A chat with one of our current Music students, Avery Ditta

Fine Arts Department Chair, Prof. Jill AD: When I first started with her, I could sing, but
Brumer, interviewed Music major Avery Ditta it was so unenjoyable to sing because I like,
about her time here in the Music Department at couldn't breathe right, I was so tense, I was
LSC-Tomball. Here's what she had to say! pushing out every note, it was crazy. But she
taught me that singing is an act of release. She

enjoy singing a thousand times more. I am just

...don't have someone there that's just like,
nonjudgemental, and is kind, and actually
helpful, instead of just being mean... Yeah,
he's just amazing. My piano has gotten so
much better, like, I am starting to play Chopin
and everything and I'm really excited! Yeah,
he's really great.
JB: That's awesome.
AD: Yeah, and then Pop Singers is so much
fun. We are working on jazz harmonies,
which, jazz is like, the hardest genre of music
to do, and it really helps with ear traning, and
is really preparing us for the actual outside
world when it comes to theatre and singing,
because, they, like, give you a piece, and you
have to be able to learn it like that, so you've
got to have a really good ear. So ear training
of course is extremely important.
JB: I was going to ask... what are going to do
with all this amazing training that you've
taken? What are your plans for your future?
AD: Well, I've already been able to do some
pretty crazy things. A lot of my peers have
been able to too. I went to the Kristin
Chenowith Boradway bootcamp, and, I got to
perform for a bunch a famous people, people
who have been on Broadway... we're getting
to work with those types of people through
Dr. Morales' help. Because she helped me
completely to prepare for that audition. Yeah,
there's just a lot of huge opportunities here.
Like I sang in the"Astonishing" song [pictured
below], we may be small, but we have giant
things going on."
