PRESS RELEASE
TIM abolishes differential charging of calls between
carriers and reshapes phone plans
For the first time, the company launches new prepaid plans, control-plans and postpaid
plans simultaneously, and provides much more Internet data and no limits for calls,
affordable to all.
Mobile Carrier adapts its portfolio to country’s status quo and provides options for
brazilians to save without the need for more than one SIM card.
Rio de Janeiro, October 30, 2015 – Amidst a challenging scenario, brazilians are doing what they can
to spend less. TIM understood this moment and takes the lead again, completely reshaping its portfolio
of discounts. The main change is the end of differential charging of calls to other carriers in all mobile
plans – a move that could finish the habit of using more than one SIM card to save on calls, as
customers may speak as if they were all in a single community.
“We are doing away with the last barrier of mobile phone service, which is the high cost of calls to
other carriers for prepaid or control plans. Today, the average value of a call between different carriers
R$ 1.50, forty times more expensive than an intra-network call – a price too high for the Brazilian
moment. Consumers are doing what they can to save and the carrier has to do the same. Our customers
will have a much better experience, no longer having the inconvenience of having to keep more than one
SIM card. It no longer will be necessary to worry about recording the names of relatives and friends in
the phone book with the 'surname' being their phone carrier. This is a revolution in mobile phone service.
And, once again, TIM is leading this revolution,” explains Rogerio Takayanagi, CMO of TIM Brazil.
TIM sought detailed understanding of the needs and usage habits of each type of consumer to offer
the best portfolio. Thus, in all ways, it now has the cost-benefit in the market, with larger calling and data
plans and allowing customers to pay less. Beyond the end of differentiated charging on calls – the calling
minutes available for prepaid, control and postpaid plans are good for local calls and for long distance
(using code 41), whatever the call-receiving carrier may be. TIM also bets on generous discounts on its
internet service, with more data to suit the growing need of Brazilians to always be connected.
In the prepaid segment, from R$ 7 for seven days, customers get 100 minutes in calls to any number
in Brazil, 150 MB of internet data and unlimited SMS. For Control plans – which have fixed price per
month, no surprises in the bill – it is possible to purchase, for example, 1GB of internet data and sending
messages on WhatsApp without discounting one’s data allowance, 500 minutes to any carrier and 500
SMS for R$ 50 monthly. Incoming calls outside the home state are no longer charged, which allows for

even more savings. The user also receives R$ 5 in credits to keep on calling even if their regular credits
run out.
Postpaid-plan customers now rely on a 1000-minute calling plan to any carrier for local and long-
distance calls (using code 41). So, one can call all mobile and landline numbers in Brazil, a change that
leverages long-distance, including calls to numbers from other carriers in other states in the plan. The
most affordable offer brings, in addition to the calling minutes, 2GB of data for free internet sharing with
up to three TIM SIM Cards and unlimited SMS for R$ 99 monthly. Incoming calls outside the state are
also included in the postpaid plan.
Check out all the new portfolio options below:
PREPAID PLANS
In the TIM PREPAID 150 plan, the customer gets: 100 calling minutes to any carrier + 150 MB +
unlimited SMS to any operator for R$ 7 good for seven days.
In the TIM PREPAID 300 plan, the customer gets: 100 calling minutes to any carrier + 300MB +
unlimited SMS to any operator for R$ 10, good for seven days.
In both prepaid plans, renewal is recurrent, in case the customer has credits. Upon running out of
available minutes in the plan, the client has two options: to pay R$ 0.25 per additional minute or to
purchase 50 additional minutes for R$ 4 (good for seven days). In terms of internet data usage, there is
a lockdown when the plan runs out of available data. Then, the customer has the option to pay R$ 0.99
per day usage, with a limit of 50 MB daily, or to purchase 150 additional MB for R$ 3, good for seven
days.
CONTROL PLANS

carrier (local and long-distance calls using code 41) + 500 MB of internet data + WhatsApp without
discounting data allowance + 500 SMS + R$ 5 in credits for R$ 35 monthly. (*to be launched by the end of
the month)

In Control plans, incoming calls outside the home state are not discounted from the credits, an
innovation in the market for the benefit of customers. The use of WhatsApp is not deducted from the
data allowance and the customer gets 3GB per month to send text messages, images, audio, and
videos. Charging of plans is made directly to the credit card.

of-state incoming calls, two major changes made by the company. Therefore, the customer does not
have to worry who’s calling and from where. There will be three new plans with data allowances ranging
from 2GB up to 6GB.
