Chadashos 5.24.24

Chadashos 5.24.24

8:29 When Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, zt”l – preeminent gadol hador, spiritual giant of his generation – was asked why he merited longevity, he responded that he had never caused pain to another individual throughout his entire life. In another instance, Rabbi Feinstein traced his resolve to the era of his childhood. Prior to his enrollment in school, where he began the study of Talmud, Rav Moshe’s father had taught him Chumash and he became proficient in the entire Tanach. On the day he entered school, his melamed asked who can read the Talmudic word, itmar. Young Moshe Feinstein raised his hand and, based upon his proficiency in Chumash, mistakenly responded that the word spelled Isamar (the Biblical name Isamar and the Talmudic word, itmar, without nekudos, vowels are spelled identically). His older classmates who had already begun to study Gemara erupted in laughter. Years later, as an adult, Rav Moshe attested that he had learned two lifelong lessons on that day. First, he learned to contemplate each question and to seek insight and understanding from various perspectives, even those previously unfamiliar. Second, the laughter of his peers at his expense caused him such discomfort that he resolved never to embarrass another individual no matter how foolish the individual comes across. I am reminded of a vignette when my Rebbi, Rabbi Shmuel Brudny, zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva, Mirrer Yeshiva responded to a seemingly ridiculous question posed to him by a talmid during an intense shiur. Recognizing the discomfort that the questioner was about to experience, by virtue of the smirks on the faces of a packed room of peers, the Rosh Yeshiva took pains to rephrase the ignorant question by expressing and reiterating in Yiddish, “oh, ihr ment tzu freigen, You mean to ask…” With a heart of gold, unparalleled sensitivity, and a desire to build up his talmidim, Rabbi Brudny both averted an embarrassment and taught a powerful lesson with a single stroke of brilliance. This lesson finds its source in this week’s parsha as the Torah states, Lo sonu ish es amiso, A man shall not wrong his fellow (25,17). The examples of our gedolim are further teachings of how to incorporate the art of sensitivity in our lives. Rav Feinstein teaches us that pain experienced by one’s fellow is real – even if invisible. Rav Brudny further illustrates that sensitive reflection prior to reaction can not only prevent unnecessary pain but transform it into positive encouragement. Let us strive to emulate their noble ways! Have a wonderful Shabbos! | | Early Childhood Our kinderlach have embarked on an exciting journey exploring the wonders of Spring! Each class received a small container with real caterpillars allowing the children to observe, feed, and document their growth and development. The children learned about the fascinating process of metamorphosis, closely monitoring the caterpillars until they transform into butterflies. Once the butterflies emerge, the children will have the opportunity to release them outside and watch them fly away. This week, the children also heard the story of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, and created bonfires, singing and dancing around them. Morah Leah and Morah Rochel introduced their kinderlach to the mitzvah and the concept of Shmita. The kinderlach enjoyed dressing up as farmers, and pretending to work in the fields for six years, and then resting on the seventh year. This hands-on experience provided an engaging way for the children to learn about this special mitzvah. On Wednesday, our preschool had the pleasure of welcoming a group of seminary girls from Toronto. The girls joined our three-year-old classes during story time, where they observed our exceptional facility and talented teachers. The teachers captivated their students (and the seminary girls) with animated and enthusiastic lessons about Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. The girls expressed their admiration remarking on how much they learned about teaching with love and passion in such a short time. They affirmed that their journey from Toronto was well worth the experience! Kindergarten In preparation for Lag B’Omer, Morah Blech and Morah Naomi’s class heard the story of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai hiding from the Romans in the cave in Meron. Then, they each made a diorama of the cave, complete with a paper “mentchie” of Rabbi Shimon and his sefer, the Zohar. On Wednesday, Morah Eiserman and Morah Blumy’s class had a special presentation. Mr. Daniyel Pister, father of Moshe Pister, came dressed in his Hatzalah uniform to speak to the class about Hatzalah and safety. He showed the class some of the equipment they have to use when on a call, and talked to them about different kinds of safety. The class was very excited to learn and participate, and especially about the little “souvenir” that they received, a small First Aid Kit ! Thank you, Mister Pister.

| | Girls Elementary There are many special accomplishments taking place in the Girls Elementary Department! All of our first-grade classes completed their study of Sheishes Yemei Bereishis, and we are amazed at how much they know about each day of creation. A siyum was celebrated with each girl bringing a treat depicting one of the days of the Sheishes Yemei Bereishis. Moros, thank you for helping our students reach this memorable milestone. Mazel tov to Miss Schneider's third-grade on the completion of Parshas Vayeitzei that was marked with a siyum of ice cream sundaes! We introduced our fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classes to a new program, called I-CARE, from the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation. I-CARE stands for “include, cherish and respect everyone.” Each week, the girls will watch a video depicting a different social scenario with our moros following up with questions and discussions in the classrooms. We are off to a great start! Thank you, Mrs. Kulefsky, for coordinating this incredible program. And though we are highlighting these wonderful events, it is equally wonderful to be aware of all the little events and moments taking place each day that make the Girls Elementary program a special place for our talmidos to learn, grow, and thrive. Kindergarten (continued) As a culminating activity for digraph ch, the kindergarteners did a special activity on Fun Friday, painting their own treasure chests. Now they are learning a new digraph, sh. What fun they had in Morah Shuli and Morah Mindy’s class playing a fishing game, and reading all the sh words on the fish that they caught!

| | Girls Elementary (continued) General Studies: Our 6th graders were tasked with ‘improving a standard back pack’ to target a specific need and population, including strategically mapping out a business profit plan and pitching their prototype to a panel of investors. We look forward to sharing the prototypes and ingenious ideas at Sunday’s Student Showcase! Congratulations to our winners! In addition, thank you to our panel of investors: Mrs. Michele Weiss, Mrs. Ahuva Schwager, and Mrs. Chaya Slain. 6th Grade PBL Top 3: 1st place: "Bark Bag" Shaina Ziva Lasky, Rikki Radcliffe, Eliana Wylen, Orli Stern; 2nd place: "Baby Back" Adina Alon, Goldie Schwartz; 3rd place: "Snap-On" Racheli Sochaczewsky, Toby Kramer, Adira Lempel, Basya Katz, Chayala Zabludowski. Girls Elementary Student Showcase: Last Sunday we hosted our annual Student Showcase allowing our students’ innovative and creative work to be displayed for all. The girls beamed with excitement and confidence in their hard work!

| | Yeshiva Ketana Mazel tov to Rabbi Eiserman’s first grade class for making a siyum on Sefer Tehillim. To enhance their Kriah skills, the talmidim took turns each day reading pesukim from each perek. To mark this worthy achievement, Rabbi Charlop visited their classroom and shared with the boys the immense chashivus of Tehillim and how proud he was of their accomplishments. This past Wednesday, we witnessed a riveting battle between Rabbi Janowski’s second grade class and Morah Burnstein’s. Dressed in different colored S.L.A.M. (Shteig, Learn, And Master) T-shirts, specially designed for this occasion, sitting at color coordinated tables, our talmidim dazzled those in attendance with their remarkable fountain of knowledge in Yedios Klaliyos. Rabbi Burnstein alternated between the classes, asking questions, covering a variety of subjects in Yahadus, and giving each student an opportunity to answer. At times, the entire class sang in unison to answer a detailed question with the nigunim they had learned to help them memorize the information. To everyone’s delight, every question was answered correctly and confidently, filling the boys with a tangible sense of pride in their accomplishments. At the end of the competition, with no other recourse, given their extensive and flawless expertise, we declared it a tie. With such heartwarming results, the boys sang and danced together, celebrating their achievement. Thank you Rebbe and Morah for such a wonderful Yedios Klaliyos Bee. It was only possible because you devoted the time, effort, and creativity this entire year, providing our boys with this most wonderful gift of a storehouse of critical Yedios. Mazel tov to brothers, Yitzy and Moshe Kohn of Rabbi Udman’s sixth grade class and Rabbi A.L. Mann’s fourth grade class, respectively. Both of them made a siyum on Maseches Megilah together with their father and shared the simcha with their respective classmates. May their parents continue enjoying such beautiful nachas, and may they continue to grow in limud haTorah. Girls Elementary (continued)

Junior High School In his weekly message to the Junior High, Rabbi Boruch Hirschfeld shared three aspects of Pesach Sheni which was observed this week. First, Pesach Sheni provides a refreshed opportunity of the emunah, bitachon and kedusha imbibed over Pesach. Second, it serves as a reminder that even for a missed opportunity, it is never too late to reconnect with Hakadosh Boruch Hu. Finally, the will power of those who desired to bring a Korban Pesach, despite their exemption, can move mountains. The ambition and drive prevails. On Sunday, Rabbi Shaul Dolinger and his son, Rabbi Avrohom Zelig Dolinger, both from Kiryat Chinuch L’Banim, Ashdod, Eretz Yisrael joined us for Shacharis. An alumnus of our school, Rabbi Avrohom Dolinger addressed the Junior High and shared a story from the Chofetz Chaim about the importance of connecting with Hashem and the opportunities to rise to the occasion. General Studies: This week the seventh grade finished its third week of the first unit of Self-Awareness of the Darcheinu SEL curriculum, endorsed by the Vaad Roshei HaYeshiva of Torah Umesorah. Mr. Mendy Greenberg, Junior High Social Worker, has been going into each 7th grade classroom once a week for half an hour to teach this invaluable addition to our Junior High curriculum. | | Yavne High School Students in the tenth grade have been working on their Chumash research project since winter break. Over the past couple of weeks, students taught what they learned to their classmates. They have done an impressive job learning the meforshim on the various topics and putting everything together in an interesting, easy-to-learn format, and their presentations were excellent! Mazel tov to Rochella Strulowicz, Aura Nahon, Adina Klein, and Basya Greenberger who completed learning the sefer Shabbos In My Soul with Mrs. Roffman in the evenings. To celebrate their siyum, the girls were treated to a trip to Jade for lunch.

Over the years, many seminaries have spent much time observing classes, protocols and programs in our school. This week, the Toronto Seminary visited the Academy for a full day of observations and inspiration. At the Girls Elementary division, 26 seminary students observed classes in session throughout the morning. At the Klein Campus they were addressed by Rabbi Dessler and observed early childhood classes in session. At Yavne High School they were addressed by Mrs. Chaya Gitty Kohn and they enjoyed a delicious lunch. We thank our principals, administrators and teachers at all three campuses who shared their time and afforded our guests this opportunity. PTA Corner Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities: 1.
