About Our Honorees

Joshua F. Alloy
Joshua Alloy of Arnold & Porter, is one of the top rated Employment and
Labor attorneys in Washington, DC. Alloy earned his JD in 2001 from the
University of Pennsylvania, cum laude, where he was elected to the Order
of the Coif, received the M.H. Goldstein Memorial Prize for Labor Law, and
served as Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.

Berena Cabarcas
Principal Berena Cabarcas graduated from Columbia College. She first
joined the International high school community as a teacher at Manhattan
International High School in 1997. In 2005, she was selected as the Principal
of International Community High School which opened in the fall of 2006.
Under her leadership, the school has increased access to computer science
programming, internships, arts, and college preparatory courses, as well as,
developed accelerated English literacy programs for students entering with
academic skills below grade level in their home language.

Moses McCarter
A South Bronx native, Moses “Bronx” McCarter began his studies in the Afro-
Brazilian martial art of capoeira in Brazil. After three years of full time study
he began sharing the art form as an artist in residence at The Bronx Academy
of Arts and Dance, offering sliding scale classes in the heart of Hunts Point.
Shortly thereafter he also began his residency as a teaching artist with BAE
offering movement, music, martial art, and cultural expression principles of
capoeira in various public schools throughout the Bronx.

About BAE

Bronx Arts Ensemble brings the power of the arts to neighborhoods across
the Bronx through its live music and arts education programs. It presents
over 50 live concerts annually to more than 35,000 people, featuring diverse
cultures, including classical, Latin, Afro-Cuban, and other world music. BAE’s
arts education programs have served over 100,000 Bronx students since
1993 through multi-disciplinary artist residencies during school hours, after-
school, and through summer activities that culminate in original auditorium
programs and in-school gallery exhibits.
