Indigo-Dyed Weaving Group
Sakon Nakhon natural indigo is an ancient wisdom of the community for longtime. It is knowhow
to make indigo from nature by using plants such as indigo and tree bark. The indigo-dyed fabric group at
Ban Undong-NongChaiwan started gathering to make indigo since 2002 and was registered as an
OTOP product in 2004 with 20 initial members until now the group has recently 40 members. The production
policy of the group is to make indigo-dyed fabrics the natural dyeing process and non chemicals.
Sakon Nakhon natural indigo fabric has been registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) from the
Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce in 2006.
At present, the Ban Undong-NongChaiwan Indigo Dye Weaving Group Community Enterprise
is a learning center for weaving indigo dyeing fabrics. It is outstanding in terms of making indigo-dyed
fabrics that are produced on the basis of conservation of natural resources in the community.
The wisdom of dyeing process has been passed down from generation to generation for
many periods. The stripes are unique and different from product of other communities. The namely
stripe of pattern such as “Lai Kred Tao” and "Lai Kred Lan" are unique product of community. Tourists
entering the community will see the process of weaving Indigo dye starting from the process of
producing indigo meat or the primary color for dyeing fabrics. Process of cotton rolling, dyeing, drying,
spinning ties until weaving. The visitor will closely touch the way of life of Ban Undong-Nong Chaiwan
community. Moreover, the indigo-dyed weaving group of Undong-NongChaiwan also transforme their
community products to have a modern design that meets the needs of consumers. including clothes,
apparel, bags, ornaments and home decorations can be unique and interesting. Tourist can purchased

processing betel nuts or Mak Mao Berry which is a local fruit planted in the geographical area of
Sakon Nakhon Province. The first product is Mao Luang wine (alcoholic) legally permitted by the Excise
Department. Mr. Kriengkrai Naksawat is a manufacturer, experimenter, tester who is known in the business
as Mak Mao Wine Maker expertise in the production of beverages from betel nut with his learning and
experimenting with wine making almost 20 years, of recognition in the Mak Mao industry. Sakon Nakhon
Winery release betel nut and other local fruits consumers and expanding business for more than 20 years.

Nong Sung's Fermented Mud Cloth Mukdahan
With the fertile area of Nong Sung with rich in mineral for both water and forest,
the soil is very good with fine mud. “Phu Thai” people in Nong Sung District ,therefore,
try to bring the fabric fibers that have been dyed with natural plants to ferment in mud
before being woven. The colors are soft and bright different from fabrics that are woven
without mud fermentation. The popular woven are shawl and scarf which are able to add
warmth to the body. Because the mud has a special softness gives a soft touch and well
absorb sweat. Nong Sung's Fermented Mud Cloth are produced from the combination
of unique local hand woven which use natural color in dyed process together with mud

Mudmee Thai Silk” is woven under a new way of material management

the waste material from the production process to Zero Waste. We are

Chaloem Phrakiat pattern” which is natural dye from bio-fermented

with Eatable color”. The project is the cooperation of government and
private sector and also educational institutions in driving development

since 1984 by Mr. Boonmee Namwong who went to study
tour in the pomelo orchard at Sampran District Nakhon Pathom
Province. He bought the Thongdee pomelo from the area and

Ubon Ratchathan Province where 3,000 years old prehistoric paintings
have been found at Pha Taem, is located in the easternmost part of Thailand.
In Khong Chiem District , we found a drawing of a "plowing buffalo" that is the
evidence that this area is the oldest rice cultivation of the world. At present,
the main occupation of the population is agriculture or farming.
In 1981, the Department of Agricultural Extension has officially promoted
the cultivation of Hom Mali Rice in Ubon Ratchathani Province. Therefore, the
cultivation area has been expanded to cover all districts together with growing
sticky rice for consumption and Hom Mali Rice for selling to market. From 1982
to the present, there is a contest of Hom Mali Rice in the Red Cross Festival,
to promote Hom Mali Rice and also to encourage farmers to improve the quality
of Hom Mali Rice to response the market demand for both domestic and foreign
markets. Ubon Ratchathani Hom Mali Rice unique specification are distinctive
fragrance, white and long grains and shiny. Because of its quality,Ubon Ratchathani
Hom Mali Rice grown in the provincial area of Ubon Ratchathani has been certified
for Geographical Indication Standard (GI) by the Department of Intellectual Property,

Kaow Hom Mali and the Korkor 15 variety that are planted in the farming
season on the area Buriram volcanic soil which is a
Din Phu Koo Fai characteristic of the area. It covers an area of 7 districts
of Buriram Province including Chaloem Phrakiat, Huai Rat,
Buriram Rice Prakhon Chai, PaKham , Nang Rong, Mueang Buriram
and Lahan Sai District.
The outstanding feature of the soil is that the appropriated
phosphorus content at the level of 17-29.7 mg/kg and the amount
of potassium is at the level of B 13-208.8 mg/kg which is appropriate
for the cultivation of Hom Mali Din Phu Koo Fai Rice. Our rice will
have special character such as long grains, shiny, with good fragrant

“Ban Mueang Luang”
is a 200 year old village and later established as Huay Tub Than District. “Pha Mai
Kep Ban Mueang Luang” production started from planting mulberry silk, then take the
silk threads to peel the glue and weaving it into a cloth and forming a pattern. It is woven
from the carving pattern of the bell tower in the village, which is shaped like a
Lai Luk Kaew pattern that is called "Yei" or "Kep" or "Lai Luk Kaew", it has a natural
yellow-white color fabric texture.
“Pha Mai Kep Ban Mueang Luang” is the most famous silk of Huay Tub Than
District. Characteristics of product is a silk woven from a local style, woven in a pattern,
known in the local area as “Yei” pattern (The method to weave silk, use your feet to
step on the wood below the woven fabric to pull each bobbin to form a string) and
also “Kep” pattern (creating patterns in the fold) or "Lai Luk Kaew", patterns
(The name of the cloth pattern is a square shape with small and large dots scattered
throughout the fabric). Silk is dyed with natural ebony which is abundant in Ban Mueang
Luang area and bake with local herb that give a long-lasting aroma. The popular style
of clothing is Khmer style that is stitched by inserted with silk threads of various colors,
various patterns, called “Chew”.
The producer of “Pha Mai Kep Ban Mueang Luang” are on Ban Mueang Luang
Subdistrict, Huay Tub Than District Srisaket province where there are silk plantation
and production in almost every houses of Moo. 1,2,3,4,6,7,8 and 10 of the village.
