Chadashos 9.3.21

Chadashos 9.3.21

September 3, 2021 | ‫פרשת נצבים | כ''ו אלול תשפ''א‬

SEPTEMBER 6 A foreign peasant chanced upon a king who was stranded in the ocean and was about to drown
there. The peasant extended himself magnanimously and provided an unanticipated, albeit
Erev Rosh HaShanah most welcome, lifeline which enabled the king to survive. As an expression of gratitude, the
NO SCHOOL king ordered his savior, the peasant, to be brought to the palace to acquire treasures to his
heart’s delight.
••••••
Due to his limited intellect, and compounded by a language barrier, the peasant simply failed
SEPTEMBER 7-8 to understand the gesture or appreciate the opportunity. He mistakenly believed that he was
the subject of forced labor, a consequence of an alleged perpetrated crime. Alone in a room
Rosh HaShanah filled with exquisite treasures, he deliberately collected few items in slow motion. He left the
NO SCHOOL palace practically empty-handed and foolishly delighted in the fact that he was not forced to
carry heavy items home. It was only after recounting his activities to his friends that he
•••••• realized that he had squandered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

SEPTEMBER 9 Olam hazeh, this world, truly represents our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Tzom Gedalia Pirkei Avos (4,16) states that this world is likened to a corridor entering the banquet hall, the

world, man is brought to judgement in the proximity of G-d, this time reluctantly and
7:37 unwillingly.

Yeshayahu HaNavi stated: Dirshu Hashem b’himatzo krauhu beheyoso karov, Seek Hashem
when He can be found, call upon Him when He is near (Yeshaya 55,6). The Talmud quotes the
pasuk and questions, when is the appropriate time in which Hashem is accessible to the
individual? Rabah Bar Avuha maintains that the Almighty is most accessible during the ten
days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (Talmud, Rosh Hashana 18a).

As we approach the days of awe, there is certainly no better time to reflect upon our
relationship with our Father in heaven and our commitment to the principles of our faith.

We suffer and sustain so many losses. We are witness to tragedies of enormous magnitude.
On this Rosh Hashanah, let us join together in heartfelt prayer and genuine repentance so that
we may merit to be inscribed in the sefer hachaim, the book of life.

This is a unique opportunity which we – individually and collectively – cannot afford to
squander.

Have a wonderful Shabbos and best wishes for a ‫!כתיבה וחתימה טובה‬

Yeshiva Ketana

Our first “new beginning” of the year was our fifth grade talmidim proudly
receiving their Gemara from Rabbi Dessler, Rabbis Newman and their
Rebbeim. To celebrate this important milestone the boys enjoyed a bagel
and cream cheese brunch as well. They have already begun learning Eilu
Metzios in class. May the excitement and hasmada they are displaying for
learning continue and grow!
Mazal tov to these boys on their upsherins this week: Ezra Henfield (in Rabbi
Eiserman’s classrom), Elchonon Kleinberg (in Rabbi Matitia’s classroom),
Nesanel Rais (by Rabbi Eli Newman in Rabbi Sokol’s classroom). As their
excited parents, grandparents and siblings watched, the future talmidei
chachamim tasted the sweet honey on the alef-beis letters that the Rebbi
pointed to. May they continue to be a source of nachas to their families!

Junior High School

Meet The Teachers evening, held this week at our beautiful junior high facilities, was the perfect opportunity for parents to
see and hear what their junior high sons will experience this year. The parents were addressed by Rabbi Yitzchok Kahn,
Dr. Yoel Schwartz and Dr. Sholom Stern who spoke of the philosophy of the school, its goals and programs. Parents clearly
appreciated the opportunity to meet and greet the Rebbeim and General Studies staff and hear about the fabulous,
creative course offerings and programming that will benefit their sons this year. We are delighted to have had an excellent
start to the school year and look forward to a year of bracha, hatzlacha, and mutual nachas!

Kollel Ateres Nochum Zev

Our school based Kollel Ateres Nochum Zev, under the direction of Rabbi Zev Busel, Rosh Kollel, has already begun to im-
pact and influence our junior high talmidim and Yeshiva of Cleveland talmidim. The Kollel yungeleit daven and learn with
the boys and serve as valued mentors to our talmidim, hopefully creating life altering kesharim with them. The Kollel wel-
comes two new Kollel members: Rabbi Moshe Meir Kurtz from Lakewood, New Jersey and Rabbi Aryeh Soroka from
Yerushalayim in Eretz Yisrael.

Girls Elementary

It's hard to believe that a week ago our building was empty. It is now
filled with the sounds of learning and fun.

The girls division is so excited to be spreading out all over the Taylor
Road campus. We are gearing up for our first middos assembly and the
introduction of our theme song after Succos. Meanwhile, we have the
building decorated reflecting our theme of Emes for the coming year.

Yavne High School

Hodu L”Hashem, Yavne got off to a wonderful start. It
was heartwarming to see the return of our enthusias-
tic staff and student body. We look forward to a year
of tremendous hatzlacha, growth, and success in all
areas be’ezras Hashem. A special welcome to our new
students– Tzippy Levy, Rivky Spector, Tzofia Francis,
Michele Linetsky, Rivka Kysil, and Dena Goldberg, We
are fortunate to have join our team as Limudei Ko-
desh staff: Miss Sara Katz, Mrs. Penina Pransky, Mrs.
Bracha Spector, Mrs. Miriam Berman, Mrs. Devorah Goldstein, and Miss Mirel Matitia, and as General Studies staff: Mrs.
Shifra Hanson, Mrs. Shira Goldsmith, Mrs. Heather Amyakar, Mr. Andrew Ditmar, and Mrs. Sharon Goelman.

Our girls are revved up and full of anticipation after the Yavne Jr. High and High school G.O. welcomed our students at ori-
entation with a decorated lobby, a welcome song and accompanying video, and a “suitcase” of treats/jumbo freeze pops.

We are awed and grateful of our partnership with our dedicated parent body. This was clearly evident on Monday night at
the fantastic turnout for the Junior High Meet the Teachers evening. The warmth and positive energy at the informative
orientation was a very meaningful start for a successful school experience. We are also especially appreciative of the gen-
erous response and numerous sponsorships that we received from parents to further enhance our avodas hakodesh.

We are excited to inaugurate a brand new Shmitta program under the
direction of Mrs. Shani Kohn, with the goals of implementing the lessons
of shmitta in our daily lives. In addition, we look forward to partnering
with Keren Hashviis, to support Jewish farmers and their families in Eretz
Yisroel in keeping this treasured mitzvah. We are proud of our talented
student heads, Meira Bressler, Devorah Naomi Maimon, Sarale Rivkin,
and Dafna Stern who performed an original song, distributed bandana
momentos, prepared videos, and shared heartfelt words which really in-
spired us at the breakout. A special thank you to Mrs. Shoshana Chen for
the magnificent shmitta themed display in the Yavne lobby.

Kindergarten

Here at kindergarten we are very busy getting ready for Rosh
Hashanah. All the classes are working hard making beautiful
projects for yom tov! On Friday we enjoyed our Rosh Hashanah
assembly. We got to hear the book Shofy and Blowfy and enjoy a
yummy sweet treat.
We also had a great first week in the afternoon. All the classes are
spending time learning the classroom routine and schedule. We
can’t wait to start learning the ABC.

General Studies

Starting Strong: 4th Grade STEM
Our 4th graders are well underway to exploring and
building their scientific brains already on the 2nd day of
class! Mrs. Durfey’s Science students were challenged to
build the strongest and tallest tower with a few simple,
and yummy, materials. Team work, patience, and trial
and error helped the towers get taller and taller. Great
job, girls!

Early Childhood

‫הודו לה' כי טוב כי לעולם חסדו‬

With heartfelt gratitude, we were
delighted to welcome our Early
Childhood youngsters and their parents
to our state-of-the-art, magnificent,
new Preschool wing at the Academy's
Oakwood Campus. Upon arriving at
school, the children were greeted by
our inflatable dancing characters,
smiling moros, and fun music - “Thank
you Hashem”.
We loved and appreciated watching
the expressions on the faces of
parents and children as they went
about exploring our new facility. In
the words of a delighted group of
mothers; “Wow, this place is
gorgeous, and we feel the positive
and warm
energy
everywhere.
Our children
already feel at
home”!
