DECEMBER 7 The Brisker Rav, in his travels, stopped at a train sta on in Warsaw, Poland, when he was
informed that the Chofetz Chaim of Radin was visi ng the city. The Rav immediately
Yavne Production at 8:00 p.m. proceeded to pay homage to the great sage, a visit that he would remember fondly for
years to come.

During their mee ng, the Chofetz Chaim expressed concern with regard to the harsh
DECEMBER 5,13 treatment endured by the Jews of that era. He recounted an incident in which an
applica on for a passport by an elderly Jew had been denied by a government agency.
Boys 1-6 Parent Teacher The ninety year old man was informed that issuance of a passport was condi onal upon
Conferences his ability to secure witnesses of his actual birth, a task which was virtually impossible to
7:00-9:30 achieve. What was behind such an unreasonable demand? The answer, stated the
Chofetz Chaim, can be found in this week’s parsha.

A confronta on between Yaakov and Lavan led to an unfortunate diatribe. Yaakov’s

Conferences employer, Lavan. But Yaakov’s words fell upon deaf ears. Lavan’s response? Habanos

DECEMBER 12,15 Dialogue can occur between par es who, with mutual recogni on, communicate
accordingly. So too, explained the Chofetz Chaim, if Poland’s government would
Yavne Parent Teacher perceive a Jew as a human being, dialogue can be a feasible goal. Un l then, however,
Conferences their official posi on would remain unreasonable and outrageous.

Perhaps we can employ this message to impress upon our youth a principle in conflict

may be acceptable – providing that they fit comfortably within the unfaltering principles

Picture Day We can maintain our individual interests. We can express opinions. We can share or
Taylor Rd & Yavne debate philosophies. We can agree to disagree. But in any dispute, minor or major, we
must recognize the opposing individual or interests as a force to contend with. At that
•••••• point, we might consider the issue at hand through a moral or ethical prism as we ask
ourselves: What would Hashem want?

Yeshiva Ketana
Mazel tov to Rabbi Eiserman’s kitah
aleph on celebrating their Chumash
Mesibah last week. The boys
delivered an outstanding per-
formance.
As part of chazarah of the perek of
Chumash, boys from Rabbi
Janowski's lined up for war! The
battle of the four kings against the
five kings, that is. That was just the
beginning of acting out the perek,
finishing with Avrom and Eliezer
saving Lot.
Second graders love learning Lashon
HaTorah so much that they
continued learning even during
lunch!
This past Rosh Chodesh, the third
and fourth graders joined together
in our Bais Medrash for the singing
of Hallel and the davening of Mussaf. They were then treated to a thrilling story and
exciting raffle, followed by the singing of the first three Yedios Kelalios songs (13
Middos of Rachamim, the order of the parshiyos, Trei Asar Nevi’im and the
Kesuvim). This was followed by a similar type of assembly (excluding the davening
and raffle) for the fifth and sixth graders.
Mazel tov to Rabbi Drazin’s fourth grade class on their siyum of Parshas Va’era.
Yaakov Tzvi Admon , Zevy Gresak , Nachi Neuman, Chaim Rivkin, and Ahron Stelzer
all prepared beautiful divrei Torah on the parshah in honor of their siyum which they graciously shared with their classmates.
Mazel tov to Chaim Rivkin, Ephraim Chincholker and Nachi Neuman on their siyumim of mesechtos that they each learn
individually during their own free time outside of the school schedule. Chaim made a siyum on Maseches Bikurim, Ephraim on
Mesechtos Rosh Hashana and Moed Katan and Nachi on Chagigah. May they continue to grow in limud haTorah and be an
inspiration to all of their classmates.
Junior High School
Our talmidim benefited from the M’Dor L’Dor morning program last
week. We were gratified to welcome a full beis medrash of fathers,
grandfathers and friends to our school for a morning of davening,
learning, breakfast and nachas!

Yavne High School
Each month brings another talented group of Yavne 8th grade G. O. heads.
For Kislev, we have Ahuva Becker, Mindy Fishbaum, Ahuva Newman,
Chana Reich, and Faigy Spolter who prepared an adorable video breakout
for a special trip for Junior High… the girls had a blast at Scene 75, an in-
door entertainment center, this week!
Yavne Junior High had an exciting breakout assembly last week for a spe-
cial Junior High production. Mrs. Sefi Katz and Mrs. Chaya Samowitz pre-
pared an adorable game on the huge screen in the auditorium. They vide-
oed various relatives of our staff giving hints. The students had to guess
whose relative it was and what the series of hints spelled out. The girls
were super excited to solve the clues and discover the theme of our
mother/daughter melave malka which will take place on December 17 iyH
- “Keep the Flames Burning Bright”! Thank you, Mrs. Sefi Katz and Mrs.
Chaya Samowitz for heading the event, from breakout till performance, in
order to enable our girls to shine.
Convention preparation brought an in-
credible ruach for staff and students. In a late night email, one mechaneches ex-
pressed to Rabbi Dessler and Mrs. Zelasko: "It is presently 1:05 a.m. and I just got
back from school. The ruach in the air was unbelievable. From a teacher's perspective
there is a certain kesher that you build with your students in the classroom. But of no
less importance is a different type of connection that you make with your students
out of the classroom at times like this. Yes I am exhausted, but I would not have trad-
ed this for anything. Have a good night." We have a truly dedicated staff and Yavne
students are the beneficiaries!!
Building Access During Convention
Yavne High School expresses its appreciation to the community for graciously enabling Yavne to host the national Bais
Yaakov Convention with its 800 delegates from over 60 schools across the country.
Due to space constraints and security requirements, only registered delegates and invited guests will be allowed in the
building. Please respect this protocol so no one will be turned away. The women of the community are invited to
watch the production on Wednesday, December 7th at 8:00 p.m. (doors open 7:30 p.m. tickets are only available at the
door). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Girls Elementary
When we walked into the building last Friday, we were greeted to lively Cha-
nukah music, putting us all in the special Chodesh Kislev mood. The day be-
came even more exciting as treats were passed around and enjoyed by all!
Mrs. Dier created a card game to help her students learn how to build Hebrew
sentences. With some sentence strips and color coding the girls had a great
time putting their sentence structuring skills to good use.
Walk into Miss Libersohn’s 1st grade and you will hear the class translating the
parsha sentences with such enthusiasm! They are learning many new words in
Hebrew, mastering the parsha and enjoying themselves in the process.
General Studies
Mrs. Warn’s 5th graders presented their Explorer’s Scrapbook Project this week. After studying
a particular explorer, the girls creates a scrapbook of the explorer’s life. The girls projected
their scrapbook for the class to view and presented the information to the class. Great job,
girls!
Mrs. Roberts’ budding scientists in 3rd grade
have been studying life cycles of living things,
and have culminated the unit with hands-on
observation of the life cycles of plants. After
hypothesizing the growth of various plants under differing conditions,
the students selected seeds to plant both in soil, and in a hydroponic
aero garden. The aero garden uses only water, plant food, and full
spectrum LED lights to simulate natural sunlight to promote germina-
tion and growth. The difference is clear. After two weeks, we have
abundant growth in our aero garden, while our soil plantings have just begun to sprout!
Kindergarten
It was so nice seeing so many parents at conferences. Thank you to
all our teachers who dedicated their time to touch base with
parents and build the important school/home connection. We look
forward to a year of continued nachas and growth!
Morah Sima and Morah Henna’s class had a great time pretending
to be astronauts on the day they learned the letter A.
||
Early Childhood
In conjunction with this week’s parsha, Morah Rena and Morah Shayna’s kinderlach
created ladders with their Legos, Magna tiles and blocks. They also put together
ladder projects to help them retell the story of Yaakov’s dream.
In some of our other classes, the children were excited when they learned about
Yaakov marrying Leah and Rochel. They performed mock weddings and had so much
fun being dressed up, and going through the motions of a wedding.
Please note the new date for Parent Teacher Conferences for our division: Tuesday,
January 10th. Details to follow.
Staff Spotlight
This new feature will appear here on a monthly basis.
Mrs. Elana Bacon R.N. is our amazing school nurse at the Klein Campus and has
been in the Academy family since 2020. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, she
lived in Eretz Yisrael after graduating high school, eventually making aliyah, and
staying there for over 10 years with her husband and growing family. She graduat-
ed with her bachelor’s of science in nursing from a top nursing school in Eretz Yis-
rael, spending two years of her degree working as a student nurse in the pediatric
unit of Hadassah Hospital. After graduation she worked in a neighborhood clinic,
caring for a vast range of ages including newborn babies. She advanced her way
up to head nurse of the clinic before the pandemic and her family decided to
move back to the United States to be closer to relatives. She and her husband
chose Cleveland because of its sterling reputation for beautiful middos and
menchlichkeit.
She brings an amazing passion and knowledge to the role. She loves her job not only because she is constantly learn-
ing, but she has the zechus to create kesharim with the students while caring for them. In addition to being our phe-
nomenal nurse, she is a dedicated wife and mother of five kinderlach, an avid baker, sourdough bread connoisseur
and a lover of family DIY home projects.
