Chief Librarian’s Message

It is with great pleasure that I present the Dar Al-Hikmah Library’s 2016 annual report. This report
highlights the profound and innovative ways that the Library has added value to support the
University and the Library to accomplish its vision and mission.

It has been an exciting and busy year and the Library continues to be well utilized by the IIUM
community. New services and resources have been introduced and the collection has grown
considerably as we progress toward our goal to support teaching and learning activities of the
university.

During this year, we have launched the iHikmah, the knowledge management portal. The portal
will become an enabling tool in the establishment of knowledge sharing in IIUM. Another notable
activity completed this year was the extension of the ISO 9001:2008 practice at all campuses.

Other development of a values statement for the Library which is appended to this report. Many
staff participated in the development of this important document which takes it rightful place
alongside our mission and vision. In closing I would like to thank the IIUM community for their
support of the Library. In particular I would like to acknowledge the staff of all Libraries for their
ongoing commitment to the delivery of high quality services

MEGATREND WORKSHOP

By : FROST SULLIVANS

Megatrends Workshop was held on 11th May 2016 at Banquet
Hall, Rectory Building, IIUM. This workshop is the collaboration
between IIUM Library and Frost & Sullivan Partnership Services
(GPS). The university has subscribed to Frost & Sullivan Growth
Partnership Services (GPS) since November 2015. As part of
the subscription, the Frost & Sullivan Consultants need to deliver
2 speaking engagements with industry insights to share their
experience & knowledge. This workshop is one of the speaking
engagements.

The world is rapidly changing in the era of
globalization and proliferation of technological
advancement. The higher education sector as creator in
delivering useful knowledge and solutions, like other
industries, continues to be faced with pressures and
changes. The industry is driven by a number of drivers
of change where some of them are disruptive that
demand organizational transformation if success is to
be sustained in the long run. Therefore, the workshop
content is to interpret the six most prevalent Mega
Trends strength, with regards to universities, and spur
the Management Team to explore new ways, ideas and
thoughts for IIUM to navigate the ever changing
landscape of Education globally, and locally in
Malaysia.

Hence, IIUM need to embrace the changes, and identify how IIUM could utilise the Mega Trends to be the
preferred institution in developing the minds of the future generation.
