AWARD & ORGANIZATION
EXPLANATIONS

President's Achievement Award

This award recognizes the student whose final cumulative GPA has
the largest difference from their projected law school GPA. This
award is presented to only one student from the entire graduating
class of all campuses.

Alumni Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is chosen by the Cooley Alumni Association based
on character and potential to become an outstanding lawyer.

Distinguished Student Award

WMU Cooley’s Distinguished Student Award is given each semester
to outstanding graduating students selected based upon a

combination of academic accomplishment, demonstrated leadership
at Cooley, meaningful extra-curricular activities, and post-graduation

plans. The recipients are selected by the Executive Committee of
the Cooley Alumni Association’s National Alumni Board.

Leadership Achievement Award

The Leadership Achievement Award is intended to acknowledge
those few students who have consistently, comprehensively, and

effectively provided leadership in a variety of capacities. This
prestigious award is intended to be the culmination of a student’s

participation in leadership activities while at Western Michigan
University Cooley Law School.

AWARD & ORGANIZATION
EXPLANATIONS

Leader's Academy

Leaders Academy is a program designed to formally train lawyers
with leadership skills that will contribute to their careers and society.
The academy provides an opportunity for our students to embrace

the leader role and receive significant guidance and training.

Pro Bono Pledge

The Pro Bono Pledge is a voluntary pledge in which students vow to
complete at least one pro bono experience during the following year

and to either continue to do so every year throughout their legal
careers or to comply with or exceed the pro bono expectations of

their state bar associations.

Cooley Ambassador

WMU Cooley Ambassadors are a group of student volunteers who
represent the school at functions and assist the school in conducting

events and programs.

Graduation Marshal

The Order of Graduation Marshals is an honorary society of student
volunteers who assist the school in conducting dignified and
traditional commencement ceremonies.

WMU Cooley Journal of Practical & Clinical Law

Western Michigan University Cooley Journal of Practical & Clinical
Law is a legal journal which is published by students three times per

year.

AWARD & ORGANIZATION
EXPLANATIONS

Moot Court Board

The Moot Court Board is an appellate-level oral advocacy student
organization, in which competitors argue in front of mock judges of

the Court of Appeals.

Mock Trial Board

Cooley’s mission is, in part, to prepare our graduates to practice law
effectively and ethically. One of the ways we carry out our mission is

by providing many opportunities for us to test our lawyering skills –
against other Cooley students and against other law schools in mock

trial competitions.

Phi Delta Phi

Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity, established in the year
1869 to promote a higher standard of professional ethics, is among
the oldest of legal organizations in North America. Phi Delta Phi is

the oldest and most prestigious Law Fraternity in North America.

Student Bar Association

The purpose of the TB-SBA is as follows: To establish, advocate, and
offer due assistance to fund activities that are deemed to be in the

best interest of the entire student body of the Tampa Bay Campus; To
be a liaison between the student body and school administration that
is capable of fostering requisite interaction between both entities; and
To cultivate a healthy appreciation of the study of law and enlighten

those eager to enter a career in the legal profession.
