KOLLEL & YESHIVA HIGH SCHOOL Kollel Ateres Nochum Zev and Yeshiva High School continue to work in tandem as part of the Academy community. Kollel members serve as mentors and role models to high school talmidim; they interact with the talmidim through countless learning opportunities and extracurricular activities including in-town Shabbosim, shalosh seudos and melaveh malkahs. The Yeshiva High organized a tzeischem l’shalom to express their hakaras hatov to Rabbi Baron, an inspiring and beloved Rosh Mesivta and impeccable mechanech who is retiring to Israel after over half a century of teaching and guiding talmidim. Seventh and eighth grade talmidim took their annual Torah Tour to Baltimore and Washington, visited Ner Israel Rabbinical College, received divrei beracha from the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Ahron Feldman and from Rabbi Yissochar Frand and heard reminiscences of his years in the Hebrew Academy from Rabbi Yechiel Spero. In May, talmidim toured the Ohio State’s Stone Laboratory on the island of Put-in-Bay in Lake Erie. Students shed for specimens and conducted experiments on lake water. The trip began with a vasikin minyan on the ferry and included a shiur on te las haderech. Students also took part in a minyan at Lansing Cemetery on the yarzheit of Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Katz, zt’l, veteran Academy mechanech and founding principal of Yavne High School. Parents and siblings joined Yeshiva High School talmidim at the annual Lag B’omer bon re for an evening of lively song and unity. The year concluded with a successful M’Dor L’Dor Father/ Son Learning Session that highlighted, once again, the vital connection of parents and school. 5 LAMED TES MELACHOS FAIR SCIENCE FAIRS EASTERN HEMIS”FAIR”

6 EARLY CHILDHOOD Our registration for the award-winning Early Childhood Division is larger than ever before. This Division is striving to add classes and create classrooms that continue their tradition of focusing on the growth of each individual child; strengthening talents, honing social skills, and introducing aleph beis, parshiyos, and the yomim tovim. This past semester, preschoolers learned about community helpers and were treated to visits from doctor daddies as well as a trip to the re station.

PTA YESHIVA KETANA There is a warm and delightful atmosphere that pervades the Yeshiva Ketana as the boys learn and translate their learning into projects. Students went to Telshe Yeshiva for chizuk and Menorah Park and Monte ore Nursing Home to entertain residents. The BEAM Program cultivated an awareness of the importance of middos tovos, good character. Talmidim wrote a newspaper replete with articles on admirable people who have made a di erence. Prizes were awarded to talmidim who learned well and worked on the program’s theme, to Be A Mentch. Talmidim were treated to a surprise visit by Rebbe Hill who regaled the students with his stories. Second grade students researched a wide range of animals and constructed posters full of information. Sixth graders learned about the properties of matter and buoyancy; they built boats that could hold six boys and still stay a oat. A school-wide Readathon encouraged outside reading and raised over $5,000 for school libraries. The Annual Media Awareness Program, a six-week initiative, was a success and culminated with a deluxe cruise on Lake Erie. 7 SIDDUR & CHUMASH CELEBRATIONS

Talmidos participated in a yearlong program that focused on developing exemplary middos. The focus these past few months was on patience and preventing oneself from acting out of anger. The program included skits and songs as well as posters and role-playing. The program visibly positively impacted student behavior. Students in all grades learned well, wrote well, and enjoyed a siyum on the ice. A Lamed Tes Melachos Fair with posters and activities reinforced lessons that were learned throughout the year. Third grade girls performed for the GILA Luncheon, a project of N’shei Agudath Israel that provides programming for the senior ladies of our community. Fourth grade students culminated a unit on colonial day living with a trip to Century Village where they were able to participate in a live recreation of an oldfashioned one-room schoolhouse. In June all grades participated in a Fun Field Day. There were races in the playground, class cheers and colors plus dance and other activities inside. Another June highlight was the cruise around Cleveland, the prize for adherence to the Media Awareness program. GIRLS ELEMENTARY 8

GIRLS ELEMENTARY 9 Yavne students spent a productive semester focusing on learning, chessed, and school-wide activities. Some high points included a wonderful, multi-dimensional production in which all Yavne girls participated through drama, dance, scenery, costumes, and props. There were also illuminating and informative Shabbatonim and melaveh malkahs as well as a mishloach manos auction that bene tted the Irving I. Stone Vaad Hatzedakah Fund. A particular highlight of the year was a very successful pre-Shavuos Leil Iyun. Eighth graders studied earthquake-resistant structures and designed their own resistant buildings. Ninth graders built Rube Goldberg machines to perform simple tasks in a complicated fashion. Eleventh grade students visited the State House in Columbus and spoke with Ohio Representative Ms. Janine Boyd. Students ended the year with a recycling project that will become an all-inclusive initiative. The overwhelming majority of graduates will continue their studies in Israel next year. YAVNE HIGH SCHOOL

PTA The theme of this year’s Chinese Auction was Blossoms, a reference to our amazing students and the parents who nurture them. Thanks to Mrs. Tzippy Kiss and Mrs. Rachelle Shawel and their team for transforming Yavne’s auditorium into a pastoral setting and overseeing the myriad details that went into this event. Over 280 children participated in the June Fun Run and Carnival. Fun Run Chairs, Mrs. Sara Farkas and Mrs. Hillary Gecovich and their committees ensured the success of the day. Many thanks to Past Presidents, Mrs. Malky Traube and Mrs. Ruti Wolf and our current Presidents, Mrs. Chani Berner and Mrs. Avigail Malcmacher for a job well done. Every PTA event that runs smoothly and is successful is due in large part to the dedicated workers who are willing to generously give of their time and talents. The bond between our school and its parents are a resource that is valued and treasured. 10 SIDDUR & CHUMASH CELEBRATIONS

11 GEDOLIM FAIR The best way of learning is hands-on, total submersion into a topic. Therefore, our annual Gedolim Fair has always been an exceptional experience for our talmidim as they immerse themselves in the lives of their particular “Gadol” and display both verbal presentations and visual depictions of their Gadol’s life and writings. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MATH FAIRS Our Inaugural Math Fair featured a day that highlighted the importance of mathematical thinking and developing problem solving skills. Some of the skills learned included estimation, use of a balance scale in metric, multiple problem solving strategies, exposure to spatial reasoning, complex puzzles, data collection, and transformational geometric concepts. Activities throughout the year included hands-on pottery, arts and crafts events, pizza slips from Kinneret, and a barbeque at Horseshoe Lake. Mentors were provided leadership training throughout the year so that they could relate and relax with their “little sisters” in a stress-free atmosphere that promoted good will and self con dence.
