Past simple:affirmatives

We can usd the past simple to describe event in the past.

Structure

affirmatives s + V2.

For Example :

He played football yesterday.
I walked to work ten years ago.
She washed her clothes herself last
year.

Principle of use

Verb's law in the past (call it V2).
1. Sometimes add -ed e.g. walked
2. Some words are completely
changed, such as ate.
3. Sometimes it doesn't change
anything, e.g. read, hit.

c) Tina worked at the mall.

Past simple:questions and negative

QUESTIONS

Principle of use

1. Sentences with the verb to be ( was, were )
To change a sentence This type of giving is a question to move.
The verb to be is placed in front of it and put a tick at the end of
the sentence.

For Example :

Was he at school yesterday?
Were they were at home yesterday ?

2. Other types of sentences not included in Rule 1 when needed.
Make pasttense, use the verb “Did” to help, and when using the
verb “Did” to help, the original verb in the question has to change
its form to the verb 1.

Structure

Did + subject + original verb + extension

For Example :

Did he walk to work yesterday?
Did they work late last night?
Did Rob do the exercise last week?

Principle of use

In negative sentences, was not or were not.
can write abbreviation
was not abbreviated as wasn't were not
can be abbreviated as weren't

For Example :

Present Perfect with Ever/Never

Present Perfect talks about the time that occurred in the past and present to the present.

EVER

The adverbs ever and never describe or show time.
not specifically stated before (Have you ever visited Berlin?)
'Ever' and 'never' are placed before the main verb (verb 3).

Principle of use

— In question — In negative interrogative sentences

For Example: For Example :
Have you ever been to England? Haven't they ever been to Europe?
Has she ever met the Prime Minister? Haven't you ever eaten Chinese food?

— In negative sentences, use nothing+ever — Used with 'The first time'
or nobody+ever.
For Example :
For Example: It's the first time that I've ever eaten snails.
Nobody has ever said that to me before. This is the first time I've ever been to England.
Nothing like this has ever happened to us.

NEVER

Never means never until now. and is synonymous with
not ..... ever (I have never visited Berlin).

Please be careful! Do not use never and not together.

For Example:
I haven't never been to Italy.
I have never been to Italy.

Present Perfect with
just/already/yet

JUST

Principle of use Just

Just = Just used the real verb.

For Example :

I have just eaten an apple.
She has just finished cooking.

ALREADY

Already means something that has happened before but is not clearly


defined at the time. Let them know that you don't have to do it again.

For Example :

I've already drunk three coffees this morning.
Don't write to John, I've already done it.

YET

Yet is used in negative and interrogative sentences, meaning (not yet)
in the interval between before and now and (not) until now. Yet is
typically placed at the end of a sentence.

For Example :

Have you met Judy yet?
I haven't visited the Tate Gallery yet.
Has he arrived yet?
They haven't eaten yet.

Principles of using the Future simple tense

1. Use to predict what will happen in the future. or if in simple

Be going to

Going to is used to tell an event. or stories that will
happen in the future

The principle of using be going to

The be going to principle is used when a decision has been made.
Before telling each other at this point and used to predict what will
happen with the accompanying circumstances.
