Dominica’s 2019 stayover arrival performance
Elizabeth Angol, Marketing Executive, DDA
Preliminary data suggests that Dominica has recorded approximately 89,708 stayover arrivals for the year 2019,
its best performance on record.
This performance surpassed 2016 (pre-maria) arrivals by 14%; and reflects a 43% and 24% increase over 2018 and
2017, respectively.

October (10,879) recorded the highest number of arrivals followed by March (9,738). These performances were
fuelled by arrivals for the World Creole Music Festival and Mas Domnik, respectively. October’s performance
was second only to Dominica’s 30th Independence celebrations in 2008 (12,126) while March 2019 surpassed all
previous years.
Air arrivals (50,275) accounted for 56% of entries into Dominica. Arrivals into Douglas Charles Airport (49,366)
represents 98% of air entries. There has been a significant increase in sea arrivals (39,433) which shows an
average increase of 37% over the past three (3) years.
Our performance is attributed to a solid marketing strategy which included various niche products and access
initiatives as well as a strong social media presence. This was backed up by close collaboration with internal and
external stakeholders.
We hope to continue the momentum into 2020 as we aim to better 2019’s performance.
