The Korea soul food
(Pork soup & rice)
In cold winter, in the mornings in Korea, we eat rice with warm soup
and start our day with stability.
So our tour decided to eat pork soup for the first time in Korea to
experience this culture.
As you can see in the picture, travelers who come here alone can enter
without any pressure and eat a bowl of warm soup.
Let me introduce you okdongsik.

Riding the subway in Seoul is an easy, fast, and efficient way to move around the city. The
entire system is in both Korean and English, making it very simple for English speakers to use.
There are two types of subway card, T-money, and disposable ticket. However, single-use
transportation ticket is highly efficient for foreigners. There are some steps to use this ticket.
Single use transportation ticket
Select your destination on the single-
use transportation ticket dispensing
machine and pay the transportation fee
and a deposit (500 KRW) to be issued
a single-use transportation ticket.
Contact the single-use transportation
ticket on the metro entry reader located
on the right side of a turnstile.
You will be refunded the deposit (500
KRW) after you insert the single-use
transportation ticket into a deposit
refund machine upon exit.
If you need to transfer to another subway
line, please ascertain the correct transfer
station. You can easily get to the platform of
a transfer station by following the signs
marked “Transfer” and “Direction to
Transfer. ”You can transfer without having
to pass through any turnstiles so you do not
need to buy a separate ticket for transfer
You can transfer from subway to bus, bus
to subway, or bus to bus up to 5 times for no
additional basic fare. Make sure to transfer within
30 minutes after scanning your transit card (an
hour from 9pm to 7am) at the exit of the last
station or bus.

my favorites is Tongin Market. The small arcade market, is that you can exchange 5,000 won for a

you have visitors.
One of the things you have to try at Tongin market
is their special crispy fried ddeokbokki, it comes in
two ways, spicy and non spicy. Spicy ddeokbokki
is based with gochu paste, and non spicy
ddeokbokki is soy sauce. Therefore, you can
choose what you like to eat.
There is also an incredible array of banchan style
dishes, they have almost everything you could imagine
and more. One of the famous thing is Jeon: the
vegetables, and patty coated with egg. There are
numerous varieties, like pepper jeon, pork meat jeon,
filleted fish jeon, sesame leaf jeon, and with the coin
system you can just pick out what you want.
There is also a lot of fried chicken on the stalls so if you
haven’t had chance to try Korean fried chicken yet then this
is a great place to try it.
You must not miss
Ddeok-Galbi also. It means ‘chewy patty like a rice
cake’. However, ddeok-galbi in Tongin market has a real
rice cake inside of the patty. The patty is marinade with
sweet soy sauce, thus you will surely like it. Don’t forget
to order this gorgeous Korean style patty.
If you are planning to eat your lunch box at the
market, there is a seating area in the middle of
the market, just above where you buy the
lunchbox. If not just tell one of the stores you
want your food to go and they will wrap it up for
you, and will even give you chopsticks.

RESEARCH INSTITUTE :
TRADITIONAL KOREAN CULTURE
Onjium, which means ‘creating completely,’ finds the wisdom
behind the basics in life--clothing, food, and housing--through
tradition. Its philosophy is “to keep the present righteous and
complete based on old materials.” This is the best term that allows
you to ‘make’ clothing, rice, and housing.
Onjium first opened as the Traditional Culture Research Center that
is affiliated with Hwadong Cultural Foundation in June 2013, and
has succeeded in modernizing the value and spirit reflected in the
traditional Korean culture. It was originally under the same roof as
Areumjigi Foundation, but it moved to a larger venue in
Changseong-dong last summer. Onjium’s determination to study
tradition and deliver it to present generations is growing more
sturdily in the new space that is calling for bigger challenges.
Onjium’s space is divided into different sections for clothing, food,
and housing studies. The Clothing Studio, Food Studio, and
Housing Studio focus on the traditional Korean culture represented
by Hanbok, Hansik, and Hanok, respectively
The studios are led by the chiefs who are experts
in history and theories, and are run by chiefs and
members with 10 or more years of hands-on
experience. The lobby on the first floor is for
studies and implementations of everything
about life. Interesting projects of Onjium are
turned into exhibitions that blend with various
genres of art, cooking classes where tasty
recipes are shared, and discussions where
Onjium researchers actively share knowledge
If you go down a level, you will find the Housing Studio.
Onjium conducted studies and restored traditional
Korean houses, and worked on building Korean houses
that suit modern lifestyles. Its passion is reflected in the
enormous piles of resources and books that have filled
an entire wall.
The Clothing Studio is on the second floor. This place
showcases traditional Korean costumes based on
historical resources from the Age of the Three Empires,
and reproduces traditional outfits based on the said
They also make modern Hanbok that can be worn every
day. The Guui and Baeja exhibited in the Clothing Studio
are so modern that you cannot even believe that they are
traditional designs from the past. Elaborate sewing
techniques and structural designs evoke timeless beauty.
When you step onto the 4th floor, mouth-watering
flavors will be greeting you at the Food Studio. The Food
Studio features timetested recipes throughout Korea.
Also, native ingredients grown in Korean soil are used in
traditional recipes to create tastes that are familiar to us,
yet are completely different. Onjium’s Food Studio
Restaurant used to have only one table, but is now
serving more guests with more tables on hand. You can
relive a special moment countless times, as you look out
on the open view of Gyeongbokgung Palace while
indulging in the flavors of the season. I thought of how
you should ‘live’ life while I was at Onjium. It is hard to
produce anything perfectly, but beauty lies in how you
endure and overcome hardships.

Euljiro’s nogari alley
Brings life to aging hood
M-- any shops and restaurants in central Seoul get ready to
close at around 6 o’ clock in the evening, but not here in Euljiro,
south of the Cheonggye Stream in central Seoul. Walk deeper
into the alleyways selling tools, hardware and electric gadgets,
and you’ll find yourself among an impressive array of people
sitting outside at bright red plastic chairs and tables adorning
the streets. Those sitting at the tables range from young
couples, friends, people dressed in suits, who have obviously
just left the office, and senior citizens.
While it might appear that they are there for different reasons,
those who visit this part of Euljiro at this time are all there for
the same thing - to enjoy a pint of cold beer with nogari, or
dried young pollock fillets, usually grilled over charcoal..
The street is easily accessible by public transport, with the
Euljiro 3-ga station for both line 2 and 3 only a block away.
Prices are low, considering that the pubs are located in the
center of the city. Usually a nogari fillet is sold for 1,000 won
($0.90), and beers go 3500won for a pint.

Q: Just in your opinion, where is the best place to introduce foreigner tourist as a hidden spot?
A: I think Eulijiro is the best place
A: Eulijiro is one of good places that could experience Korea night culture. You can find lots of interesting pictures
in Instagram about Eulijiro culture. It has own unique concept. I went to Eulijiro last week and ate nogari with beer.
Q: What is the biggest attraction of Eulijiro to foreigners?
A: Everyone there seems free. Even foreigners who came here for the first time will be easy to adjust. And Eulijiro
is the kind of hidden local place which could not find in any traveling magazine. So, I recommend to some travelers
who want to feel local sensibility.

I was nervous because I made a magazine for the first time.
In addition, I felt burdened to take the leadership position. But the
crew was able to follow suit and complete a nice magazine. Thank
you to the crew. It is both satisfying and disappointing. If I can
make another magazine, I'm sure I'll get even better results.
Yoon Byeong Woong (Designer)
I was at a loss for choosing a topic. But after selecting
the subject, it was very interesting. I especially liked the fact
that I could design a magazine myself. I felt a great deal of
value when I read a magazine that was developing as I
modified my design little by little. A little regret remains, but in
general it was a satisfying group activity.
Lee Ye Seo (Writer)
At first, I wanted to make a magazine about the
ingredients. However, there was an opinion to make a magazine
about Seoul. It was quite a novel opinion, and we made a
wonderful magazine on this subject. Especially since I live in
Seoul, it was a familiar topic. In addition, it was a great
opportunity to learn about places I didn't know.
Moon Seong Ho (Editor)
When I came to write a magazine about Seoul, and Jung-
gu, my neighborhood, I was quite happy. It was rewarding that
knowledge I knew helped. I was also very happy to know places
that even I didn't know very well. If I can do this task once more,
I would like to make a plan to travel to more places for a week or
a month instead of a day.
