CHAPTER
SPOTLIGHT

IOTA ALUMNI

Iota Alumni Chapter welcomed Michelle Clouse, Family Consumer Science (FCS) Education
Program Director at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), to its meeting in September.
Ms. Clouse, who is completing her doctorate at Utah State University, presented the program
entitled, “Current Status and Future of Family and Consumer Sciences Education Programs – Focus
on EKU’s FCS Ed Program.”
The EKU program was suspended for three years and re-established fall semester 2021. She reported
on enrollment, curriculum updates, and plans to propose an FCS teaching minor in addition to the
FCS major and minor tracks. Members were interested in the renewal of the program which serves
the central and eastern Kentucky regions.

PHI ALUMNI

In January, Phi Alumni Chapter hosted a community puzzle tournament. The
Puzzle Tournament had two catergories, a Family Division that consisted of four
people completing a 400-500 piece puzzle; and an Adult Division where a four
person team completed a 750-1,000 piece puzzle.
The tournament was expanded to include a community service component and
participants from the Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program (BCYMP)
that matches school-aged children with a caring adult. Six youth mentoring teams
participated in the 2022 tournament along with 11 adult teams and two family
teams.
An article appeared in the local Brookings Register in the “Have You Heard”
section promoting the puzzle tournament.
