CLUB SERVICE Avenue

Chronicle Edition 2 14 At Club Service Avenue, we strongly believe in the importance of service and community engagement. As part of our ongoing commitment, we are thrilled to share that we have recently hosted two successful monthly avenue meetings in October and November. Both meetings held physically, witnessed a remarkable increase in participation compared to previous months, reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of our members. The November meeting was a significant event as it marked the announcement of the Team Leaders pf our club for the RI year 2023-24. This announcement gave us a glimpse into the promising future of our club and set the stage for a year filled with innovation and growth. Furthermore, the avenue meetings held in October and December showcased the dedication and effort put into organizing these gatherings. These meetings served as an important platform for team members to engage in productive discussions and collaborate on strategic planning. "Peaසා னம்," a joint initiative between our organization and the district, is an ongoing project that holds significant importance. We recently completed the first phase of this project titled "Diwali," which was carried out successfully in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Kandy on November 12th. The event took place at the University of Peradeniya, despite the distance from Colombo, and received a tremendous response with over 100 enthusiastic participants including members from other clubs and the District Steering Committee. The success of the Diwali celebration can be credited to the exceptional coordination and efforts of our dedicated Organizing Committee members. The event truly captured the essence of the festival with the lighting of lamps and an enchanting fireworks display, creating a mesmerizing ambiance. To further enhance the festivities, a variety of traditional food, including the popular laddu, was provided, adding a delightful touch to the overall experience.

Chronicle Edition 2 15 Simultaneously, we were thrilled about our project, "Christinzel'23 with Reunion." This initiative was developed to unite both current and past club members through a special event on the 30th December 2023. The primary objective of this gathering was to celebrate Christmas together, fostering inclusivity and camaraderie amongst all undergraduates. The objective was to offer a glimpse into the Rotaract experience and showcase the positive impact we have on our community. Furthermore, we gathered funds through the sale of "Achcharu,". Apart from the enchanting visuals and taste of Diwali, the event also included storytelling sessions and an energetic DJ, creating an atmosphere of joy and merriment. These additional elements contributed to a vibrant and engaging experience for all participants, truly showcasing the cultural richness and diversity of the Diwali festival. The success of the Diwali phase of the "Peaසා னம்" initiative not only brought joy and cultural celebration to the participants but also highlighted the ability of our club to effectively organize and execute such events. We successfully concluded the project Christinzel at the Sumitra Reception Hall, Kadawatha with the participation of some members of the District Steering Committee including the District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP Sathma Jayasinghe and past & current Rotaractors of RACUOK. Everyone enjoyed the night with fun games and Christmas carols, where the memories were unforgettable.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Avenue

Chronicle Edition 2 18 Over the past three months, our dedication to the "ස්වභා සමුද්‍ර” project remained unwavering. We successfully completed three phases, positively impacting the community and the environment. In the second phase of ස්වභා සමුද්‍ර - Tree plantation project, we did not simply plant seeds but also nurtured the seeds of the future. We took this initiative to establish environmental societies in five schools in and around Kelaniya, aiming to empower young minds to care for our environment. We divided ourselves into three teams and collectively planted around 100 tree saplings in these 5 schools. We also organised a nature-themed art competition to encourage students to showcase their creativity and passion for the environment. With the support of our dedicated Organizing Committee members, we were able to successfully complete the phase, leaving a lasting and positive impact on the environment.

Chronicle Edition 2 19 Writer Rtr. Janooshikaa Kanapathy Later, in our November Avenue Meetup, which was held physically, we came together to talk about our accomplishments, ongoing projects, and the exciting projects we have lined up for the future. It was a great opportunity to share ideas, experiences, and plans, creating a strong sense of connection among us. Following that, we also had our "ස්වභා සමුද්‍ර” physical Organizing Committee meetup, which was indeed productive and engaging since we were able to discuss a lot and share ideas and suggestions for our project. Embarking on our avenue’s next most significant project, we decided on a developmental plan for Thammanawa and Kokmaduwa, which are remote villages in Giribawa, Kurunegala. This is a comprehensive project which covers the development of 6 main sectors, including education, healthcare, clean water, economic development, agriculture, and youth and women empowerment. The ultimate goal of this project is to transform the village into a self-sustaining community. A Research Organizing Committee was appointed to start off the project, forming the first-ever research team in the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. With a diligent field visit on the 29th of November, the teams conducted thorough background research about the village and compiled comprehensive reports addressing identified issues, solutions, and budgets for each sector. This marks a significant step toward the sustainable development of the chosen villages. In the upcoming months, we believe we can complete the remaining phases of "ස්වභා සමුද්‍ර”, creating a lasting impact on our community. Furthermore, as a special Christmas initiative, our avenue organized a day filled with fun for the children at the Weerasekara Children’s Home in Gampaha. It was named as Jingle Bells, and we organized a donation program there with fun games and a beautiful musical evening.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE Avenue

Chronicle Edition 2 21 In the first quarter of the RI Year 2023-24, the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya successfully executed several projects between the months of July and September, with the overarching goal of advancing both international service initiatives and fostering international understanding. The project “Culinary Kindness x Happy Meal” was executed in the month of October and its first phase consisted of a cook-Off challenge between the two clubs. The project was executed with a delightful twirl which was a recipe exchange that signified an exchange of cultures between the two twin clubs. The Rotaractors of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya dived into the world of Pav Bhaji, an Indian street food dish, while the Rotaractors of the Rotaract Club of Thane East explored Sri Lankan cuisine through Milk Rice, a traditional Sri Lankan dish. The culinary experiment not only intrigued taste buds but also served as a flavorful spark for bonding. During the second quarter of the Rotaract year 2023-24, the International Service Avenue executed several outstanding and impactful projects. The avenue commenced the planning of the execution of 4 different projects namely, Culinary Kindness x Happy Meal, Merge, Merry Zoommas, and Dhaara 2.0 and successfully executed 3 out of the aforementioned projects by the end of the second quarter. Furthermore, the International Service Avenue worked towards establishing a Twin Club Agreement with the Rotaract Club of Thane East.

Chronicle Edition 2 22 The Cook-off challenge was then followed by the second phase of the project which was a Food Donation that both clubs executed in their own respective communities on the same day. The Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya executed the food donation at the sacred Kelaniya Temple premises while the Rotaract Club of Thane East executed the food donation in the city of Thane, Mumbai. As members from both clubs joined hands to share food packets, the spirit of giving echoed through the air. The project was thus successfully concluded on the 22nd of October 2023 with the Food Donation. This collaborative effort displayed through the Cook-Off Challenge and the Food Donation of the Culinary Kindness x Happy Meal project marked a tremendous success, showcasing the power of unity and kindness within the Rotaract community. In the first week of November, the International Service Avenue accomplished the completion of the groundbreaking project "Merge’23", an initiative unlike any other that has been so far executed by an International Service Avenue and was being planned since the previous term. It was a hybrid conference designed with the primary objective of unifying Sri Lankan Rotaract Clubs together with many International Rotaract Clubs so as to accomplish both International Understanding and International Service On the 4th of November, the Hybrid Conference was executed as Sri Lankan Rotaract Clubs joined in to the event physically, held at the University of Kelaniya premises, while International Clubs together with a Sri Lankan Club joined to the event virtually through Zoom. Through Merge, the participating clubs engaged in a mega-letterhead exchange, built fellowship, while also showcasing the splendor of their club to the Rotaract Community worldwide.

Chronicle Edition 2 23 Rtr. Thanuj Abeyrathne Rtr. Lihini Ranasinghe The month of December was also significant during the second quarter of the Rotaract Year for the International Service Avenue as it marked the commencement and execution of the Christmas project while also working towards fulfilling Twin Club Criteria. On the 10th of December, the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya held a Joint Meeting with the Rotaract Club of Thane East virtually through Zoom. Both clubs engaged with one another and proceeded to build a fellowship and to learn about their fellow club, further strengthening the twin bond between the two Rotaract Communities. Apart from that, the avenue executed the project Merry Zoommas on the 27th of December 2023. Rtr. Sevni Jayasinghe Co-Writer Co-Writer Co-Writer

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Avenue

Chronicle Edition 2 25 On October 29th, we held an Organizing Committee meetup to discuss and allocate tasks within the organizing committee members. We consistently executed minor fundraising projects, including pickle stalls, murukku stalls, and the sale of bookmarks throughout the quarter to generate funds for the project. We also reached out to various companies regarding partnering up and sponsoring the project. In the second quarter, the Professional Development Avenue, appointed the Organizing Committee of Project Abhiman which is a signature initiative designed to celebrate excellence in the media industry in Sri Lanka, where we also conducted various activities related to the project. On October 9th, we successfully concluded the fundraising project, 'Sanduda Watene Sikuradata.' Directed by Chalaka Ranasooriya and produced by Dilupa Niroshini, the drama featured a talented cast including Kusal Maduranga, Sulochana Weerasinghe, Sarath Karunaratne, and Silidu Ranwala. The humorous production was staged at Sri Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya, with showed at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. An enthusiastic audience of over 450 people participated in watching the drama, contributing to its overall success. We finalized certain aspects of project Abhiman, including the award categories and a series of promotional materials were shared including the logo reveal and broad award categories.

Chronicle Edition 2 26 Additionally, we conducted our Avenue meeting via Zoom for the month of December on the 10th December at 7:00 pm. During this session, we engaged in discussions about the future plans and initiatives of the Avenue, encouraging ideas among the members. In conclusion, the second quarter of the Professional Development Avenue was filled with successful fundraising activities, and collaborative efforts with the Department of Census and Statistics for the research process. Looking ahead we are really excited for the upcoming journey of the Professional Development Avenue. The initial steps to conduct the research were taken with the collaboration of the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Kelaniya and the Department of Census and Statistics of Sri Lanka in order to ensure a fair evaluation and transparency of the award ceremony Writer Rtr. Maryam Mahas

SPORTS & RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES Avenue

With the end of the semifinals, we had physical and online meetups to plan our final phase. Creating an advertisement letter, we started collecting funds from small businesses and continued our fundraising activities with bookmarks, raffle tickets, and a movie night on the 16th of November at the University premises. Even with many hardships, our organizing committee is determined to finish off the Finals of Spotlight 2.0 successfully. Chronicle Edition 2 28 With the start of the 2nd quarter of our Rotaract year, we, as the Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue, have ventured into launching fresh projects, creating new bonds, with a new family, and are determined to carry the legacy and responsibilities of the avenue forward. As a kick start, upon completing the first two phases of Project Spotlight 2.0, we planned for the 3rd phase after gathering the necessary funds through various fundraising activities, such as the famous mojito stall from the ‘Holi Hai with Fun Fest’ organized by the Finance Avenue. The members of the Organizing Committee successfully completed the Semifinals of Spotlight 2.0 on the 16th of October, with the presence of Mr. Kavindu Andarage, Mr. Hirunika Rajapaksha, and Ms. Ashali Weerasena as the honorable judge panel. On November 1st, we opened the OC application for the musical show, Rotrallia. Rotrallia is an award-winning musical concert that was first launched with the appearance of the famous Sri Lankan music band, Wayo. As it was a tremendous success, reaching the RACUOK name even higher in the district, we have planned to continue the project further, with fresh faces leading the project. After a thorough interview process, we selected enthusiastic Rotaractors to experience the exciting journey with Rotralia. Furthermore, in the month of November, our club announced the Team Leaders for each avenue. We conducted an online avenue meeting for the month of December to announce the new Team Leaders of our avenue and to officially introduce the Rotrallia Organizing committee.

Chronicle Edition 2 29 Undertaking a mission to infuse something new into our community, we set our sights on introducing something extraordinary. Hence ‘Battle Ground,’ a handball tournament, in collaboration with the Old Anandians Handball Association was introduced. This collaborative effort aims to create a dynamic platform where handball enthusiasts under the age of 28 from all universities and the broader Rotaractors and Non-Rotaractors can showcase their skills and passion for the sport. We aim to redefine the sporting landscape and provide everyone with a unique experience, leaving behind cherished memories for a lifetime. With our enthusiastic sportsmen and women leading the way, we eagerly embarked on a three-day adventure at the Rotaract Champions League. The dedication and skills of the members were evident as they not only participated actively but also secured notable victories across various competitions. The RCL became a stage for athletes to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to excellence. Co-Writer Rtr. Nethara Silva Co-Writer Rtr. Hashini Bandara

EDITORIAL Avenue

Chronicle Edition 2 31 In the second quarter, the editorial team embarked on the innovative public relations initiative, Click 2.0, a short film competition centered around the crucial theme of mental wellness. The organizing committee selection took place on the 7th of October, 2023, following a rigorous interview process that involved all members of the Editorial Avenue, each selected based on individual capabilities. The inaugural organizing committee meeting occurred on the 17th of October, 2023. Click 2.0 unfolded in two phases. With a cinematography session by Mr. Darshana Sampath Somarathne, a Senior Lecturer at the Mass Communication Department of the University of Kelaniya, marked the first phase on 13th of November, 2023. The short film submission deadline was set for 15th of January, 2024. The second and final phase entails an award ceremony, planned for the third quarter, where the best short film and the most popular short film will be selected under the guidance of a judge panel and through YouTube views respectively. In addition to project initiatives, new Team Leaders of the Editorial Avenue were introduced. Hence, an avenue meeting was held on December 18, 2023, to facilitate the introduction of Rtr. Amali Nilaksha, Rtr. Delishia Fabian and Rtr. Safaa Amir as Team Leaders

For the festive season, a Christmasthemed segment, “Jingle Jots,” opened to all Rotaractors and featured articles from around Rotary District 3220. The heart of the avenue, the blog, surpassed 800+ articles during the quarter, showcasing trending topics and sustainable development goals from various sectors. As the avenue looks forward to reaching 1000 blog articles by the end of RI 2023-24, the team remains dedicated to blending creativity and collaboration for continued success. Creativity Soars! Chronicle Edition 2 32 Despite the busy schedule, the Editorial Avenue actively contributed in special day articles and captions with Sinhala translations. In the last quarter, we introduced a new segment, “Tale Trail.” During this quarter the editorial team showcased their creativity by crafting two captivating stories, namely “The Apartment” and “Mathew – The Boy with Dream Powers,” adding a unique touch to our content offerings. MEMBER RELATIONS Avenue

As we reflect on the second quarter of the RI Year 2023-24, the Member Relations Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya has continued its journey of fostering unity, engagement, and enthusiasm among its members. This quarter, the spotlight is on the much-anticipated RotaTomorrow 4.0 project, showcasing the club's commitment to personal and collective development. The quarter commenced with the successful completion of prospect member registrations, building on the momentum from the previous quarter's registration drive. This growth not only strengthens the club's membership base but also injects new energy and ideas into the Rotaract community. In December, the club launched the RotaTomorrow 4.0 project, a testament to its dedication in cultivating leadership and teamwork. The strategic division of members into 12 teams reflects a deliberate effort to harness diverse skills and talents, promoting collaboration and maximizing the impact of the upcoming initiative. A significant achievement during this quarter is the finalization of the RotaTomorrow 4.0 Organizing Committee and Mentors. These dedicated individuals bring experience and passion to the table, ensuring the seamless execution of the project by providing valuable guidance to the participating teams. Refinement of project categories and the evaluation process has been a key focus, with the club striving to create a framework that encourages innovation and meaningful contributions to real-world challenges. PUBLIC RELATIONS Avenue

Chronicle Edition 2 44 In this 2nd quarter, our Rotaract community took a unique path, steering away from the traditional focus on specific initiatives. Instead, we embraced a tapestry of celebrations, unity, and shared moments that defined our journey. One standout episode was the heartwarming Children's Day Instagram challenge. Rotaractors delved into their photo archives, sharing snapshots from their early years. This light-hearted initiative painted our digital space with hues of innocence, creating connections that transcended the usual Rotaract activities. Amidst this, we maintained the allure of our Instagram wall through consistent efforts, featuring TikTok videos and employing the 3 by 1 layout. Additionally, the tradition of sharing flyers for special days continued, serving as platforms for collective reflection and celebration within our community. On Polio Day, our commitment to impactful actions reached a pinnacle with the creation of an awareness video. This initiative amplified our collective voice, showcasing our dedication to advocacy and making a difference beyond our immediate circles. As we navigate the dynamic landscape of university life, our Rotaract family evolves, finding joy and unity in unexpected corners. This quarter's tapestry of celebrations stands as a testament to our community's resilience and adaptability. We prove that, even without emphasizing specific initiatives, we can create moments that strengthen the bonds of our shared journey. Looking ahead, the spirit of unity and celebration accompanies us into the next chapter of our Rotaract story. Each initiative, from childhood photo sharing to awareness videos, contributes to the vibrant mosaic that defines our community. As a significant development, we proudly announced the appointment of Team Leaders for this term, marking a new era of shared leadership within our Rotaract family. Together, we navigate the currents of university life, weaving threads of connection, joy, and purpose that endure beyond the confines of our immediate endeavours. Writer Rtr. Sewwandi Rexmi
