Introducing Baseline Processing
Credit Card Processing
Understanding Your Rates
Making sense of your credit card processing statement can be challenging. The major Canadian Processors have a number of strategies they employ to keep merchants confused. The best way to see through their smoke and mirror tactics is to understand who profits from your fees.
There are three groups involved. First, the Networks are paid. Visa and MasterCard collect 0.10% on every transaction involving their cards. These rates are non-negotiable so we can skim right over them. The second group is comprised of all the banks who issue credit cards. When a bank issues a new type of card it’s assigned a group of rates. These are the card’s Interchange Rates.
At the moment every card type is given 6 Interchange rates:
 Card-Not-Present (Non face-to-face charges)
 Card Present (Swiped through a POS Terminal)
 Recurring (Multiple charges to the same card, by the same merchant,
following a very specific set of steps)
 Everyday Needs shopping (purchases from certain business types who
sell “necessities”)
 Grocery Store transactions
 Gas Station charges
Interchange rates progressively decrease as we move from Card-Not- Present (most costly) to Gas Stations (lowest cost). To further muddy the waters a 7th Category is being added July 1st. Now before you throw up your hands and give-up on ever keeping track of your fees let me just say this: The 7th Category is going to be hugely beneficial to many RVDA members. And that’s because the new category includes several sectors of the Travel & Entertainment Industry. Rent RVs? Own a Campsite? Your rates should go down July 1st. That’s the good news.
The not-so-good news is that the third group who profit from your fees, the Processors who complete the transactions, have to choose between lowering your rates and pocketing the difference. As you can imagine, they haven’t had a particularly good track record in these situations.
Fortunately RVDA members who transfer to the new Processing Plan will receive these rates automatically. If you’re unable to transfer before July 1st it’s a good idea to speak with your Account Manager. If you no longer have an Account Manager or don’t think you’ve ever had one I now look after the RVDA’s credit card processing. You should feel free to contact me with any questions.

Introducing Team RV Express
Team RV Express of Middlebury, In. announced late last month that the transport company has been unanimously approved as an Associate Member of the BC RVDA.
“We are extremely proud to be members of this organization,” said Team RV Express Territory Manager and resident of Langley, B.C., Devon Mason. “As we are a transport company in BC RVDA we believe we can provide a unique perspective that will be bene cial to the group.” Mason is an 11-year veteran of the RV industry and a life- long resident of British Columbia. He got his start in the business as a sales rep with Carriage RV in Millersburg, In.
“While I was a factory rep, I just expected units to show up to my customers like magic,” Mason said. “Now that I am on the transportation side, I have a whole new appreciation for how much work it takes to get an RV from point A to point B.”
While Team RV Express is based
in Indiana’s “RV country,” its roots are
in Ontario with a touch of B.C. on the
side. “Our ownership is from Kingston,
Ontario but also lived and worked for
many years on Vancouver Island,”
Mason explains. The owners—Mike and
Kelly McGee—have fostered a service
orientated culture that has spread across two countries, he added.
“In the last year Team RV has grown tremendously but we still maintain that close, personal touch with our customers,” Mason said. The company’s driver base has ballooned to the current number of 310 drivers from the 150 drivers it had at this time last year. Mason said the goal for the upcoming season is 350 drivers.
Team RV Express began 10 years ago with three drivers, according to Mike McGee. “There was me, my father in law and the guy who got paid,” he said through a chuckle. “So we’re pretty proud of where we are right
51796 Lovejoy Dr. Middlebury, IN 46540 Phone: 574-825-0090
now.”
McGee explained that Team RV Express’ niche in the RV
transport business came from his ability to speak French and English uently. “When we started out I approached many dealers in Quebec and helped them by translating their business needs to the reps in Indiana,” McGee said. “It has been a solid partnership that helped us grow and helped us be one of the top DPU carriers in the industry.” The DPU business model started in 2007 led to the birth of sister company Ready RV in October, 2014.
Ready RV does PDIs (pre-delivery inspections) for some of the customers Team RV Express delivers product to. Ready RV’s inception resulted from the dif culties dealerships in Canada encountered when they needed parts or warranties. A couple of the Team RV Express customers suggested they do
DEVONMASON TERRITORy MANAGER TEAM RV ExPRESS
the PDIs prior to delivering the units.
“It seemed like a natural ow for us to pick up the unit at the factor, perform the PDI, take care of any warranty issues that arose and then deliver the unit,” Mason explained. The four-bay shop the McGees opened in the fall of ’14 has since doubled in size
because of the volume of business. “Ready RV has been steadily growing like Team RV because it offers a full PDI service to units before they ship from Indiana,” Mason added. “Dealers that have come on board with this service have seen sales increase because units show up ready to sell.” Many RV industry analysts attribute the two companies’ rapid growth to a reliable transport service and a value- laden PDI. Either way there’s no denying that both Team RV Express and Ready RV have made an impact on the
Canadian RV market and will continue to do so.
“The union between us and BC RVDA should be a win-
win for all,” Mason concluded.

RVDA Dealer of the Year
Congratulations to Jason Bell - RVDA of BC 2017 RV Dealer of the year
We would like to congratulate Mr. Jason Bell, Chemo RV Sales and Service, on receiving the 2017 RVDA of BC Dealer of the year Award!!
Jason has served on the RVDA of BC Board of Directors for many years including a 2 year term as President and also served in the capacity as Director on the RVDA of Canada Board. Jason’s undying loyalty to his family, business, staff and community are true indicators of how Jason conducts himself on a day to day basis and never searches out accolades for his accomplishments.
During the horri c re season this past summer Chemo RV stepped up to the plate even as the res were closing in on them to supply a “trailer village” for rst responders and offer relief wherever they could.
Much to his surprise, Jason received his award, presented by his father, Jack Bell, and surrounded by his family and peers at our Annual General Meeting on
September 6th.
Once again we congratulate Jason on his very well
deserved award!!!

Mile House res - a look back at rink City
ANGIE MINDUS - When the res broke out near 150 Mile House July 7, the community pulled together to ght the ames and help each other however they could.
For 150 Mile House business, Chemo RV Sales and Service, that support came in the form of a convoy of trailers arriving at the local re department which affectionately became known as “Rink City.”
Chemo owners and stage set up more than two dozen trailers equipped with air conditioning, whereever they could get them, for re ghters to sleep in at a time when sleep was a luxury.
Some trailers were parked above the hall, but the bulk of them were set up within the local skating rink, located at the re hall.
The location was the perfect spot for volunteers to get some much-needed rest between working 16 to 18 hours days, and was ttingly given the named Rink City.
“I can’t say enough about that,” 150 Mile Fire Chief Stan McCarthy said at the time of the generosity of the trailer donations.
“Everyone’s been incredible.”

Dear RVDA Board Members and Staff,
I am honored to be asked to provide a letter of recommendation for Jason Bell of Chemo RV in Williams Lake and Quesnel, for the RVDA Dealer of the Year in Canada.
I have had the extreme pleasure working with Jason Bell of Chemo RV over the last six years. He has become a close friend and tremendous business partner since our first meeting. Jason's commitment to his staff and customers is unparalleled. He often takes the lead and takes it upon himself to champion the cause for any customer issues that may arise. He always looks for amicable solutions that are a win/win for all parties involved.
I was deeply moved to see Jason take the reins in volunteering and spearheading a campaign to help the groups and individuals affected by the BC wildfires this year. Even with his own family and dealership in peril, Jason made it a priority to solicit his various business partners to help the cause. It was without hesitation that Prime Time and Forest River stepped up to help the people of BC on behalf of Jason Bell.
Over my twenty years in this industry, this is the first time that I have personally seen a dealer proactively take the reins in organizing, supporting and providing key resources necessary to help various communities, groups and individuals devastated by such a disaster. Jason unselfishness continues to impress me. He leads by example and runs his business based on compassion, integrity and good old fashion hard work.
I hope my recommendation strengthens the many admiral characteristics of Jason Bell that you have personally experienced in the past.
Respectfully, Mark P. Kealoha
Dear RVDA of BC,
August 27, 2017
I am pleased to take an opportunity to extend our support of Jason Bell with Chemo RV Sales
as the RVDA of BC’s Dealer of the Year. Not only have I had the privilege of working with Jason these past few years, but many members of the team here at Coachmen Catalina have worked with and known him for many years. Our team has not only appreciated the business and relationships built with Jason, but he sets an example of leadership that I personally find impressive and motivating.
With the extremely unfortunate wildfires forcing, evacuations, and devastating losses throughout BC this summer; BC needed all the support possible. We are aware of the several of the things that Jason was able accomplish to assist the fire departments, Red Cross, and so much of the areas communities. Not only admirable in his financial support, donations, coordinating additional help, and his time spent helping out; but he did this all while being one of the individuals and businesses directly affected.
This year has shown so many citizens of BC, Canada, and the U.S. the Jason Bell that many of us have gotten to know and really appreciate over the years. The way he represents himself, and the business have been, and truly are a great asset to BC. Receiving your Dealer of the Year award is no small honor, and on behalf of the entire Catalina team I would like to encourage the recipient of the award this year to be Jason Bell.
Sincerely,
Chad Yotter

On behalf of Atlas Trailer Coach Products, I would like to Congratulate you, on being named, RVDA of BC, Dealer of the Year!
You are very deserving of this award. You put others first, and go the extra mile to make sure everyone is taken care of.
This year, with the horrendous wildfires in your area, You, & Chemo RV staff, stayed in the danger zone as long as you possibly could, so you could help support the Fire Fighters & other support staff, in any way, whether it was delivering RV’s for them to stay in, or opening your RV Location, to be used by them.
I was deeply moved to see Jason take the reins in volunteering and spearheading a campaign to help the groups and individuals affected by the BC wildfires this year. A new promo video for RV Service Technicians!
Let the RV Service Technicians explain what they do! In this newly created video, a number of technicians, managers and service/parts department personnel were interviewed.
We asked them what makes their work so different and interesting and why they continue to enjoy what they do on a daily basis. The video aims to get people not familiar with RVs or skilled trades in general to imagine working in a job that is highly diverse with endless possibilities.
As you know, the RV technician's job is never boring as the technology is constantly changing. The trade combines 14 major trades such as electrical and plumbing into one skilled trade. Once the technician develops a good foundation, the work is limited only by their imagination. They are required to always think outside the box to troubleshoot and to perform diagnostics.
This video will truly inspire and excite you!

The RV Service Technician Trade receiving the recognition it deserves at the 2017 Skills Canada National Competition
We heard many participants say, “what an incredible trade. Why haven’t we heard about it before?” To which we always responded, “this is why we are here, to showcase our trade.”
The annual Skills Canada National Competition, hosted by Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC), was held from May 31 to June 3, 2017 in Winnipeg, MB.
The annual national competition hosts over 40 skilled trade competitions with over 550 secondary and post- secondary competitors from across Canada. The national competition is also a great venue to educate the public on skilled trades by providing demonstrations, presentations and hands-on experience. Through widespread promotion and industry participation, this national event aims to encourage Canada’s youths to consider skilled trades as a viable, rewarding career option.
As an organization, Skills/Competences Canada exists to encourage and support a coordinated Canadian approach to promoting skilled trades and technologies to youths. Students compete at the regional, Provincial/Territorial, National and ultimately at World Skills competition. Photos don’t do these competitors any justice as the level of competition is really high!
Since our first participation in 2013 as a Try-A-Trade® and Technology partner, we have introduced the RV service technician
trade wherever this event takes us. We were incredibly busy over the competition days as we were told we had “the best” activity throughout the building. We couldn’t have had such a successful showing of the RV service technician trade and other RV career opportunities without the help of local dealers and our sponsors.
Local dealerships provided great support during a very busy time of the year. Everyone showed up with great anticipation and eagerness to make some real connections with students, teachers and parents. There was a lot of noise, laughters and cheering throughout the competition days.
Leisure Travel Vans/Triple E provided a class B for display, which we proudly pointed out that the unit is manufactured in Winkler, Manitoba.

From the moment doors were open to the public, our booth was flooded with students, teachers, parents, competitors and even other exhibitors wanting to build their own folding stool. The line ups grew as the day passes and would take up to 2 hours! Once the participants were finished with their activity, they were welcomed to tour the Class B and learn about all the other opportunities the industry has to offer and the latest RV technology. Just as all the visitors had heard about our awesome activity, they also heard about the freshly baked cookies. The three ovens didn’t let us down and worked as hard as the volunteers did!
Once again, we absolutely blew everyone away with the complexity of our activities, the intricacy of the modern RV and the number of trades found in the one trade.
More photos can be found on the RV Careers Facebook page.
The following sponsors and supporters have provided tremendous support and made our participation possible for 2017!
