NOVEMBER 21, 23 When Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzenski, zt”l, Chief Rabbi of Vilna and undisputed spiritual giant of
his generation, authored his classic work, Achiezer, he requested a letter of approbation from
Jr. High Boys Parent Teacher Rabbi Eliyahu Chaim Meisel, Rabbi of Lodz. The latter reviewed the sefer and commented that
Conferences he had not realized that there existed in his generation such a giant like the famed Shaagas
Aryeh of the previous generation. When Rav Chaim Ozer received the letter, he asked Rabbi
Nov. 21 for 7th Grade Meisel why he had not authored and published his own scholarly works. Rabbi Meisel reached
Nov. 23 for 8th grade up to his bookcase and retrieved a thickly bound volume that contained an extensive and
greatly detailed list documenting thousands of names of orphans, widows, and poor people
6:30-9:30 p.m. that he personally supported. “This is my sefer,” he said, “and this is what I will take with me
to the Eternal World.”
••••••
Years later, Rav Chaim Ozer repeated the story and stated that at the time he had not fully
NOVEMBER 24 appreciated the comments of the Rav of Lodz, but that now he did.
Thanksgiving He certainly did, for Rav Chaim Ozer carried the responsibility for all of Klal Yisrael. When my
Boys Division Only father, zt”l, a great-nephew of Rav Chaim Ozer, visited him in 1939 Rav Chaim Ozer
Grades 1-4 9:00 Start befriended my father and asked him to accompany him to a meeting of Gedolim, and later
Grades 5-6 7:45 Minyan into a room full of people seeking his advice, his listening ear, his encouragement, or his
financial assistance. The great Sage physically walked around the room until each individual’s
Jr. High Boys need was met and left encouraged and inspired. Such was Reb Chaim Ozer’s responsibility to
M’dor L’dor at 7:50 Klal Yisrael and to Reb Yisrael—each individual. He understood their needs, felt their pain, and
Grades 1-6 12:00 Dismissal personally toiled on their behalf.
Jr. High Boys 2:10 Dismissal
Toil! The Alter of Kelm indicated that it is not by chance that each day we recite the bracha
•••••• “laasok b’divrei Torah, to toil in the study of Torah.” For just as a salesman is fully engaged
with his customers, particularly for an important customer, so too must a Jew be fully engaged
NOVEMBER 25 in Torah study.
Regular Start The Alter found further application of this principle in this week’s parsha, Vayera, in Avraham
Early Childhood 11:45 Dismissal Avinu’s unparalleled hospitality to the three wayfarers—actions and efforts that have set an
example for all time. And by fully immersing himself in every detail of his hospitality to his
Kindergarten 12:00 Dismissal guests, Avraham Avinu also taught us the attribute of zrizus, to perform a mitzvah quickly and
Grades 1-6 12:00 Dismissal without delay. Avraham Avinu’s household was trained to enthusiastically serve guests, just as
Jr. High Boys 12:30 Dismissal a merchant enthusiastically serves an important customer.
Yavne 12:00 Dismissal The Torah records this virtue no less than four times in two pesukim when we read:
Vayemaher (He rushed), Vayomer mahari (He said, “Hurry!”), Rutz (He ran), Vayemaher (He
•••••• rushed)—as Avraham prepared and served the food to his guests. Despite his advanced age
and state of physical debilitation from his bris, Avraham Avinu completely devoted his efforts
JANUARY 10 and energy in involving himself in every aspect—indeed every detail, even hurrying—to make
a difference in the lives of others.

Rabbi Yaakov Resnick’s 8th grade class was tested on shaklah v’tariya
with most boys mastering it all and some knowing more than half.
Yeshiva Ketana
In conjunction with this week’s parsha, Parshas Vayeira, the talmidim in Morah
Burnstein’s class watched a short video depicting the chesed done by Bikur Cholim of
Cleveland and were then treated to a special visitor. Rav Avraham and his wife traveled all
the way from Yerushalayim to Cleveland to avail themselves of the world class medical
care available in our city. Rav Avraham first tested the boys on the parsha and was
extremely impressed with their knowledge, especially in regards to the significance of
bikur cholim and hachnasas orchim. He told the boys how they arrived in a city with no
family or friends, armed only with their bitachon and the legend of the incredible
organization of Bikur Cholim. He described how touched they were with the personal
attention provided twenty four hours a day, every day of the week. He pointed out how important the mitzvah of bikur
cholim is and how amazed they are with our incredible city. He then concluded by letting them know how appreciative they
are for the warm welcome they received and now feel that they truly do have family in Cleveland — their dedicated
brothers and sisters of Klal Yisrael. The boys presented refuah shelaima cards which they decorated and received a special
treat in honor of this mitzvah. May the lessons learned leave an indelible
impression upon them.

Our Chesed group this year, Dassi Wolovitz,
Riva Halpern, Chana Fleksher, Rena Zuckerman, and Hadassa Schlesinger, broke out their
program this week with an amazing performance! This year’s theme is “Make Waves, Sea
the Ripple Effect of your chesed actions” and we are very excited to see the ripple effect of
our Yavne girls chesed this coming up year!
Rabbi Yitz Frank, a Director of Agudath Israel of Ohio, came to speak to the 11th grade
Government classes on Monday. He discussed the importance of lobbyists and what his
role was in helping to get new education laws passed to help the Jewish community. The
11th grade asked great questions about why the state is willing to change things to reflect
Jewish priorities and how to become a lobbyist. The importance of voting and expressing
our ideas and concerns to the government was at the forefront, as that is the greatest way we impact our government.
Thank you to Mrs. Weinberg and Mrs. Fortuna for setting this up.
Mrs. Mann’s 12th grade English class was treated to an encore performance
puppet show of Hamlet. When these students were in 9th grade, Mr. Mann per-
formed Julius Caesar over Zoom. They loved it so much that they requested the
puppets return. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Mann brought a deeper understanding
and fun to Hamlet!
Yavne High School welcomes Mrs. Haley Dunn, MA, LPCC, to our staff. Her focus
will be on building skills in executive functioning, impulsivity, time and emotion-
al management. This week, a group of parents gained insight and validation
from her presentation.
She will be presenting to
teachers as well as she begins working with our students individu-
ally and in small groups to prepare them not only for school suc-
cess but also for life.
It was wonderful seeing our girls so happy and making the most of
their time in Eretz Yisrael. They look wonderful, and make us
proud in every seminary that is lucky enough to have them! The
girls were thrilled to reunite with Yavne Mechaneches, Mrs. Pessie
Saks during her recent visit there.

Walk into Mrs. Stoll’s second grade
classroom and you will hear the girls
chanting their shorashim along with
motions, with much enthusiasm and
excitement! The girls are mastering
Chumush skills and enjoying
themselves in the process.
What can be better than an opportunity to get creative and do chesed at the same time? Miriam Meisels and Basya
Grodko in Miss Pollak’s fifth grade, organized a learning center for their class to use after completing classwork. The
girls are enjoying the variety of books, crafts and activities.

Transportation News
In compliance with Ohio Department of Education guidelines the CHUH school district will be conducting emergency
evacuation drills during the week of November 14, 2022. The drills are scheduled to take place during the morning
routes. Some of the school buses service as many as three schools in the morning. They have designed a schedule that
should help minimize lateness/tardiness. Please be aware some buses may run a little late all week.

Morah Modes and Morah Mindy’s class celebrated
the completion of the Aleph-Beis with an exciting
siyum this week! Special activities, games and treats
made the day extra special. Each child brought
something associated with a specific letter. Special
thanks to Beri Elkan for the extra special lamp he
brought to school (i.e. אfor אור/light). The day
ended with an Uncle Moishy Aleph-Beis video that
provided a super fun review…. Now on to reading!
Early Childhood
This week, the story of the parsha came alive in every one of our classes with
creative, educational and enriching activities. Morah Naomi and Morah Miri-
am’s class decorated refuah sheleima cards which they brought to Mrs. Wen-
dy Green’s house to put into bags that will go to sick people’s families for
Shabbos.
Dramatic Play: To reinforce the mitzvah
of hachnosas orchim, the children prac-
ticed how to welcome guests. They practiced saying, “Hi, come in” with a big smile
while also saying, “Would you like a drink or something to eat?” and “I will share all
my toys with you.”
Social Skills: The children continued to practice these actions and everything that
else they learned about hachnosas orchim in their dramatic play areas.
Art and Literacy Awareness: The children in Morah Bluma and Morah Sora’s class
received a story booklet about the parsha but without pictures; the children did a
marvelous job illustrating the pages and expressing their reading comprehension
through their drawings.
For Math: As an extension of the mitzvah of hachnosas orchim, Morah Chani and Morah Devora’s class listened to the
story The Doorbell Rang, by Pat Hutchins. During playtime, the children received twelve pretend cookies, and kept
practicing to divide them evenly for all their “guests.”
Music and Movement: After the children learned what happened to Lot’s wife- turning into a pillar of salt, the children
played a “freeze” game. When the music played, the children danced around, but as soon as the music stopped, they
“froze,” just like Lot’s wife.
Sensory Awareness: Many of our classes had salt tasting activities.
And last but not least — in honor of the birth of Yitzchak Avinu, Morah Dina and Morah Chassi, Morah Chumee and
Morah Yitty’s classes had a “Shalom Zachar” during their Shabbos Party.
