our achievements but we still have a long way to go.

It is the synergy of the ShCT key players that illumines and
nurtures our learners to become our future leaders. This
initiative of having our own College Magazine is a result of
us coming together with a common purpose. This will etch
the unspoken words of all ShCT’s stakeholders’ hardwork,
perseverance, teamwork and professionalism. Our relentless
pursuit of excellence in the academic and non-academic areas
serves as our torch to continue moving forward bringing the
best version of ourselves each day.

The office of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is geared
to provide support for students to develop their capacity
on various skills apart from their academic skills. We hope
that our sincere efforts inspire and motivate our students to
overcome difficulties and conquer challenges as they tackle
new opportunities and experiences and become well-rounded

“Teamwork makes the dream work.”

- Bang Gae

It is with great pride, enthusiasm, and anticipation to read the
inaugural issue of “Synergy”, the official magazine of Shinas
College of Technology. I congratulate the people behind this
magazine for their commendable teamwork and the enormous
amount of work they did for the publication of this magazine. I
believe that the entire community will see that effort reflected in
this maiden issue and in the impact it will have on our students,
faculty and staff, and other stakeholders in the academe.
The primordial role of the institution is in itself a work in
progress actively seeking ideas from all the internal and direct
stakeholders and the community in terms of structure, goals,
and vision of Shinas College of Technology. Synergy will allow
us to touch the lives of our students and the community and
in so doing we teach and transform them and vice versa. I
look forward to the launching of this important medium as we
develop our fullest potential as an academic institution.
Congratulations, Synergy! Indeed, Aristotle is right when he

Another thing that provided me with an edge is ‘building an
impressive resume before graduation.’ Building a resume denotes
that I have specific goals and that I set my mind to conquer the world
of professionals. For that, I advise ShCT students to be exceptional
even before you graduate so that you can be prepared to embrace
the challenges along your way after graduation. Once, you are
equipped with ample knowledge, and interpersonal and technical
skills, more and big opportunities will knock at your doorstep.

I started my career as an equipment maintenance engineer for three
years. After which, I got promoted as a senior maintenance engineer
for one year. At present, I am the engineering manager for Hutchison

Below are the things that I have learned while working in a company
with different people from different backgrounds.

• You have to be a leader, not a boss.
• Use your failures to empower your momentum.
• Success starts when your actions become greater

than your excuses.
• If you want better results, you must become better.
• The biggest communication problem is “we do not

listen to understand. We listen to reply.” Listen to
understand.
• Success does not come to those who wait. Start to
achieve your own Success.

January 2016 to present
ShCT has helped me develop myself not only in terms of obtaining a
good GPA but also in developing my interpersonal skills. At ShCT, I was
given a chance to grow, especially as a student leader. Getting involved
in college clubs while working on my academic courses has allowed
me to learn the multitasking skills, which continually aid me now to
be more efficient in my current job as a software developer for Sohar
Aluminium. Moreover, ShCT has helped me gain self-confidence and
master time management that opened great doors of possibilities for
my career.

Not only that, now that I have joined the global workforce, I realized
that everything that I have learned from my alma mater aids in my
day-to-day work amidst the varied circumstances at work. When I
head to my workplace, I know I’ll be working within a team, and it
is good that during our college days we were taught how important
teamwork is. This is not simply learned in the classroom but by
joining different college activities and exhibitions. Remembering
the challenges I faced during my exam periods, I used to think of
the pressures I had at that moment. Now, all I can say is that I am
thankful to have experienced those challenges, which molded me to
be at my best even under pressure.

To the students, please remember that attending classes will not be
sufficient for your training. You need to be involved; you need to be
engaged in different activities. Do not hesitate to explore and join
all college activities because you will benefit from those through the
skills which will be helpful to you. It is the key to become well-rounded
individuals! Continue to expand your horizon and learn as much as
you can while you are still under the care of our beloved Alma Mater.

Reaching our dreams is a far-fetched reality without the guidance of

not only for myself but also for my family and my country.

While taking my Bachelor’s Degree, I got the scholarship, which made

At the academic level, I have a bachelor’s degree that I have

whether on the academic or personal level. Shinas College of

always keep saying that “curriculum” is a gate to us
as students to enter the field, but it is not a measure
to say that the information ends with the end of
curriculum. Continuing the process of searching for
complete information depends on us. Searching
for information has become very easy. Also,
contacting, discussing, and learning with/from

important. My experience in the field was
not only the result of ongoing research, but

I have a plan to attend distance training. There is always
two hours in my daily schedule to attend one of the training
courses from different sites, including: udemy.com. This site
provides very rich educational materials in various fields. My
plan is to continue having a daily schedule for two hours to
follow the course content which may take around a month
for doing many lessons and follow-up homework. By the
end of this course, I will gain intensive experience as well as
documentation of achievement with a certificate of passing
the course successfully.

Each task adds to all of us the interesting scientific content
as well as creates relationships with ambitious individuals
from the community whether they are in the same field or
not. The exchange of views is very important. The fact is
that these relationships led to the formation of a team of 13
people from different fields: design, programming, marketing,
law, public relations and others to form two Omani companies
in programming and design. It is an excellent Omani crew
and a start that I personally consider as a way to reach the
global arena.

Conquering the World of I.T.

Fatma Al-Jabri

ITS Club President, 2017

The technology of informatics is important,
especially in our time. The more we progress,
the more important Information Technology
becomes and the more IT affects our lives at
home, at work and in the street.

I have realized this since I got onto the IT
ship and sailed through my specialization.
The more my love for information technology
deepened, the more that my computer has
become a friend of mine.

I learned how to design a unique website that
overcomes all the difficulties. I learned how to
troubleshoot computers and how to deal with
them. I learned how to persevere—not to give
up, to keep on trying, searching, and exploring
to find the answer.

I get closer to IT when I help someone to learn
something new or when someone comes to
ask me to enlighten her on IT-related topics.
Information Technology is not just about com-
puters but also about life.

For now, I need to continue my journey by ex-
ploring the world of IT and trying to emerge as
a model to my fellow students. With the help
of ShCT and my family, I will continue to work
hard so that my dreams would be realized and
I could serve my country.

Education is what we can obtain that cannot be stolen by anyone. It is a
privilege which is not given freely without working on it. I have learned that
to achieve what you are aspiring for, you need to exert your effort and even
go the extra mile to achieve more. It is not easy but setting your mind to go
beyond mediocrity will give you an extraordinary result.

It is my great pleasure to share with you all the joy and achievements in
passing CCNA certification. This will not be possible without the support of
IT Department lecturers who inspired and supported me throughout the
process.

I would also like to acknowledge the hardwork and patience extended by
our experienced, professional and knowledgeable trainers of CCNA, our IT
Network teachers, who have worked hard for months for us to bring home the
bacon in the CCNA NetRiders Competition 2017, Middle East Region and
be the Winner in Huawei ICT Skill Competition, Middle East National Final
Round.

Thank you to the IT Department for your dedication to serve the Omani
community. Thank you for grooming us into future achievers, leaders and
raising fine young citizens with a benevolent mind and caring heart.

My sincere gratitude goes also to the ShCT management and my parents for
the concerted efforts and support.

I urge all my fellow students to have a broader perspective in learning not
only inside the classroom but to see other opportunities to grow as a person.
Having a good foundation in college will expand our horizon in choosing a
job. We need to develop ourselves as an active learner to be independent
yet reflective in thinking, have self-initiative and be creative. We should be
a responsible citizen that possesses positive values, with selfless interest for
public welfare and commitment for the development of our country. Let us
be role models not only to our family but also to others, and let us bring the
sweet fruit of success to our beloved country, Oman!

I wish everyone the best for the future!

Thank you.

Well Done!
