SHARKS
BY: OLIVIA SEIM
BULL SHARK
• From 7’ long to about 12’ long.
• Bull sharks are aggressive and common.
• They live near highly populated areas, like tropical shorelines.
• They are considered one of the most dangerous sharks in the world.
• They get their name from their short, blunt snout, and their tendency to head-butt their prey
before attacking it.
• They are grey on top, and white below, and the tips of their fins are dark, especially on young
sharks.
• They will et almost anything they see, including fish, dolphins, and even other sharks.
• Humans are not on their menu, but they might attack a human inadvertently, or out of
curiosity.
GREAT WHITE SHARKS
• From 15’ long to about 20’ long.
• Great White sharks are the largest predatory fish on Earth.
• They are NOT mindless killing machines.
• Even though 1/3, to even 1/2 of the annual shark attacks are from Great Whites, humans are
not on their menu.
• When they attack, they are most of the time only “sample-biting”, and then releasing their
victims.
• They are grey on top, but get their name from their bright white underbelly.
• They have up to 300 serrated, triangle shaped teeth.
• They are found in cool, coastal waters around the world.
GOBLIN SHARK
• These sharks are rarely found dead, much less alive.
• They live on the bottom of the ocean, and feed on creatures down there.
• Since they don’t like sunlight, they are sometimes called “Vampire Sharks”
• They are a pale grey color, with a pinkish white belly.
• The pink belly is due to the skin being so transparent, you can faintly see the organs inside.
MEGALODON
• It is a prehistoric shark
• Unlike other prehistoric creatures, fossils of the Megalodon can be found all around the world.
• It went extinct about 2 million years ago.
• The cause of its extinction is still unknown today.
• Their teeth were about 7 inches long. (18cm)
• They had 46 teeth
• An estimated guess is that they could have reached up to 25 meters long.
