Chadashos 4.21.23

Chadashos 4.21.23

7:55 My father, zt”l, was once scheduled to undergo a surgical procedure due to a serious medical concern that had been raised. Needless to say, the family was deeply concerned. Immediately prior to the procedure I received a call from a childhood classmate that I had not been in touch with for decades. His daughter, a student in an Israeli seminary, was at that moment with friends at the Ponevez Cemetery in Bnei Brak where they wished to daven at the grave of my illustrious grandfather, Rabbi Eliyahu E. Dessler, zt”l. However, they could not find the grave site. While providing the directions I seized the opportunity (nothing happens by chance) to ask that the students include my father’s name among their tefilos at the kever. Thankfully, the procedure was successful and our relief was great. While one of life’s true challenges is the acceptance of illness, one of Judaism’s most inspiring strengths is the ability to daven for one another in times of need. In fact, the eighteen brachos of Shemone Esrei — recited three times a day by Jews around the world—are formulated in the plural form, a reminder that we do not only live for ourselves. We live for others. In Parshas Tazria the Torah repeats the commandment of bris milah, circumcision, this time with the additional instruction that it be performed on the eighth day (12,3). The Talmud expounds that it was specifically this commandment—bris milah—that inspired the inclusion of the blessing of Refaenu, “Heal us…,” as the eighth brachah of Shemone Esrei (Megillah 17B). The great Sage, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, zt”l, deliberated over the fact that humanity is challenged and afflicted with myriad diseases, all of which require cures, yet the Talmud limits the prayer of Refaenu to bris milah. The Rav explained: “In the future there will be a world with no transgression and thus without illness. A world without sin and relieved of pain requires healing for bris milah alone. Thus, in anticipation of Moshiach’s arrival, the brachah of Refaenu was instituted as the eighth of the eighteen blessings of Shemone Esrei to correspond to bris milah that is performed on the eighth day. How comforting it is to know that until that time when illness is wiped away we—the Jewish People—are there for one another. And no better example can be provided than Bikur Cholim societies across the globe. Cleveland’s Jewish community is world renown for its compassion, thoughtfulness and seemingly endless resourcefulness. Jews from all over the world come to Cleveland only to find that they are truly among family—even in a strange city in a foreign land. The acts of kindness done in our community are legendary, and in this we are not alone—for this is part of the legacy of kindness bequeathed to us by our forefathers, a quality that resides in the heart of every Jew. The merit of a tzibur—a congregation, a community—has the power to help heal and alleviate pain. But even more comforting is the reality, the great anticipation— the hope—of Moshiach’s imminent arrival when pain and illness will be removed from us forever. May we merit this day speedily in our times—truly, bimharah veyameinu… Amen. Have a wonderful Shabbos! | | Yavne High School Girls Elementary It was great to welcome everyone back after Pesach. All the learning about the yom tov and mastering of the Hagadah was reflected in the positive feedback and completed charts that were brought in Monday morning. Here are some samplings: “Miriam (Meisels) davened every day of vacation-the correct davening, with Hallel and Musaf on Shabbos and yom tov. She was also super helpful serving clearing, etc.” “Racheil (Stern) was a huge help the whole vacation. We couldn't have done it without her.” “Leah (Kramer) was such a fantastic helper over yom tov. She watched the baby, made salads, set and cleared the table. She stayed up for the entire Seder and added so much!!” “Meira (Kiss) gave her grandparents so much nachas over yom tov.” “Devora (Tennenbaum) was amazing over yom tov! I was able to really rely on her for help and good cheer.” With enthusiasm and participation, Chumash has become a highlight of the day in Morah Zuckerman's first grade. For the fourth day of creation the girls were introduced to the concept of the sun and moon being memsheles hayom memsheles halayla and decorated beautiful crowns. For the fifth day, the girls received jelly fish and watched the words of the pasuk come alive through pictures of many different types of fish and birds that Hashem created. Mazel tov to Miss Libersohn's first grade on the completion of all the ksivah letters. The girls celebrated with edible art, on which they wrote their full names in script, using icing and graham crackers. What an incredible learning experience! General Studies Congratulations to the current top Rocket Math participants in Mrs. Kirschenbaum’s 3rd grade. Temima Adler, Ahuva Greenblatt, Miriam Kahn, Tova Reichman, and Reva Greenfeld are all in the lead for learning their multiplication facts! After a unit on Poetry, Mrs. Rossman’s 2nd graders composed their own Spring Acrostic Poems filled with color, thought, and creativity! Yavne was delighted to welcome our girls back to school this week. Mrs. Sefi Katz and 7th graders enjoy a pizza Chumash siyum at Issi’s. We wish our girls to continue tasting the success of their hard work leading to impressive accomplishments.

Inside the Academy | Page 4 | April 21, 2023 Kindergarten We were delighted to welcome our kinderlach back to school on Monday and enjoy a full week of learning! Classes are busy counƟng Sefiras Ha’omer, hearing about Rebbe Akiva, learning Pirkei Avos, and talking about Shavuos. At this point in the year, our classes are looking ahead to the class Siddur celebraƟon - our annual “Mesibas Siddur”. Details are coming home from each Morah. Early Childhood It was a pleasure welcoming back our kinderlach. We were overjoyed and thank the parents who took the Ɵme to write our moros beauƟful and elaborate notes of appreciaƟon for preparing their kinderlach so well for yom tov, for the beauƟful projects and the vast amount of knowledge and informaƟon their children learned and shared with them over yom tov. Nurturing and teaching our children is very rewarding, and the icing on the cake is when the moros hear from parents the hakoras hatov they have for what they did and for how they not only took good care of their children but also taught them so much. Our children are learning about counƟng Sefiras Ha’omer. In the classrooms, there are huge Har Sinai displays on which flowers are placed each day as the kinderlach count sefirah, marking the day that was counted with a flower. This elevates the excitement and anƟcipaƟon for Shavuos; simultaneously, the children are learning so much about numbers, counƟng and other fun math acƟviƟes. On Friday, Rosh Chodes Iyar, our kinderlach decorated Rosh Chodesh hats, got treats and sang and danced in our hallways. Mishpacha Magazine If you did not pick up your Pesach issue, the magazines from both Yavne and Taylor Road, are outside the Taylor Road building.
