023-2024 Season 1 It is hard to believe that the Doudna Fine Arts Center is already 15! It seems like just yesterday we had our rededication and grand re-opening. During the last 14 years our amazing venues have hosted some spectacular premier artists, both professionally and academically. In planning our 15-year anniversary season we wanted to have a season that showcases all the amazing types of performances that we have not only brought into the center, but also the amazing talent of our performing arts departments. With that in mind, the upcoming season is reminiscent of our past but not repetitive. It will spotlight all the different types of performing arts we have had here while still providing you with a new and fresh experience. It will include multiple co-produced productions with our departments and a wide variety of guest artists. We cannot wait to see you at the Doudna this celebratory season and for many seasons to come! Dennis Malak Director of Programming, Publicity, & Promotions, Doudna Fine Arts Center

Who Speaks for the Oceans? Ant Farm, Ursula Biemann, Else Bostelmann, Myrlande Constant, Jacques Cousteau and Louis Malle, Pia Dehne, Miho Hatori, Amber Hawk Swanson, Will E. Jackson, Joan Jonas, Jenny Kendler and Andrew Bearnot, Dominique Knowles, Chris Marker and Mario Ruspoli, and Roger Payne. On view September 22, 2023–January 27, 2024 The exhibition proposes new and challenging ways to shift our understandings of and relationships to whales and other nonhuman animals. Through interdisciplinary artworks in video, installation, painting, tapestry, music, performance, and more, Who Speaks for the Oceans? analyzes epistemological and historical knowledge built around what we think we know about life in the ocean through the charismatic “whale song.” As we approach a crucial moment concerning the condition of our planet, listening to whale vocalizations and other marine creatures can bring us closer to understanding their needs and encouraging action towards healthier stewardship of the oceans. Who Speaks for the Oceans?, at the Tarble Arts Center is curated by Alaina Claire Feldman, Director and Curator of Miskin Gallery, Baruch College; David Gruber, Distinguished Professor of Biology and Environmental Sciences, Baruch College; and Jennifer Seas, Director and Chief Curator of the Tarble Arts Center, Eastern Illinois University. WATERSHED Studio Land Arts On view September 22, 2023–March 15, 2024 WATERSHED is a work of land art that proposes to repurpose approximately 8000 square feet of pedestrian walk on the Tarble’s grounds that has become degraded over the past forty years by the growth of intricate bald cypress root systems. The proposal would see these hardscapes demolished and processed into new concrete for a reimagined configuration. Reflecting the original design of the museum’s architecture in playful ways, this artwork will create more area for the Tarble’s cypress trees to flourish while supporting native plants and pollinators, as well as create a platform for people to visit, rest, read, play, exercise, and participate in future Tarble programs. While this large-scale project continues to develop, the Tarble has installed a nineteen-by-fourfoot model of the proposed artwork in our galleries to help visitors imagine the new landscape it will introduce. Young visitors and their caretakers are invited to play gently with the model in this gallery along with special edition toys and books by the Italian modernist designer Enzo Mari. 44 Doudna Fine Arts Center Friends of The Doudna After Old Main, the Doudna Fine Arts Center is the most iconic building on the EIU campus. Home to the School of the Arts (the departments of Art + Design, Music, and Theatre) and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, the building you see today is the result of a massive expansion and renovation of the old arts building by renowned architect Antoine Predock in 2008. From the soaring sights of the Concourse, to the many performance venues, and to being the home to the many faculty and students of the School of the Arts, the Doudna is a lively space at all times, but no more than when we can feature performances that range from student recitals to world-class established artists, and collaboration with the Tarble Arts Center to bring the visual arts to life. We welcome your participation in the continued excellence of this fine institution! Your annual support will sustain the many performance spaces, the sometimes mysterious backstage, and the always awe-inspiring costume shop. Your contribution will additionally serve the infrastructure needs of our performing arts faculty, staff, and students. We have six levels of support from which you may select; each level brings its own rewards, and be assured that we welcome and cherish any level of support! Benefits begin at $25 and increase by contribution level.

COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES All patrons will be required to adhere to all COVID-19 safety guidelines set forth by the University at the time of the production. All productions are dependent on our ability to remain open to the public. Please feel free to call ahead of time to determine what safety guidelines need to be followed. The safety of all our patrons, performers, and staff is our top priority here at the Doudna Fine Arts Center. WHAT IF I AM LATE TO A PERFORMANCE? Every effort is made to start performances on time unless there is an unavoidable delay. Latecomers are asked to wait for the assistance of an usher. Seating will occur at a suitable break in the performance in order to cause as little disruption as possible. For theatre events in the Black Box, there is a “no late seating” policy due to the venue’s intimate environment. Late arrivals will not be permitted to stand in the back and will only be seated at intermission. DO YOU OFFER GIFT CERTIFICATES? Gift certificates are available online or at the Doudna Box Office. The certificates can be used for any performance during the 2023-24 season. WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY? All sales are final. No refunds will be issued unless the event is canceled. If you are unable to attend a show, consider giving your ticket to a friend, or return it to the box office and it will be offered to a student free of charge. STUDENT RUSH TICKETS On the day of the performance 10% of the seats will be free to EIU students! Just show your Panther Card at the Box Office. Only one per student and only while available. WHAT ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY? • All venues are wheelchair accessible. • Service animals are welcome. When ordering, please request an aisle seat and let the box office know a service animal will be with you. • Wireless headsets are available upon request. • Sign language interpretation is available with sufficient advance notice and the availability of qualified service providers. Please request this service at least one month prior to the performance. HOW MUCH IS PARKING? Parking is free after 5 p.m. and on weekends. CAN I RECORD A PERFORMANCE? The use of video and sound recording devices is always prohibited. Please silence all electronic devices before a performance. ARE CHILDREN WELCOME? Absolutely! The Doudna Fine Arts Center believes children should be exposed to the cultural arts, but some performances are not suitable for young children. Please understand we wish to provide the best environment for all our patrons. WHEN CAN I GET INTO THE VENUE? Doors typically open 30 minutes before the show time.
