Chadashos 10.15.21

Chadashos 10.15.21

October 15, 2021 | ‫פרשת לך לך | ט' חשון תשפ''ב‬

‫בס‘‘ד‬

NOVEMBER 4 A joyous occasion is both meaningful and memorable when shared with family and
Professional Day friends. When one participates in a simcha he contributes to his hosts’ joy and, in a
Details to Follow manner, becomes an active partner in the event being celebrated. One’s participation
in a bris, however, allows him to give as well as to receive.
6:26
Bris Milah – the Covenant of Circumcision – is introduced in this week's parshah as an
everlasting sign which eternally links its bearer to his Creator. The Torah mandates
that, ben shmonas yamim yimol lachem kol zachar ledoroseichem, at the age of eight
days every male among you shall be circumcised, throughout your generations (17,12).

One of the most fascinating aspects of the traditional bris ceremony is the presence of
Eliyahu HaNavi who is known as the Malach HaBris, the Angel of Circumcision. The
honorable Chair of Eliyahu – the Kisei shel Eliyahu – serves as a reminder of his angelic
presence.

Bnei Yissoschar quotes a Midrash revealing that Eliyahu HaNavi appealed to Hashem
that since he could not tolerate transgression he was apprehensive about gracing a
bris milah ceremony with his presence because it is possible that the father of the child
may have sinned. Hashem assured Eliyahu that He will forgive the sins of the father.
When Eliyahu HaNavi persisted and expressed his concern that the mohel may have
sinned, Hashem responded that He will forgive the mohel's transgressions as
well. When Eliyahu expressed his concern that the guests attending the ceremony
may have sinned, Hashem pledged to pardon the sins of all of those present. With this,
Eliyahu’s mind was at ease and he was prepared to descend and grace each bris milah
with his distinguished presence.

We recognize that the occasion of a bris milah is an all-important event in the life of a
Jew, and we are keenly aware that it is the eternal sign of the Jew. But, perhaps, we do
not fully appreciate the twofold opportunity inherent in attending a bris: the
opportunity to bask in the presence of one of the greatest of our prophets, Eliyahu
HaNavi, and also to receive Divine atonement for our transgressions.

Have a wonderful Shabbos!

Historic Move to Oakwood Campus

Zeh hayom asah Hashem
nagila v’nismecha vo! Amid
festive music, singing and
dancing, and bedecked in
white shirts to mark the
occasion, the entire Yeshiva
Ketana gathered under
the morning skies to
celebrate the opening of
our magnificent new
makom Torah. The boys
and their Rabbeim danced
by class and then formed
a large 350 person circle,
singing a newly composed
song for the occasion.
Expressing that we were
about to inaugurate a
makom Torah where
Torah has never existed
before, Rabbi Dessler said
that “ Today is a historical
day in your lives and in the
history of our school… and
each of you is an
important part of this
incredible milestone.” As
the crowd excitedly
approached the building,
mezuzos were affixed to
the front entrance doors
by three local Rabbonim,
members of the school’s
Vaad Hachinuch; Rabbi
Boruch Hirschfeld, Rabbi
Naphtali Burnstein and
Rabbi Zev Busel, with the
final mezuzah affixed by
Mr. Ivan Soclof, Academy
past president and the
father of our beautiful
Oakwood Campus. May
the Ribono Shel Olam
grant us all continued
bracha v’hatzlacha from
strength to strength!

Yeshiva Ketana

Our boys are thrilled to be in their magnificent new building and have
acclimated to the state-of-the-art learning environment. Opening Day this
past Tuesday will surely linger in our boys’ memories for many years to
come.
Third grader, Benny Gross completed Mishnayos Meseches Pe’ah and
conducted a siyum in commemoration of the yahrzeit of his grandmother,
Mrs. Barbara Gross, a”h on her yahrzeit. What a beautiful way to honor the
memory of a loved one and create an aliya for the neshama!

Junior High School

Mazel tov to seventh grader, Azriel Pollack who put on tefillin for the first time
this week. Celebrating with Azriel were his father and both of his grandfathers.
Especially meaningful was the fact that Azriel’s local grandfather, Academy
alumnus and longtime supporter, Mr. Nathan Pollack received an aliya as the
baal korei lained from the Sefer Torah which belonged to Azriel’s great
grandfather, Holocaust survivor, Mr. Michael Pollack, z”l. The Pollack family had
loaned the Torah to the Academy’s junior high /high school minyan many years
ago. Mr. Pollack commented that the Sefer Torah is still in such nice condition.
The Torah is our morashah and it is transmitted m’dor l’dor, from generation to
generation!
Yasher Koach to all those who took part in our Matan B”seser campaign. We were zoche to raise over $20,000 to help
those in need in our community. May it be a zechus for all of us!
Yasher Koach to the more than 60 boys who took part in our Succos programs. Thank you again to the generous
sponsors. The incentives will be given out in the next week or so.
Night Seder program began for seventh grade! Night Seder gives the boys the opportunity to learn and connect with
the yungeleit of our school-based Kollel, Kollel Ateres Nochum Zev. This program is being held in the Young Israel Bais
Medrash (upstairs). We have an open Bais Medrash where the boys can come, together with their chavrusahs, and the
Kollel yungeleit rotate and connect in learning with all of the chavrusahs. Night Seder for seventh grade is on Sunday,
Wednesday, and Thursdays. The learning begins at 8:00, followed by Maariv at 9:00. Pickup at 9:15. On Thursday
nights, the boys will be treated to cholent or other hot food, pickup will be at 9:30. On all nights, please ensure a
timely arrival and pick up. We are grateful to parents for encouraging our boys to participate in this valuable
opportunity! For more information, please contact Rabbi Chanina Dessler.

Girls Elementary

We are so excited to have an entire building for the girls division! Every class has enough space, we have spread out
into two lunchrooms, so everyone has a calm and spacious environment to eat in and dismissal is so much simpler.

Third grade had a special assembly this week as an introduction to beginning to learn the tefillah of Shemoneh Esrei.
We all watched a PowerPoint of entering the King’s palace, so the girls could visualize that Shemoneh Esrei is bringing
them right before the greatest King, Hashem! Afterwards, each third grader enjoyed a special cookie decorated with a
crown. We hope that this will be the beginning of a lifelong connection to Hakadosh Baruch Hu through Tefillah.

General Studies

After reading a humorous story about a moose who was accused of
stealing a neighbor’s pie and had to go to court to defend himself, the girls
in Ms. Kirschenbaum’s 3rd grade acted out a real life trial. With a judge,
jurors, witnesses, lawyers, court reporters, police officers, a plaintiff and a
defendant, the students learned all about how the court system plays an
important role in our government.

We recognize the following students for completing their Summer packets

Junior High
Chodesh Cheshvan 8th grade Yavne Junior
High G. O. heads, Devorah Bernstein, Rina
Bulua, Yitty Cohen, and Sari Fine, with Miss
Katz, coordinator, brought a “Downpour”
of spunk and spirit as they introduced the theme of the month. The girls had a
“splash” of a time participating in “water” related races. The girls also enjoyed
their “wet” ice pops. This week our G.O. heads broke out our highly anticipated
trip to “Top Golf”. We are all looking forward to next week’s outing iy”H.

Early Childhood

We had a full house on Wednesday night for our “Meet the Teachers Night.” Our
Preschool parents were enthusiastic and thrilled to see their kinderlach’s spacious
beautifully equipped and decorated classroom. The parents enjoyed hearing about
what their children experience throughout their day here and were very pleased with
the teachers teaching styles, positive discipline methods, and our curriculum.

In conjunction with this week’s
parsha story about Avrohom
traveling, Morah Shani and Morah
Elisheva’s class learned about
transportation. They read books
about cars, boats, trains and
airplanes and had their children
using cars as paintbrushes to create tracks on their papers.

Morah Leah and Mora Dena’s afternoon class learned about the rain
and experimented making clouds out of shaving cream with food
coloring.

Kindergarten

This week we started all our specials! We got to enjoy our first Music class,
Social Skills lesson and library group. Thank you to Mrs. Sauber, Mrs. Soclof,
and Mrs. Stern for giving Kindergarten the opportunity to enjoy this special
