SVP Choir Team Started life as UTM Choir in 1999. The choir team succeeded in their early days in national and international competitions and achieved a silver diploma in the Choir Olympics 2004. The team was the national champion of the Intervarsity Choir Competition in 2002, 2003 and 2004 before the competition was called off. The competition revived in 2007, and the team emerged as 1st runner-up, settled behind (UKM). After the team’s revival in 2018, the choir continued its tradition of attending international competitions, winning the Flemish Video Award at the World Choir Games 2021 and another silver diploma at the MCE International Choir Festival 2023. The team rebranded into Southern Voice Choir in 2020, which was then absorbed into SVP after the formation of its orchestra branch in 2023. However, the team continues to provide a platform for students to sing while spreading quality music.
SVP Orchestra Team The SVP Orchestra team started in 2021 as an instrumental branch of the Southern Voice Choir (SVC) that would provide music education to UTM students. This idea eventually led to the formation of the Southern Voice Orchestra (SVO), which, together with SVC, is known as Southern Voice Philharmonia, SVP. After its formation, several classes were conducted, and a performance team was formed. However, with the leadership of Ms. How Hui En, SVO, now absorbed into SVP as its orchestra team, expanded into a small orchestra with several instruments, including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussions.
String Ensemble The string ensemble of SVP is the earliest sub-group to be formed in the SVP orchestra team. The team now consists of 6 fabulous string players from UTM. The team performed several pieces in their previous performances, such as “Vivaldi: Spring - First Movement”, “Jisoo - Flower”, and many more. In the future, the team wishes to spread quality music to UTM students, hoping to start a new musical renaissance within the campus.
