Black Elk Post “All the Fun That’s Fit to Print”
It’s All About Family
Family knew the importance of such a special area.
It’s All About Friends
Friends discovered what family knew.
It’s All About The “Y”
The “Y” provided the back ground for ALL to become family.
One Weekend in Estes Park
Ever so many came together from all over the country to spend time in the Colorado Rockies
The recently refurbished and renamed Black Elk cabin provided the base camp for so many to meet, to reacquaint and to discover. Located near the entrance to one of the most revered national parks in America, Rocky Mountain National Park, and on THE most beautiful YMCA camp in the

country, YMCA of the Rockies, the Black Elk cabin stood up to the onslaught of people who wanted to have fun, to eat and drink, and to share in the mutual love of the great outdoors.
This great experience would not have been possible without the love and generosity of Rick and Julie. The detailed planning was evident throughout the weekend:
•
•
•
Accommodations - How
cool was it to stay in those
cabins so close to everyone else
and with such great views? Having a cup of coffee or tea on the front porch first thing in the morning never felt so good.
Food and Drink - The “Y” has probably never seen such a wonderful dedication ceremony. The food and drink were second to none.
Cowboy Brad - What’s a party in Estes Park without Cowboy Brad singing John Denver songs?
VISION FOR A SPECIAL TIME
They had a dream and a vision to bring together many of the people in their lives who meant something to them. How many times can you put into action
words from one of their favorite artists (or at least Rick’s favorite artist!): “I have to say it now, it’s been a good life all in all, it’s really fine to have a chance to hang around.”
Poems, Prayers and Promises, John Denver
Rick and Julie - Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain High I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky Mountain High
- John Denver
The Setting - Oh yeah. How ‘bout them mountains? Just not enough things to do, right? Wrong. Maybe more like just not enough time to do all the things one might want to do!
So the Texans and the Coloradans and the Californians and
the Utahns met
for a grand ole’ time. Not sure if all of those state words are actually correct! We came, we saw, we climbed, we sang and we partied.
All was good.
“Caring: to demonstrate a sincere concern for others, for their needs and well-being” - YMCA
Random thoughts: Nice to actually see it raining fire in the sky...the road to the visitor
center is not for the faint of heart...bull elks are large and majestic beasts...Julie and
Joan are rock stars for all their work in prepping the place for visitors...it gets windy
at 12,000 feet above sea level...just where are the ghosts at the Stanley?...caring for your family and friends can be the most wonderful thing in the world.
