MARCH 17-18 What is it about Purim that generates such joy and merriment? How does the joy associated
with Purim distinguish itself from that of other festivals which likewise commemorate our
Purim - No School miraculous salvation?
•••••• Purim might be one of those joyous days that unfortunately gets misunderstood. While joy is its
centerpiece, Purim actually enables us to reach the highest levels of spirituality –through joy—if
MARCH 27 our intentions, actions and interactions conform with the spirit in which the celebration was
intended.
79th HAC Tribute Dinner
6:00 p.m. at the The primary purpose of the celebration of Purim is to internalize and appreciate the connection
between the Almighty and Am Yisrael, and to find our individual roles and relevance in it.
Mendy & Ita Klein Campus Quoting the Brisker Rav zt”l, Rabbi Shimshon Pincus zt”l writes that the mitzvah to be joyful on
Purim differs from the dictum to be joyful on all other festivals where the required sense of joy
•••••• is to be experienced with the Almighty. For example, on Succos we celebrate the festival with a
lulav and esrog with an associated joy for the mitzvah. On Purim, however, we are commanded
APRIL 13-24 to be joyful. Period. There is no specific attachment to an accompanying mitzvah. The purpose of
the festival is to be thankful to Hashem for the gift of every-day life and the natural events and
Pesach Vacation developments surrounding it. The focus of Purim is to find and reveal the Presence of Hashem
amid what appears to be natural and to appreciate that the fact that we can eat, drink and be
7:18 joyful is simply by the grace of Hashem. In an interesting way, the more we unveil the cloak of
nature, the more we fathom the all- encompassing imprint of G-d. Rav Pincus adds that a full
appreciation of that which we celebrate on Purim can only be achieved after the reading
of Megilas Esther which details of the historic miracles. Perhaps that is the reason that Megilah
is the first of the three mitzvos of Purim. It sets the stage for celebration and the tone for a full
appreciation of the story of Purim.
The Purim story is at once an inspiration and a comfort. When the wicked Haman sought to
annihilate the Jewish people, the Almighty miraculously thwarted his plans and orchestrated a
stunning reversal of events thereby changing the course of destiny, not just for the Jews of
Shushan but for all Jews and for all time. Ironically, the name of Hashem is completely absent
throughout Megilas Esther, yet every step of the way screams Divine Providence. Megilas Esther
illustrates the invisible Presence of Hashem under all circumstances. We are never alone and an
eternal light flickers even amid the darkness. This is perhaps the most significant lesson of the
day; one that still inspires generations of Jews with hope and comfort.
Perhaps Rabbi Yitzchok Hutner, zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of Mesivta Rabeinu Chaim Berlin and author of
the acclaimed Pachad Yitzcok said it best: “Purim hut nisht havdalah. We don’t recite the
traditional havdalah at the culmination of the festival of Purim as we do at the culmination of
Shabbos and other festivals because the spirit of Purim, its joys and merriment, its hopes and
aspirations, remain with us long past the festival itself.”
Have a joyous Purim and a wonderful Shabbos!
Rabbi and Mrs. Simcha Dessler will be out of town for Purim.

Yeshiva Ketana
Purim was definitely in the air and ruach reverberated
throughout the halls of the Yeshiva Ketana as we celebrated
pre-Purim in school. Many staff and students wore Purim hats
as we celebrated with spirited music, song and dance in the
Auditorium. A freilechen Purim to all!
Junior High School
Simchas Purim came early to the Junior High School with a surprise set up
this past Sunday morning, under the direction of Rabbi Kahn. Tuesday
brought additional simcha with two talmidim, Azaryah Feldman and Elisha
Weisz donning tefillin for the first time and distributing doughnuts. May
their current enthusiasm for the mitzvah of tefillin remain with them
throughout their lives!
Rabbi Kahn invited the Junior High talmidim and their fathers to a siyum
kiddush in honor of the birth of their daughter, Chani, this Shabbos after
11:15 at the Kahn home. In addition, a
special Seudas Siyum will be held on Purim
Day from 12:30-2:15 (actual Siyum will take
place approximately at 1:30) also at the Kahn
home. The boys were also reminded of two
learning opportunities over Purim: a Seder Limud on Leil Purim and Yeshivas Mordechai
HaTzadik on Purim Day.

Girls Elementary
Literature in Math... The fourth graders
read “Sir Cumference” and the “Dragon
Pi” on 3.14. While many decorated hats,
others got to act out the story in more
detail!
Second graders are focusing on being a good friend. Pictured here is Sari Feldman
being recognized for outstanding middos and her ability to always be a good friend!
Yavne High School
“Use the Power of your Smile to spread Kindness” was the theme of Monday’s
Smile Committee program for Adar. The students enjoyed a spirited game of
musical chairs set to Benny Friedman’s new album, It Sounds Like Purim! As
girls were ”out” they enjoyed dancing and shtick with the leibedik music.
Afterward, they were treated to Powerade and Kind bars as they watched a
short video clip produced by Aish HaTorah,
“Purim and the Secret to Happiness.” Both
the special treat and the message set us up for a meaningful ta’anis.
Last week, our 9th grade STEM students participated in a unique opportunity through
CIJE-The Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education. Representatives from the national
office set up an obstacle course and taught the girls SCRATCH coding before
challenging them to write the code that would send their drone through the obstacle
course and land on the helipad – directly on the bullseye! The students had multiple
opportunities to refine their code to reach success. Students and teachers in other
grades stopped in to
watch the trials and
cheer on the teams.
As one student said, “The
program was awesome!
It was so cool to see how
even without exact
measurements and
previous experience, you
could succeed.”
Another wrote, “I
learned that Science can be fun, hard, and stressful but
don’t give up so fast and push forward until you succeed!” All agreed it was a great way to see the effect of what they are
learning. We look forward to bringing in more engineering and robotics programming to Yavne to enhance our students’
experiences. Thank you to Mrs. Feigenbaum and our CIJE representative, Mr. Bob Jones, for facilitating this amazing event.

Early Childhood
Thank you so much to Mr. Alex
Greenfield, who came and so
patiently used his artistic talents as
he painted the faces and hands of
the kinderlach in his daughter,
Esti’s class. The children really
enjoyed this fun activity. They
watched him with awe and kept
running to look at their beautiful faces in the mirror.
Our Purim Chagiga was so much fun. The kinderlach heard a quick recap of the Purim story as
they watched our huge Purim characters. They put Haman stickers on the bottom of their shoes and made sure to stamp out
Haman. We sang and danced to fun Purim music and ended our party with yummy Clown OoDels!!!
