HONEY BADGER HERALD
Domuschola International School Newsletter
Message from the Head of School
Jourdan Shanley C. Gan
Dear Domuschola community,
It's a short school week but we still had plenty of activities lined up especially for our Domuschola parents. We would like to thank the usual support and participation of our Domuschola parents during our virtual Parent Coffee last November 4, Wednesday. We were pleased to share the survey results and updates from the various departments such as academics, service learning, guidance, and even PSA projects.
For our other parent-related events this week, the Secondary Years PTC is on Friday, November 6, and a parenting talk focusing on the mental health of teenagers on November 7, Saturday. Parents of both Domuschola International School and Chinese International School Manila are invited to join the parenting talk on Saturday.
DATES TO REMEMBER:
November 6 SECONDARY YEARS PTC
November 7 PARENTING TALK
November 13 NO CLASSES
The speaker for this Saturday's talk is Dr. Mary Daryl Joyce Lindo-Calleja. She is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and the current Director of the Center for Behavioral Health at The Medical City. She is also the Public Relations Officer of The Philippine Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has been active in the national activities of the society such as training adult psychiatrists, especially those in far provinces without child and adolescent psychiatrists. She trains them to handle the mental health needs of the youth for them to be able to respond to the growing needs of the country for child and adolescent mental health.
In line with our community's pursuit of good mental health, we would like to ask parents to encourage less screen time at home for the children, especially during leisure hours (evenings and weekends). Physical exercise, cooking, cleaning, reading a book, gardening, no devices during mealtime. These are just some of the things we can all do at home to help our children reduce the time they spend in front of a screen. Next week, our faculty and staff will be having our scheduled professional development day on November 13, Friday. There will be no classes on this day.
Thank you for your continued support and always remember to stay safe and healthy!

PRIMARY DEPARTMENT 2
ARTFUL ADVENTURE WITH UPPER PRIMARY
In Visual Arts, the Upper Primary students were able to enhance their skills in relation to the Elements of Art particularly about space, proportion, and value. Students were able to explore a variety of techniques that enabled them to understand the concept of the aforementioned elements in order to create appealing and quality-worth pieces of artwork.
The Grade 3 students expanded their perception of the Element of Space through various drawing and collage-making exercises. They were able to make negative and positive space collage art using basic materials found at home, such as colored paper, scissors, and glue, and incorporated their love of animals in the art too.
By the end of the unit, the students were also able to apply the concept of Element of Space and Proportion using the one-point perspective view in accordance with their Unit of Inquiry about Multiple Intelligence which focused mainly on Visual Smart.

PRIMARY DEPARTMENT 3
The Grade 5 students, on the other hand, explored the concept of proportion and value under the context of Human Anatomy and still life. Students were able to amplify their existing knowledge on the Element of Value through various still life- related drawing exercises that helped practice their grasp of applying shadows, highlights, and even mid-tones on certain art compositions.
Facial proportion techniques as well as different art styles were explored as well to create their own character designs which they were able to successfully accomplish by the end of the unit.
There are amazing improvements and more exciting activities to look forward to as we move along the school year and there’s no telling what’s next for these young artists!

SECONDARY DEPARTMENT 4
LET'S GET SYMBOLIC
The Grade 7 students learned about Ancient Egypt from art to its writing system. In this activity, they were tasked to write their names using hieroglyphics. They followed the symbols shown to them and placed protection around their names using the cartouche. They were given two options to do the task -- traditionally or digitally. The students were able to learn that symbols can represent language and culture.

STUDENT LIFE 5
TEAMWORK AND LEADERSHIP TOWARDS A FUN AND MEANINGFUL STUDENT LIFE
“Great leaders are not the best at everything. They find people who are best at different things and get them all on the same team.”
The Student Council continues to lead the Secondary School student body, making school life fun and meaningful. Last week, the 14-member SC Team consisting of its elected officers and class representatives led the Halloween program and activities that included a werewolf game and a fashion show. Leadership and teamwork were very much evident in the delegation of tasks, scheduling, and overall running of the entire event. After a successful United Nations celebration that they also led, the Halloween celebration for Secondary School was another event that showed the Council’s dynamism.

STUDENT LIFE 6
GOOD CITIZENSHIP AND LEADERSHIP LEADING TO PRODUCTIVE AND SAFE SCHOOL LIFE
Also last week, our Secondary School students attended an assembly about 21st century leadership and the role of each student to model good citizenship. Students were reoriented to the Distance Learning Guidelines, including some updates on them. Part of the presentation walked the students through the sections of the handbook, particularly expected behavior and consequences for failing to cooperate. A periodic reorientation aims to remind the students about doing what is right even if there is no one watching. It’s part of the school’s effort to create and maintain an environment that promotes student well-being and optimal learning.

ASAC AND EVENTS 7
HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR: DIS DRIVE THRU EDITION
Mask up! It’s time to celebrate Halloween! Halloween is one of the most anticipated events in Domuschola International School. COVID-19 did not stop the students, teachers, and staff alike to celebrate this event virtually. Students from Pre-K to Grade 5 were all glammed up as they prepared for the much-awaited fashion show wherein students showcased their spooky, imaginative, yet creative costumes. These students’ costumes were a hit and this year’s winners are as follows:
Pre-K: Avander Madolora
Grade 1 : Ziva Cancio
Grade 2: Samar Kumar
Kinder: Liam Sarmenta
Grade 3: Aanya Malhi
Grade 4: Kian Wadwha

ASAC AND EVENTS

Grade 5: Mishka Bernardo
Our dear winners were heavy on creativity and they also pulled together an “aww” and “oohhh” factor by wearing their costumes. Many thanks as well to everyone’s active participation to dress up and join the fun.

ASAC AND EVENTS 9
Moreover, the excitement did not stop as the students enjoyed the party by listening to Halloween fun facts and read-aloud and playing games such as Zoom in, Halloween charades, Would You Rather, etc. in their respective classes. The Primary Assembly was another highlight of the day as the students danced, played Truth or Scare, and participated in the Best in Halloween Costume contest.
Since gatherings and parties are put on hold, the DIS community channeled this spectacular event by having its first Drive Thru Trick or Treat, supported by our PSA and Primary teachers last October 31. Some of our dear student trick-or-treaters came all the way to DIS, following safety protocols and wearing their lovely costumes, to gather treats from our faculty and staff.

ASAC AND EVENTS 10
Last October 31, the Halloween Drive Thru started at exactly 8am. Teachers, faculty and staff who were at school were all excited to see the students. From the main gate, there were four different stations where they could get their treats. However, in order to go to the second station, students need to pass by a dim tunnel in which they were greeted with some silly- scary performance from our maintenance team. At the first station, students were given a pen and a notebook. They were also able to get some gummies and chocolates in the second station, while they received some biscuits and juice in the third station. For the last station, they were given some milk and assorted treats donated by the parents. There were around 80 students, together with their siblings and cousins, who participated in the drive-thru. The event was also blessed with good weather despite the possible landfall of the typhoon.
It was a remarkable and memorable day since this is the first time the students visited the school after the quarantine was implemented as they waved hello to their teachers. Fortunately, there are still countless ways to celebrate this event to make Halloween great. Until then, Happy Halloween!

ASAC AND EVENTS 11
SECONDARY SCHOOL GHOSTLY GATHERING
ONE NIGHT ULTIMATE WEREWOLF
The program started with a game which is called One Night Ultimate Werewolf which is a game for 3 players and above and each player is dealt a secret role. Some of these roles have special abilities that will help a player in gaining information of finding the werewolf. In the course of only one night and the following morning, the players will determine who among them is a werewolf...hopefully.
CREEPY CRAWLY COSTUME PARTY
The Secondary students and faculty members took over Halloween as they showed their costumes, bringing out their spookiest filters and backgrounds to show that no pandemic is stopping them to celebrate one of the most celebrated events of the year.
