Teaching Philosophy!
The development of a personal teaching philosophy helps define
beliefs and values that shape curriculum goals and delivery of
material. This author most closely identifies with pragmatism, which
emphasizes real-world experiences (Billings and Halstead, 2016).
Championed by educational reformer John Dewey, pragmatism
promotes hands-on experience, group work and creative approaches
to foster problem solving and collaboration. Nursing students in a
pragmatism-based program will be adaptable and able to interact
effectively with stakeholders--necessary qualities in an increasingly
complex healthcare environment.
