Chadashos 11.12.21

Chadashos 11.12.21

November 12, 2021 | ‫פרשת ויצא | ח' כסלו תשפ''ב‬

‫בס‘‘ד‬

NOVEMBER 23 A family vacationing in their Catskills summer development received a call from a woman
requesting permission to use the colony swimming pool to teach her teenager a trick at the
Jr. High Parent Teacher bottom of the pool. Permission was granted and, on a sunny Friday afternoon, the woman
Conferences and her daughter entered the pool. She taught her child the trick and, with her mission
6:30-10:00 accomplished, she ascended above the water but thought she noticed something from the
corner of her eye at the bottom of the pool. She descended to the bottom of the pool, saw
•••••• what she later described as “a seemingly lifeless body of a child” and then carried the child
to safety. The three year old child was rushed to the hospital emergency room and,
NOVEMBER 25 miraculously, emerged from the experience unscathed.

Thanksgiving Overwhelmed with gratitude, at the same time on the following Friday afternoon, the
Boys Divisions Only child’s parents hosted a lavish toameha Seudas Hodaah, Friday afternoon thanksgiving
9:00 School Start for Grades 1-4 feast, replete with a musical artist and musician.
7:45 Minyan for Grades 5-6
7:50 M’Dor l’Dor Jr. High It was my good fortune to have been a guest there for that particular weekend and I
12:30 Dismissal for Grade 1-6 couldn’t help but shed tears when the father of the child publicly recounted the frightening
2:10 Dismissal for Jr. High episode and expressed his supreme gratitude to Hashem for a miraculous recovery. The
child’s grandfather followed and remarked that each day we recite the words Ani Maamin, I
•••••• believe, and Modeh Ani, I am grateful. Why wouldn’t the term Ani precede Modeh just as
it does as we recite Ani Maamin? The speaker explained that it would be inappropriate to
NOVEMBER 26 begin one’s day with the word Ani, I, because it is never about one’s self. Rather, we begin
the day uttering the word Modeh, an immediate acknowledgment of appreciation for a
All Divisions Regular Start Higher Authority who has graciously restored our faculties.
K-6 Dismissal at 12:00
In Parshas Vayetzei, when Leah gave birth to her fourth son, she named him Yehuda
Jr. High Dismissal at 12:30 because, in her words, hapaam odeh es Hashem, This time I thank Hashem (29,35). The
Yavne Dismissal at 12:00 Talmud states that no individual thanked Hashem prior to Leah (Talmud Berachos 7B), and
Ksav Sofer questions this. Certainly our patriarchs expressed appreciation to Hashem long
•••••• before Leah did so? Rather, explains Kesav Sofer, those who preceded Leah were
beneficiaries of miracles and felt compelled to thank Hashem accordingly. Leah, however,
DECEMBER 1 was the first to express thanks for a completely natural development. Leah didn’t dismiss
the birth of her fourth son as a natural, thereby taking the joyous development for
Chanukah Delights at 6:45 p.m. granted. She appreciated being a beneficiary of a natural development as much as one
appreciates a miracle.
4:50
Whether we are beneficiaries of a natural development or a miraculous one, we ought to
pause, reflect, acknowledge and appreciate how the particular development has enriched
our life. When we do so, we create a stronger appreciation for life and a more robust bond
with our Creator.

Chanukas HaBayis / Inauguration

A historical morning and a powerful kiddush Hashem!
This past Sunday morning’s inspirational Chanukas
HaBayis and Hachnasas Sifrei Torah reflected the beauty
of our school’s past, present and future. Past, because
of the Academy’s unique history and storied legacy.
Present, because it celebrates the inauguration of a
magnificent, new state of the art makom Torah, and
future, because of the indications for a vibrant, healthy
future for limud haTorah. The large audience filled the
new Freschl Auditorium and hundreds more people
overflowed into the Stone Promenade and outside. Chaired by Dr.
Louis Malcmacher, the audience was addressed by Rabbi Simcha
Dessler; Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetsky and Rabbi Elya Brudny (via video);
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine ( via video); and Mr. David Heller on
behalf of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
Rabbi Eli Dessler recognized The Mandel Foundation with the
dedication of the Simon and Rose Mandel building, which was
accepted by Mr. Stephen Hoffman, and the Knapp family for the
Eliyahu and Masha Knapp Early Childhood, with a response from Mr.
Chaim Bennett. Rabbi Simcha Dessler presented the inauguration of
the Mendy and Ita Klein Campus, which was accepted by Mr. Yoni
Klein on behalf of the Klein
Family. The Hebrew
Academy Boys Choir,
under the direction of
Rabbi Ariel Klein and Rabbi
Shmuel Yaakov Mann, sang
beautifully. Thanks to Clei
Zemer who opened and
closed the program.

Yeshiva Ketana

First grade talmidim in Mrs. Burnstein and Morah Tzippy’s class were very excited to
begin Chumash last week. They went to our new Bais Medrash where Rabbi Newman
showed them a Sefer Torah and they were able to see inside what they would soon begin
learning. May this be the sweet beginning of their limud haTorah!

Rabbi Udman’s sixth grade utilizes the new
Beis Midrash for chavrusah learning (at

The following boys (grades 4-6) received a Keser Shem Tov certificate at
the “Erev” Rosh Chodesh Assembly last Thursday. This award recognized

State Of Ohio Rise Award Nomination

Congratulations to Mrs. Shana Goldberg who received a certificate of nomination for the state of Ohio’s Rise Award.
She was nominated for the 2021 Recognizing Inspirational School Employees (RISE) Award.
When the Academy leadership made the bold decision to maintain in-person school during the pandemic, Mrs. Gold-
berg accepted upon herself to serve as the intermediary between administration, staff, students and medical
guidance. She went above and beyond, sometimes in middle of the night and always with a smile and kind word, to
ensure the safety of staff and students.
Thank you, Mrs. Goldberg!

Yavne High School

Yavne High School’s Adira program focusing on developing the middos essen-
tial for Jewish women and we look forward to enhancing our links in the chain!
Kudos to our talented heads (at left): Elki Baum, Tzipora Perman, Mindy
Platschek and Buvie Meisels at the recent Adira breakout!

Our Shmita program is going strong as the heads prepare for a major fundrais-
er, of which 100% of the profits will go to neshei keren hasheviis. Aside from participating in this mitzvah through financial
support, the shmita program aims to create an understanding of the growth that takes place through this mitzvah. The pro-
gram opened with Mrs. Mitnik (Mrs. S. Kohn’s sister) who gave a live report straight from the airport of what living in Eretz
Yisroel during shmita is like. We were then privileged to hear divrei chizuk from Rabbi Kalish, whose heartfelt words and
practical message helped us to connect to this mitzvah from Cleveland Ohio!

For the G.O. Rosh Chodesh Kislev event, instead of Yavne going on a trip,
the trip came to Yavne! With rented roller blades for each student, the
Yavne gym became a skating rink. What incredible ruach as the girls skated
together, danced to Chanukah music, enjoyed delectable treats and played
rounds of “hot potato” together.

Last year, Devorah Naomi Maimon initiated a
new program in Yavne. Through the program,
Yavne students complete the entire Sefer
Tehillim daily. It was a very meaningful pro-
gram and we are excited to continue this year.
A special thank you to Devorah Naomi and Gitti
Fertig, our Tehillim program heads, for the special opening event. Thank you to Mrs. Hanson for
her very real and inspirational message. As part of this event, Yavne students grades 7-12 com-
pleted Sefer Tehillim six times leiluy nishmas Rebbitzen Miriam Dessler, ‫ע“ה‬.

We are honored to have the privilege of welcoming Rabbi Pesach Krohn to share his signature inspirational words with us.

Jr. High
In conjunction with the Eretz Chemda Shmita program, Yavne 8th grade shmitta
heads, Devorah Bernstein, Kayla Goldish, Adina Klein, Rochel Perman, Shira

Schultz, and Ayelet Stelzer pre-
pared a smashing breakout, per-
forming the shmitta theme song
with motions and serving a fruity
drink and snack as an introduction
to the Zoom video lesson all the
way from Eretz Yisrael. There is
definitely an increased awareness
and appreciation of this special mitzah which our fellow brethren in Eretz Yisra-
el are keeping this year.

Girls Elementary

Mrs. Resnick’s second grade earns class money all month long, which they
collect in their special blue
pouches. Every Rosh
Chodesh the girls get to
participate in a special store,
where they redeem their
dollars for special prizes.
At left: Morah Nechama’s kitah
aleph preforming a parsha play
for the other first graders!

General Studies
Mrs. Dier’s second graders experimented
with the density of hot and cold
colored water concluding hot water is
less dense than cold water!
Mrs. Kirschenbaum’s 3rd graders turned a Journey’s reading story into a hands-on
science experiment! After reading a story about building bridges, they engaged in
a friendly bridge building competition.

Early Childhood

To honor Rebbetzin Miriam Dessler,‫ע"ה‬, we dedicated one of our
bulletin boards in her memory. We chose the following pasuk
from Eishes Chayil: ‫פיה פתחה בחכמה ותורת חסד על לשונה‬.
Rebbetzin Miriam Dessler is remembered for her intelligence,
wise, and professional way of saying things with finesse to
influence her listeners positively. Many of our teachers who

worked for her were happy to jot down their memories. They are
now hanging proudly on this special bulletin board.
Another unique Bulletin board that went up this week is Morah Gitty
and Morah Dena’s bulletin board, which is named:
“Future Leaders of Am Yisrael”. Each child from this class was placed
in a “world” which will iy”H be filled with the child’s mitzva notes as
they continue on their way to becoming our future leaders!!!
