Alpha Iota

From Friday February 16th to Sunday February 18th Phi Chi Theta took a 46-hour stand in the fight against pediatric can-
cer in Penn State’s Dance Marathon known as THON.
THON’s mission is about providing both emotional and financial support for families supported by Four Diamonds at Penn
State Children’s Hospital. No Four Diamonds family will ever see a medical bill while their child is going through treatment.
Since 1973, THON has raised over $146 million dollars, all put to helping offset the costs of treatment, provide specialty
care to serve the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families, and fund research, where
the doctors at Penn State Hershey are working with oncologists around the country to find a cure.
We continue to remember our angels, Jackie Mazur and Savion Atterberry. Although they may not be with us anymore, we
feel them every day through their families and the spirit of THON. A few weeks before THON this year, we got some amaz-
ing news about our 3rd THON child, Leiland Smith. After many months of treatment, Leiland officially entered remission!
We celebrated by having the whole Smith family up for THON hoops, where we watched the Men’s Basketball team beat
Rutgers! After the game, some brothers and the Smith’s got together for pizza and time with Leiland. His playful energy
and smile lit up the whole room, and just reminded us why we THON, for the kids!
Phi Chi Theta was represented at THON by our 6 amazing dancers: Kelsey Marr, Carson Smith, Alex Tobar, Alexis
Biesecker, Sarah Weigand, and Cath Kutys. Our brothers danced their hearts out for all 46 hours without sitting or sleep-
ing. They were able to see the Atterberry family down on the floor where Savi’s grandfather “Papi” told them, “Don’t be
sad, don’t cry. Savi is with all of you right now.”
This year through our yearlong fundraising efforts, PCT raised a total of $91,787.13, our second highest total ever as an
organization!! Penn State students as a whole were able to raise a total $10,151,663.93, all For The Kids!

Alpha Mu

On March 3rd, 2018, members of Phi Chi Theta - Alpha Mu Chapter fund-raised and danced for 12 hours in support of the
University of Maryland’s annual dance marathon, Terp Thon.
Terp Thon works year-round to raise money and awareness for Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C.
and culminates in a 12-hour dance marathon. Students stand for 12 hours to represent the typical length of a nurse’s shift
at Children’s National. This year, Terp Thon raised $734,617.10 For The Kids!
Every year Phi Chi Theta participates and fund-raises for Terp Thon. In 2018, our fundraising efforts have consisted of
letter writing campaigns, canning trips, selling burgers, and much more!  This March, Alpha Mu announced a grand total of
$20,499, continuing their streak of being the top fund-raiser of all fraternities on campus and raising the 3rd largest total of
all student organizations.
Phi Chi Theta is proud to come together in support of a cause that makes a difference in the lives of so many children and
families. We are and always will be For The Kids!

Alpha Omega

On Thursday, February 22, 2018, the Alpha Omega chapter of Phi Chi Theta hosted our first-ever Professor Panel. As a
fraternity, we strive to learn as much as possible from each other and the members of our community. That being said, our
chapter invited 5 professors from the Rutgers Business School and School of Management and Labor Relations to speak
at our panel and share their personal experiences. These professors are all highly respected and very successful within
their own fields, but much of the interactions we have with them is limited to the classroom setting. The Professor Panel
gave our brothers as well as other Rutgers students an opportunity to learn about our Professors on a whole new basis;
focusing on their professional experiences and personal development throughout their careers. Our professors represent-
ed the fields of Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Human Resource Management, but their experiences proved
to be very diverse and inspiring to hear about. The Professor Panel gave our brothers and fellow Rutgers students great
insight into the experiences of our professors and provided us with valuable advice from business men and women who
are leaders in their field. Overall, this was a successful event and our chapter is grateful for the cooperation and guidance
from our professors.

Beta Chi

In November, Beta Chi gathered together to host a Thanksgiving meal for all members, alumni, and friends. Our chapter
had an entire Thanksgiving spread with a turkey, potatoes, casseroles galore, macaroni and cheese, and pies on top of
pies. As our chapter gathered together over food and festivities, we all realized just how special our organization is and
how much it has impacted us all individually. We laughed and joked the whole night, and we stated our thankfulness for
the continued growth of the Beta Chi Chapter. Of course, we learned who can cook and who should be kept far, far away
from an oven! We made an effort to appreciate both big and small moments within each of our lives, and the food was not
too bad either! In addition, Beta Chi participated in a local (Martin, Tennessee) Angel Tree project. We collected enough
monetary support to buy Christmas presents for TWO children in Weakley County whose families are currently strug-
gling financially. As we read the children’s wish lists, we saw items such as jackets, toboggans, and gloves/mittens. The
experience humbled us and allowed us to appreciate just how fortunate we are to be able to afford basic necessities. Our
chapter was able to help two young children this year, and we hope to provide for more children next year. We encourage
you to donate time, money, or resources to local charities and events in your area!

Delta Xi

On February 8th, member of the Delta Xi chapter held a Networking Etiquette Dinner with Speedway and Kohl’s. In order
to make the dinner successful, we worked alongside Career Services, Central Michigan’s Catering, and PLAN. The event
was well executed and turned out to be a success. The purpose of the dinner is to teach students about Etiquette as well
as allow students to network with employers. This year we offered professional head shots as well, to make the event
more enticing to students. Everyone had a great time learning about Kohl’s and Speedway. The representative from
Speedway was a Western Michigan chapter Phi Chi Theta Alumni. Meeting alumni from the fraternity is a fun experience
and we are hoping to invite more Alumni of Phi Chi Theta to attend our future events. This dinner is a tradition that we
hope to maintain each year because it is both beneficial to students and employers.

Among the three business fraternity chapters within our business college, our chapter prides ourselves on the various
professional events and trips planned every semester. During this past fall semester, our chapter planned our annual
semester professional project trip across the Canadian border in to Windsor, Ontario. While in Windsor, our chapter had
the privilege to meet with professionals from Quicken Loans and Federal Mogul to network among the different branches.
They learned further about the specified industries and experienced further into their company cultures. Quicken Loans is
known for their fast-paced dynamic culture, which appealed to a large majority of our group. We thank Quicken Loans and
Federal Mogul for meeting with us and providing our chapter with a first-hand learning experience.
Our chapter strives to enhance our culture through expanding our horizons by traveling internationally and incorporat-
ing various cooperative events throughout the school year. This past fall, our chapter received the Multicultural Award
through the Haworth College of Business Organization Awards. We were extremely proud to receive this award, because
our chapter recognizes that having a diverse group of people within our chapter creates further creativity and innovative
idea generation. We look forward to further growing as a diverse chapter in the years to come. Upcoming events we are
looking forward to: Professional Project in St. Louis, Missouri, Case Competition with Michigan State University’s chapter,
various philanthropic events.

Epsilon Phi

This semester has been full of opportunities for our current pledge class.
Our goal is to provide resources, advice and friendship. An active, Sha-
shank Raj, gave this piece of advice to the group of incoming members:
“Life is a game full of wins and losses. With a clear conscious and am-
bitious drive, try to win each and every day. The brothers and sisters in
PCT are on your team, and here to help you reach your professional and
personal goals. Reach out early and often.” We are thankful for everyone
in Phi Chi and their passion for helping others professionally and personally.
The service events this semester have made an impact on the East Lansing community. The first one was a Valentine’s
Day Card event focused on creating cards for Angel’s Place. We created 100+ cards with the support of our brothers and
sisters. Additionally, we had seven of our members volunteer at the Greater Lansing Food Bank. Our Service Chair, Anna
Czapski, volunteered at this event. She described her experience as: “We packaged over 100 lbs of dry, non perishable
foods and over 100 bags of carrots. We had lots of fun and made a positive impact on the East Lansing community!” Phi
Chi is looking forward to the others events throughout the semester.

Zeta Epsilon

Early this January, the Zeta Epsilon chapter of Grand Valley State University attended their annual professional develop-
ment trip in New York City. Our brothers visited many impressive companies, universities and museums. We toured the
grounds and attended an informational session about the MBA program offered at Columbia University. Our favorite firm
tour and informational session was with Tiffany & Co.. We received a presentation about the brand as well as the paths
that different upper-level management employees took to get to the position they were in. The panelists also discussed
some of their different marketing strategies and branding techniques, which was immensely valuable for members of our
chapter that are getting ready to enter the workforce. We were also able to tour the Museum of Natural History! Collective-
ly a crowd favorite as we were able to see many of the famous pieces used in the filming of Night At The Museum. Overall
the amount of knowledge and understanding for the corporate world that each of our members received on this short trip
is difficult to sum up into words since we were able to do so much in so little time. Trips like these offer the Zeta Epsilon
chapter a unique experience that many college students do not get to experience, and that is why the professional devel-
opment trip is so valuable to our organization and chapter.

Zeta Eta

On March 7th, the Zeta Eta Chapter participated in the annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake event put on by the Big Brothers Big
Sisters Organization in South Central Indiana. The event has been a long-standing tradition with the chapter, as Phi Chi
Theta has been the largest group to participate in the fundraiser for many years. The event kick-started about a week
beforehand when the Zeta Eta Chapter began raising money for the organization. With a goal of $1500 the chapter raised
a total of $987 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. After the fundraising, the event began with the brothers partaking in black-light
bowling and a limbo contest (Vish Matta and Andrew Cox proudly represented the Zeta Eta Chapter).
Aside from the Bowl for Kids’ Sake event, the Zeta Eta Chapter has a very strong partnership with Big Brothers Big
Sisters. The chapter also puts on the annual Fall Fest and Kickstart to College for the kids. These events not only allow
the chapter to form a strong relationship with a philanthropic organization, but they also allow the brothers to form strong
relationships with the kids. The Zeta Eta Chapter is proud to hold such a strong relationship with such an outstanding and
rewarding organization.

Zeta Nu The Zeta Nu Chapter at The Ohio State University is proud to an-
nounce their new partnership with The Boys & Girls Club of Columbus.

Members work alongside program coordinators to help area youth

ensure academic success, establish healthy lifestyles, build character,

and develop leadership skills. Each week, the chapter sends five mem-

bers to the Club for “Power Hour,” where they assist kids of all ages

with homework and other educational activities. While the chapter has

always had strong community involvement, this particular arrangement

allows the members to make a continued impact upon a local organi-

zation. Current philanthropy chair, junior Boston Waltz said, “I really

wanted to make a difference in the Columbus community long-term and

the best way I felt I could accomplish that was with consistent service to

one organization. The Boys & Girls Club of Columbus is a great orga-

nization that provides after-school programs to kids of elementary age

all the way up through high school, empowering them to reach their full

potential. It is very rewarding for our members to be able to give back in

such a meaningful way and make a difference in the lives of these kids.

We are very grateful to be able to be involved as much as we are and look forward to getting further involved in the near

future.” From left to right, the members in the photo are Aishu Suresh, Jenny Zheng, and Abby Marks.

Zeta Xi

Professional growth is the core of what we instill in our members in Phi Chi Theta. In the Zeta Xi chapter, located at Drake
University in Des Moines, Iowa, we realize that not all of our members will stay in Des Moines after they graduate. We
regularly focus on growing our professional network in Des Moines through company tours and hosting professionals on
campus, and we decided to expand these opportunities for our members by hosting trips around the Midwest to develop
that network for those who are looking to move outside of the Des Moines area after graduation. With this idea in mind,
we set up our first trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the fall of 2016. On this trip, we visited the US Bank headquarters,
Ameriprise, and Oracle where we were able to speak with professionals from departments ranging from finance to ac-
counting to marketing and more. With the success of this trip we planned another trip to Chicago during the fall of 2017
where we toured ZS Associates, Supernova, and a chapter favorite, Google. Because these trips have been highly attend-
ed and well received by our members, we decided to do another trip this spring of 2018 to Kansas City where we will visit
Hostess, VML Advertising Agency, and C2FO. In the coming years, we hope to visit Omaha, Milwaukee and St. Louis to
name a few, and hope to introduce our chapter to the countless networking opportunities available not just in Des Moines,
but all around the Midwest. As our alumni chapter grows, this also opens countless opportunities for our members to use
our Zeta Xi alum as resources not only around the Midwest, but around the country and even internationally.

Zeta

Zeta’s Spring 2018 highlight revolves around our social media,
website and overall brand image revamp. Our Editorial Director,
Justin Lee, took the initiative starting in January to spruce up our website and completely revitalize our Instagram and
Facebook feed. In the past, we’ve slowly tried to gain traction on the platforms while using our website as an anchor. How-
ever, our Instagram following along with our Facebook activity was relatively low. We did not actively or habitually utilize
posting schedules nor did we habitually hold photoshoots for brothers, so as a result the marketing team was pressed to
dig for marketing material. Justin dived into his role by initiating photoshoots all throughout the semester. After reaching
out individually to brothers for shoots, he truly spends time with each and every person to capture candid moments. On
Instagram and Facebook, he follows a posting schedule that he has planned out. For example, on Mondays he features
executive board members with a spotlight called “Meet E-board Monday,” on Wednesdays it’s “Working Wednesday,” and
Fridays is “Fun-Fact Friday”. He also features alumni, birthday brothers, and holidays or important dates such as National
Founders’ Day. Not only did Justin revitalize our social media platforms, but he also took the initiative to add more flavor
and personality to our website. He added more depth to the e-board page by including short biographies, spruced up the
photos featured in the Gallery page, and also compiled graphics from every past event in order to completely populate the
Events page. The photos featured on all platforms were carefully taken and curated to give a more professional image of
our chapter. Details such as captions, Facebook paid boosts, and timing of posts have proved essential to our outreach.
Justin, the marketing team, as well as the tech team have all played important roles in refurbishing our brand and overall
image.
