CornerTHE MAYOR'S
DECEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER
Principal for the Day
On December 6, Mayor Gilbert participated in Miami-Dade County Public
Schools’ ‘Principal TODAY’ event where he was the principal for a day at
Agenoria S. Paschal/Olinda Elementary School.
The tradition of engaging and inspiring students to reach their full potential is
important and not solely confined to schools within the Miami Gardens City
limits. A priority of Mayor Gilbert is to continue to foster a positive learning
environment, where students are encouraged to WORK!
A special thank you to Principal Cisely Scott for allowing Mayor Gilbert to
be 'Principal TODAY'!
Special Lighting Districts Election
Before After
LET THERE BE LIGHT
On December 11, Miami Gardens Residents voted to transfer
control of the Special Lighting Districts from Miami-Dade
County to the City. The next step is to take an assessment of the
lights within the districts to examine the unique issues
associated with each, followed by the implementation of the
appropriate solutions.
It must be understood that every Special Lighting District does
not have the same challenges, therefore, the solutions will not
be uniformed and input from the Residents will be essential. We
did it Miami Gardens!!!! Let’s get to work!!!
Miami Gardens Holiday Celebration
The Holiday Season is a time of reflection, a time for good cheer and a time for friends
and family. The City of Miami Gardens celebrated the warmth of the season with its
annual Tree Lighting Celebration. The end of the year brings no greater joy than the
opportunity to express to our Residents seasons’ greetings and good wishes. May your
holidays and the New Year be filled with joy.
Thanksgiving "Thank You"
Laptop
One returned and said thank you. Every year, Mayor Gilbert
works with several organizations to distribute Thanksgiving
dinners to families around the community. Through those
organizations we are able to bless a lot of families.
In appreciation of the Thanksgiving dinner, one student was
moved to send a personal thank you note to Mayor Gilbert.
The Mayor appreciated that spirit of gratefulness and in
return gave that young lady a laptop!
