Chadashos 10.29.21

Chadashos 10.29.21

October 29 2021 | ‫פרשת חיי שרה | כ''ג חשון תשפ''ב‬

‫בס‘‘ד‬

NOVEMBER 4 A humorous story is told about a youth group leader who instructed his charges to perform a
Regular Schedule chesed, an act of kindness, as a prerequisite for being part of his special group, but if the youths
(calendar change) failed to perform the requisite kindness then they could not join. Later when the group gathered
together, the leader asked each youth regarding his act of chesed and one at a time each
•••••• responded in the negative. True to his word, the leader promptly dismissed the group stating
that they were not to return until the act was accomplished. Upon regrouping (now for the
NOVEMBER 23 second time), each member of the group responded, “I helped an old lady cross the
Parent Teacher Conferences street.” “How was it that all of you helped an old lady cross the street?” the leader queried.
“Because she didn’t want to go!” they replied.
for Jr. High Boys
6:30-10:00 p.m. In our society, chesed has become an institution larger than life. The generosity and acts of
kindness that define our communities are absolutely remarkable. Tzedakah organizations
•••••• abound, and — incredibly! — almost every conceivable avenue of assistance is available. Yet
among these kind and spirited souls we sometimes find well-meaning individuals who try too
6:06 hard to help and in the wrong places. It is a misguided act to focus on one’s own personal need
to fulfill the mitzvah of chesed and not on a true need for chesed. In such situations we need not
ponder who the true recipient of the act is. Thus, we need to extend ourselves on behalf others
and not on a personal need to experience satisfaction and fulfillment. And if our well-
intentioned act of chesed represents the latter, then it amounts to no more than helping a
reluctant elderly lady cross a street.

Chesed, one of the three foundations that uphold the world, is an integral component of this
week’s parsha. Avraham’s servant, Eliezer, was charged with the formidable task of finding a
match worthy of Yitzchok Avinu—a future matriarch of the Jewish People who must be the
embodiment of kindness and compassion, sensitivity and caring. Thus, when Rivka appeared at
the well and offered water to Eliezer and also expressed “v’gam legmalech eshav, and I will also
pour for your camels,” it was a Divine indication of a match made in Heaven (24,l4). Rabbi
Moshe Feinstein, zt”l, explained that the virtue of chesed was so ingrained in Rivkah that it had
become inseparable from the totality of her personality—it was her essence.

We should seek to implant this consciousness within our children. Our development of their
understanding of the ideals and applications of acts of chesed need to be real and
developmentally appropriate so that over the years a chesed consciousness becomes second
nature to them—part of their essence.

I once attended a simcha on a Friday evening at a beautiful catering hall in Brooklyn, New York.
The room was magnificent, the décor elegant, and the food delicious—as expected for such a
hall. What was unique—and surpassingly heartwarming—was that an adjoining ballroom
catered to more than fifty disadvantaged (many of them homeless) people who are invited by
the caterer each week to enjoy the same delicious Shabbos meal on the same elegant dishes as
the “paid for” guests in the next room. This outstanding gesture was a sight to behold. In a
world where chesed abounds, this particular caterer raised the bar and set a new standard to be
emulated by one and all.

Have a wonderful Shabbos!

Yeshiva Ketana

Fifth grader, Ari Heifetz conducted a
siyum of Mishnayos Meseches Pe'ah.
May Ari continue to make many
more siyumim in the future
Shlomo Michoel Maimon, also in 5th
grade, comes every day before
davening and rather than be
unproductive, he seizes the opportunity
andfindsachavrusato learn with… a talmid chacham in the works!

Junior High School

The seventh grade boys are mastering their Chumash program. With hachana,
they are tested on Chumash, Rashi and yedios. We are proud of our talmidim!
The boys are also presented with daily challenge questions and have been seen
at various shuls researching!
Our music class is really doing well and we are proud of our aspiring guitarists!

Girls Elementary

In the Girls Elementary division, we are continuing to work on our theme of this
year: Emes. This week we had assemblies, led by Morah Rochie Kutoff, where
the girls saw how the letters of the word “EMES” are spread out at the begin-
ning, middle and end of the Aleph Bais. To help us develop this middah, each
girl got a booklet of Emes stories and lessons that they will read through over
the next few weeks. There are as many pages as there are letters in the Aleph
Bais, and the girls will color in a letter each time they read. Stay tuned to hear
how we will celebrate the completion of the booklet!

Edible Science
Fifth graders in Mrs. Goldstein’s Science class created edible displays

of the moon phases. Waxing
and waning with frosting and
cookies is much more exciting
than just reviewing textbook
pictures.
4th Grade Geography Wizz
Congratulations to Leah Salamon who was the first girl (of 75!) who
successfully completed two of Mrs Durfey’s Geography Challenges! Leah was
able to name and locate all 50 states and identify the state capital of each
state! In case Waze isn’t working, just take Leah along! Impressive work Leah!

Yavne High School

Junior High
The staff at Yavne is committed to working together as a team to make
learning meaningful for all our students. This past week, Mrs. Ariella Vale
presented an integrated timeline to Mr. Chollet’s 7th grade World History

class. They lined
up correlating
events in the time
of Tanach and the
first Beis Hamikdash
with events they
learned about in
World History. This gave the students the organization and
perspective to deepen their understanding and
appreciation of this time period.

Early Childhood

The children in all our classes learned that Avrohom wanted
Eliezer to find a good girl who does “chesed” for Yitzchok to
marry. The Moros explained to the children what doing a chesed
means and practiced being kind and helping each other. Morah

Shani and Morah Elisheva
created a working well in
their classroom and the
kinderlach enjoyed using it
over and over as they “role
played” the parsha story. Morah Naomi and Morah
Rena’s class had a fun time acting out the parsha.
They had a big camel in their class. Each child got a
turn to ride on it to a “well” where “Rivka” was
standing. Our moros taught their students about
many of the parsha details, and expanded on topics
that correlate with the stories of the parsha. They
taught about wells, water, camels, numbers etc.

The children in Morah Faigy and Morah Chaya’s class
have been learning about what it means to be a
“good friend.” They have been practicing being kind
to one another, sharing, and taking turns with their toys. To culminate what they learned, the children painted the palm
of their hands and stamped them onto a big “friendship flag, ” which is now proudly posted in their classroom.

Kindergarten

Some of our Kindergarten classes celebrated the completion of the Aleph-Beis with an
exciting siyum! Special activities, games and treats made the day extra special. In
Morah Modes and Morah Mindy’s class each child brought something associated with a

specific letter. The class enjoyed yummy
gelidah - which happens to be
a new gimmel word they
learned!

In Morah Katz and Morah
Orit’s class, the kinderlach
had a great time creating
letters out of pull-n-peel lico-
rice. Pictured here is Akiva
Leffel and his letter raish.

Parent Capital Campaign

This past Sunday, we launched our parent building campaign in the brand new Boys Ele-
mentary cafeteria. Over 150 parents came out and took the time to hear how they could

partner in helping raise the remaining
funds needed for the completion of the
building. They were treated to soup and
sushi while spending time with fellow
parents of the school. The momentum is
building and over 105 parents have al-
ready opened their family page.
Thank you again to Mrs. Sara Farkas,
Mrs. Devorah Pollak and Mrs. Esti Reich-
man for serving as head captains and for
taking care of all the logistics needed for
the kickoff event. Thank you also to all the captains who are in touch with our families and
are helping build the momentum and energy. We appreciate all your devotion and time
that you have already given and continue to give to the success of this campaign!

It isn’t just our students who are ecstatic to be in their beautiful new school
campus…. Our Menahelim are pretty excited, too!

2O2O WE ARE
SO CLOSE!
ONE
Education is building—building minds, building hearts, building life,
VISION building students, building futures.

Building Futures. Growing Worlds. Join us in our 2O2O ONE VISION!

It’s almost time! November 2nd is just around the corner, which means we
are moving double-time to prepare for our double-match campaign.

We are uniting to help complete our 2O2O ONE VISION. It takes a vil age
true community to pull off something of this scale: $1 million stands
between us and the completion of our expansion.

In 36 hours, we are going to harness the incredible potential of our social
networks. Our Teams are our superpower in this campaign! Your Team will
reach out to all of your contacts - and, keep in mind, sizable donations
aren’t the only path to success. Small donations from a arge number of
donors add up and up and up - so we’re counting on you!

If you haven’t registered your Team yet, there’s still time. Go to
Charidy.com/HAC and click on the green Create My Team button - fill out
the form, skip the Parent Team section, and start reaching out to your
contacts! Your personal goal is up to you, so aim high!

On November 2nd and 3rd we need volunteers to help out. Come by to make
calls in the Oakwood clubhouse cafeteria between 6:30 PM-9:30 PM!

We’re taking all the steps. We’re almost there. And all of this is building to
the true purpose of our expansion: the growth of Torah learning in our
students. On November 7th at 10 am, we will celebrate both a Chanukas
HaBayis for the new building and a Hachnosas Sifrei Torah. This is the
pinnacle, the purpose of all of our work: we are investing in the ruchniyus of
our children and thus building the future of K al Yisroel.
