In the first and second sets of the game, the Green Tigers unleashed an unstoppable display of coordination and spikes, leaving the Golden Eagles with a silver medal and a final score of 21-13, 21-9 in consecutive sets. Reymar Nevado attributed their success to proper training and deep trust between him and Baladad, even in high-pressure situations. Despite having limited preparation time, their motivation stemmed from a desire to retain the title they had won the previous year. “Fulfilling kasi iyong sinet naming goal ay na-achieve namin. Actually, I asked and begged Reymar and Rico to defend the title, and I’ll consider that as my graduation gift, and they didn’t let me down,” Baladad shares after the victory. As an underdog non-SCUAA team facing SCUAA-heavy teams, the journey to claim the title was not easy for the CBA batters. Facing last year’s runner-up in their first game, the Green Tigers suffered a devastating 0-8 loss at the hands of the CCJE Bulldogs. After the defeat from bulldogs, Green Tigers once again battled out with the team of Blue Jaguars headed by Julius Rojas, team captain of TSU Baseball and nearly claimed the win but still fell short in low scoring, 0-2. Despite being winless, the CBA Green Tigers focused on their remaining game against the CCS Red Hawks. It was a slow start for the Tigers as the Red Hawks outscored them 4-5 in the first inning. The Green Tigers took the momentum in the second inning, scoring 7 runs to take the lead before the last inning. Senior players Joe Francis Rallo, team captain and shortstop, Romson De Leon, catcher, and Rence Cabrera, outfielder, each tallied 2 points, while Jayson Balaba, first baseman, Noel Domingo, pitcher, Errold Quijano, third baseman, Charlie Sebastian, outfielder, and JL Figueroa, outfielder, contributed one point each. The Red Hawks attempted a late comeback, scoring one run in the second and third innings each, but it was not enough to secure a win over the Green Tigers, who prevailed 11-7. The game officially concluded when Balaba successfully executed the third out against the Red Hawks with a hidden ball trick. Amidst the thunderous roars in the oval, various sprinters strode, jumpers soared through the air, and throwers propelled shots with great distance as athletes from different colleges at Tarlac State University (TSU) unleashed their spirit in the field of athletics. Throwing Prodigy: Feliciano Bags Gold and Silver After propelling the shot with a powerful throw and executing a graceful rotation through the air, CJ Francis Feliciano clinched gold and silver medals in the Men’s Shot Put and Men’s Discus Throw, respectively. “Hindi ko ine-expect na makaka dalawang medalya ako since alam ko po na malalakas ang kalaban. Dahil doon feel ko na hindi ako makakasungkit ng medalya,” Feliciano shared. Villamor efforts bear fruit at Trackand-field tilt With rigorous preparation, Cyrus Erise Villamor claimed a silver medal in the Men’s 5000m category, completing 12 laps, and also snatched a bronze medal in the 1500m men’s category. “I’ve undergone a continuous training program, all tailored specifically for distance running. The preparation began way back in July 2020. Now in my 4th year, it’s nice to rekindle my love for this sport in my first and last appearance at the university intramurals,” Villamor remarked on how he conditioned himself before the intramurals. Victory Through Strategy: Mata and Damot Secure More Wins Christian Mata secured bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m Men’s categories. “Hindi maiwasan yung kaba, halos yung katawan ko nanginginig before the starting game yun. After the whistle, makakalimutan mo naman yung kaba, dahil para sa akin iniisip ko yung line,” Mata shared how he felt during the sprint. Moreover, Donnalyn Damot in the Women’s category also bagged two bronze medals in both the 1500m and 3000m categories. “Naging mahirap para sa akin yung training since two trainings ako (futsal at athletics). Dinadagdagan ko na lang yung sa jogging in every laps,” Damot stated. Tiger’s mix and women’s relay waves silver baton Sprinting prowess and unparalleled teamwork propelled the CBA Green Tigers to silver medals in both the 4x400m mixed and the 4x100m women’s relays. Bredgitt Kyle Pimental, along with Luke Ruiz, Irish Yraid Lugtu, and Ariel Galang, nabbed the silver medal in the 4x400m mixed relay. Additionally, Pimentel participated in the 4x100m women’s relay alongside Precious Adviento, Devine Payanay, and Ayonna Ramil. Pimentel shared that in the category of 4x100m women’s, the tigress’s baton passing in second is important, where Ayonna, the Women’s athletics captain assigned players who exhibited speed on both curve and straight 100m. Ramil propels high at jump events Despite experiencing two defaults, Ayonna Ramil continued to excel, successfully landing silver and bronze medals in the women’s long jump and triple jump categories. The athletics team captain, Ramil, acknowledged shortcomings in the athletes’ preparations due to personal and academic reasons. “Nagkulang ako sa kanila since malapit na SCUAA so walang full time sa training pero nakabawi naman ako sa kanila sa second week, nagbigay ako ng workouts para ayusin, kaso (may athletes na may) ojt and di nagkakasama sa iisang workout kaya naiiwan sila.” Together with Ayonna Ramil, who is already an SCUAA player for jumps and sprints, CJ Francis Feliciano (throws), and Ariel Galang, Christian Mata, and Bredgitt Kyle Pimentel (athletics sprints), were successfully scouted as the athletes who will participate in the upcoming SCUAA 2024. Despite the challenges in preparation, the CBA Green Tigers significantly contributed to the overall points tally of the college, demonstrating resilience and dedication throughout the competition. Green Tigers haul 5 medals in Boxing Tourney Maria Nicole Anne Mañalac Solid punches and aggressive attacks enabled the CBA Green Tigers to knuckle down elimination and final bout, hauling 1 gold, 2 silvers, and 2 bronze medals in the Boxing Tournament held on April 17-18 at TSU Hotel, Lucinda Campus. Although receiving bruises and painful hooks, the CBA Boxing team stayed positive to condition themselves with the inevitable physical contacts. Karlos Raul Fajardo, CBA Boxing gold medalist, said that although there is slight pressure, playing with the CBA paid them with pride and confidence despite the powerful punches of their opponent. “Napakasaya sa pakiramdam dahil nakasali ako sa TSU 2024 Intramurals. Masaya na may kaunting kaba. Solid CBA!,” Fajardo, a gold medalist, exclaimed with a victorious smile. If this is true, those charged with governance must be held accountable for this blatant negligence at hand. It is an unwritten rule that in any sport, not only players are required to practice and fortify their mental fortitude and physique to endure the strenuous demand of sports activities but also to secure finances that might be deemed vital for their needs. Thus, keeping the high morale of players has become significant in achiev- ing victories despite the searing heat that seemed intolerable and unsafe for their health. However, the Intramurals ‘24 says different from what is expected. Contrary to the expectation of students-athletes, P600-P800 allowance will only be distributed for them from a P2,000 pesos that was later also reduced to P1,300, distressing student-athletes on their out-ofpocket expenses, including their jerseys, transportation, and food that are much higher that their expenses. More so, that the Supreme Student Council (SSC) have failed to meet the expectations from last year’s intrams according to the latest survey conducted by The Work, the official student publication of Tarlac State University. Notwithstanding that the schedules and venues are also a complete mess. College Student Council (CSC), on the other hand, have the scenario out of their control with the incompetence of SSC to cause the delay, even failing to process the papers. Idle and ineffective leadership is a hypocrisy masked with promises that once uttered during elections. This questions the leadership of the SSC President Charles Terenz Fernandez, prioritizing volleyball among all other much more important documents - ineffectively impotence and disappointing. How this supposed busiest celebration in TSU became a calamitous event where the highest governing body, SSC, most specifically the SSC President remains ‘nonchalant’ of these issues? Clearly, it is displeasing for all the students, athletes, facilitators and organizations who fully commit themselves in trying to take pride in their colleges, unfortunately, being abandoned in times like this event where the highest governing body, SSC, most specifically the SSC President remains ‘nonchalant’ of these issues? Clearly, it is displeasing for all the students, athletes, facilitators and organizations who fully commit themselves in trying to take pride in their colleges, unfortunately, being abandoned in times like this. In the recent statement published by the SSC, it was explained that the executives of SSC have talked to the TSU administration to address the budget constraint. However, if only the SSC became more transparent with the CSCs, they could have found ways to devise the situation with their resources and did not believe that the funds are already approved and awaits to be received, compromising the athletes. Be that as it may, it is but the duty of the SSC, especially its president to holistically approach the intramurals with sufficiency, competence and meeting the needs and expectations of students and athletes. RISE as the constellation theme of this year’s intramurals should enliven its core objectives not fall underneath contrary to its goal. Unless, these nonchalant leadership persists SSC should better their alibis for students to find it convincing, at least.

INTRAMURALS 2024 The College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) Football Team, led by team captain and goalkeeper Ralph Andreus Ines, successfully dodged the College of Criminal Justice Education’s offenses during their last Men’s Football Game, which commenced on April 20, culminating in a bronze medal finish with a score of 3-2. The team maintained a steady performance from day one with continuous win streaks until they faced COS and CCJE, with both matches ending in draws during the eliminations. In the semi-finals, they were unable to defend against the College of Engineering Maroon Sharks and lost 1-0. The team supposedly had a game plan which miserably failed. “Yung semis namin against COE, nag-adjust kami kasi more on offensive team sila, naging defensive kami,” the team’s goalkeeper, Ralph Andreus Ines, shared in an interview. Despite their efforts and strategic planning, the CBA team let a single goal slip through, which cost them a shot at the finals. However, the CBA qualified to fight for bronze where they, once again, faced the CCJE Bulldogs in the elimination round that ended with a clean no-score draw. The Green Tigers refused to let history repeat itself. Through determined efforts and critical plays, they clinched victory and secured their place on the bronze podium, effectively denying CCJE a podium finish. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat lalo na kay Lord dahil walang na-injured at nasaktan sa amin. Sa mga nanuod lalo na sa mga teachers, students and s’yempre sa mga alumni na sumuporta sa amin. Thank you din sa parents and girlfriend ko na nanunuod pa kahit malayo and mainit sa TRP. As a senior nagpapasalamat ako sa buong CBA community sa walang sawang suporta,” he shared a heartfelt message to those who supported the team through this win. Ines ended the interview with a promise, “babawi ang CBA next year. WE WRITE TO EXPRESS, NOT TO IMPRESS the Blaze 12 Radiating poise and brilliance, College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) representatives Anne Madelaine Rodriguez and Baron Lumogdang brought home 1st and 2nd runner up crowning titles, respectively, at the Coronation Night of Mr. & Ms. Intramurals ‘24, held at TSU Gymnasium on April 20. Additionally, Mr. CBA Intramurals ‘24, Baron Lumogdang, received sponsor awards such as Mr. Barbie Cares Aesthetic Center and Mr. Espasyo. “In what ways do you believe beauty pageants and sports are coexistent, and how can the values and principles from each domain complement one another?” Mr. Lumogdangv: “Well I believe that beauty pageants and sports coexist with each other, for example in beauty pageants, there’s always winners and losers, and same with sports. But I believe that as individuals we should have this aspect of sportsmanship and camaraderie that regardless of what the result of each result for example in pageant, the result is not what you expected. Same with sport, I believe that we should still head up high and we should accept this because I believe that this will make us even a much better and a much stronger person, and right now if I am not one of the winners I would be accepting with it and hope that I will inspire others to do same — to accept defeats, because this will make us evolve, become a better person, for us to become a stronger person. Thank you.” Ms. Rodriguez: “As a beauty queen, I believe that greatness exists in every individual, you just have to let it rise and let it out. Pageants as well as sports are both relevant to each other in that every platform we can spread our words as well as our advocacy for the betterment not only of our university, but also for our society. And as a role model, we should always practice the principles of integrity, honesty, as well as the responsibility, because those three will always lead us to the right places, and with that — thank you so much.” Meanwhile, Mr. & Ms. CBA Intramurals ‘24 did not disappoint as they showcased remarkable craftsmanship in their Theme Wear Attire. While falling short of the championship trophy, the Green Tigers’ fourth-place finish is still commendable, and the team will look to build on this performance to challenge for the title again next year.
