2019_Graduates profile

The City College Academy Professional Preparation (CCAPP) services over 450 students. This year, the program is
graduating 71 students. The program requires students to maintain a minimum of 2.7 GPA while pursuing a career
in STEM. Of the students who are graduating, eight have already been accepted into graduate programs: two students
will matriculate into medical degree programs (M.D. and D.O.), three students will matriculate into Ph.D. programs,
and three students will matriculate into Nurse Practitioner Doctorate programs. Many of the students are recipients of
national scholarships and prestigious awards, such as the Barry Goldwater Scholarship. The CCAPP program is fund-
ed by the New York State Department of Education CSTEP Grant.

Division of Science Valedictorian

Nicole Martinez Santana graduated in February 2019. It took her three and half years to complete her bach-
elor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She was also a Search for Education, Elevation and
Knowledge (SEEK) Scholar. In 2016, she was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is
also a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon, National Honor Society. Nicole was the 2018 recipient of the Ephraim &
Libby Banks Memorial Scholarship and Seek Research Fellowship.
She was a member of both the Biology Club and the SEEK Club. She volunteered at New York-Presbyterian
Hospital, Jerome L. Greene Science Center and The City College of New York Emergency Medical Services.
Nicole will be pursuing a nursing degree in August. She was accepted into Columbia School of Nursing Mas-
ter Direct Entry (MDE), class of 2020; Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner (DNP), class of 2023 programs.

Valeria Grajales was a recipient of the Bernard B. Levine Scholarship, S Jay Levy Fellowship, and New York
Council Merit Scholarship. She was on the Dean’s List from 2015 to present.
She participated at Elmhurst Hospital Center Trauma Internship 2018. She is currently working at the NYU
Langone Department of Neurology as a Research Assistant. Valeria will be presenting her research project
titled: Does Motivational Interviewing Improve Patients’ Participation in Migraine Behavioral Therapy: A Pilot
Single-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial at the American Headache Society 61st Annual Scientific
Meeting, Philadelphia, PA.
Her extracurricular activities includes, Assistant Volleyball Coach for young girls in CYO league, Organizing
migraine awareness campaign for MS Hope Day and participating in CCNY pre-med club.
Valeria plans to work part-time as a medical assistant, while preparing for the MCAT.
