Chadashos 2.18.22

Chadashos 2.18.22

February 18, 2022 | ‫פרשת כי תשא | י''ז אדר ב' תשפ''ב‬

‫בס‘‘ד‬

FEBRUARY 21 It was the knock at the door which demonstrated his true love for Torah. So great was his enthusiasm
for Torah, that Rabbi Yaakov Dovid Wilovsky zt”l, renowned by the Hebrew acronym, Ridvaz, once left
Presidents Day his house on a frigid winter night to share his chidush, his newly acquired Torah perspective, with
No Beachwood Bus Rabbi Boruch Ber Lebovitz, zt”l of Kaminetz. The latter was bewildered to see the Ridvaz at his door in
the darkness of night and in such inclement weather. He offered his guest a warm tea but the Ridvaz
•••••• declined. His visit, he explained, was simply to share the excitement of his newfound understanding of
the Rif commentary on the Talmud. He then added with confidence that he was certain that the birth
FEBRUARY 27 pains of his mother and that of all mothers before her were worthwhile for such an enlightening Torah
perspective. So extraordinary was his devotion to Torah and so great were his zechusim, merits.
Yavne Production
(see attached flier) Yet, when the Ridvaz suffered a debilitating illness and the medics had given up, it was a different
redeeming factor that came to his rescue. Hovering between life and death, Ridvaz was summoned to
•••••• the Heavenly court where, in his defense, he argued that he had sacrificed to study Torah and that he
had authored a commentary on the Jerusalem Talmud— but it was to no avail. Only when a malach, a
MARCH 16 ministering angel testified that the Shabbos table of the Ridvaz was routinely set on Thursday
evenings, in anticipation of Shabbos, was he granted an additional lease on life. Indeed, the life of the
Taanis Esther Ridvaz was extended for a number of years.
Early Childhood Dismissal 1:45
The eternal covenant between the Almighty and every Jew appears in this week’s parsha: Veshamru
Kindergarten Dismissal 2:00 Bnei Yisrael es haShabbos, the children of Israel shall observe Shabbos to make it an eternal covenant
Grades 1-6 Dismissal 2:00 for generations (31,16). Chizkuni, in his commentary, explains that the dictum of Veshamru is not
limited to Shabbos observance but rather includes an obligation to enthusiastically embrace and
Jr. High Dismissal 12:30 excitedly anticipate the gift of Shabbos throughout the week.
Yavne Dismissal 2:05
This vignette and associated commentary resonate within me because, from my earliest childhood
•••••• memories, our family Shabbos table was set and prepared by my mother, a”h on Thursdays. I never
thought much of it until I was well into adulthood and my father’s cardiologist and chavrusah marveled
MARCH 17-18 at the sight when he observed it in the home of my parents on Thursday evenings. Really, for my
mother it was a labor of love and a message of anticipation for the sanctity and serenity of the gift of
Purim - No School Shabbos.

•••••• Shortly after the passing of my mother, consistent with my daily routine, I left my home early one
morning and drove towards school for Shacharis. In the dark, I noticed two unfamiliar Chasidic men
MARCH 27 seeking a ride in the opposite direction. I offered them a ride and proceeded to drive in the opposite
direction towards their destination. In the short, two minute ride with them, they introduced
79th HAC Tribute Dinner themselves as the Beregshoizer Rebbe and his attendant and asked for my name. I shared my identity
6:00 p.m. at the and the Rebbe inquired about my mother. When I responded that she had recently passed away at the
age of 100, he offered condolences and, to my utter surprise, remarked: “Her Shabbos table was set
Mendy & Ita Klein Campus on Thursdays. She has zechusim.”

5:45 To me, that chance encounter, with individuals I don’t recall ever meeting before, represented a
postcard from my mother with a comforting message: In the eternal world, she basks in the glow of
the same malachim who graced her thoughtfully prepared Shabbos table in this world. She has
zechusim.

Have a wonderful Shabbos!

Rabbonim Visit HAC

This past Sunday, Rabbi Shmuel Faivelson, venerable Rosh Kollel of Tzefas visited
our school, interacted with some talmidim and gave heartfelt berachos to staff
and students. Born in Radin, Poland, the city where the famed Chofetz Chaim zt”l

resided and had his yeshiva, Rabbi Faivelson
miraculously survived the war and proceeded to
become a gadol b’Torah and a builder of Torah
in Eretz Yisrael. Rabbi Faivelson addressed the boys and
stated that we are all routinely confronted with various
nisyonos but we do have the capacity to rise above the
challenges and to grow in our learning. He was amazed at
the scope of our school and wished us all continued bracaha
v’hatzlacha. It was an honor for our school to host and
interact with such an esteemed visitor and for our talmidim
to gain a glimpse of the world that was.

The Academy was pleased to welcome Rabbi Moshe
Tuvia Lieff, Rav, Agudath Israel Bais Binyomin,
Brooklyn, New York who was in town this week to
address a siyum for Bais Doniel. Rabbi Lieff is no stranger to our school. His father-
in-law was Rabbi Yaakov Dardac, zt”l a renowned talmid chacham and Rebbi at the
Academy. His wife, Morah Baila, is a Yavne graduate and former Academy
preschool teacher. Rabbi Lieff himself served as Rebbi at Yavne High School and
Mesivta High School prior to his pursuit of Rabbonus. While here, he visited the
Yeshiva Ketana where he addressed its minyan and participated at an upsheren and
later interacted in learning with two of our seventh grades. We are grateful to
Rabbi Lieff for sharing his valuable time to inspire our talmidim.

Yeshiva Ketana

In preparation for learning their first Rashi, Rabbi Janowski's class had a special
visitor. Rabbi Heinemann from Grand Judaica came and shared some beautiful
stories about Rashi and his life. He also explained that many sefarim were
written just to explain how to understand Rashi and proceeded to show us a few
of those sefarim. Mazel tov to Rabbi Janowski's class on learning their first Rashi
this week!

Top Shacharis attendance in the fifth grade: Nosson Altose, Reuven Dessler,
Chaim Gold, Moshe Goldstein, Chaim Katz, Mordy Kiss, Shlomo Maimon, Shlomo Resnick, Yaakov Rosner, Moshe Dov
Salamon, Lazer Silver, Shimshy Stempel and Yaakov Tolchinsky. These boys were treated to “Ice Cream Thursdsay” with all
the toppings. Other treats were distributed to the remaining boys for their attendance, as well.

This week’s “Shnayim Mikra” Target Card winners: (4th grade) Yona Aryeh Covitch, Levi Fertel, Moshe Kushnersky, Eliyahu

Daf-a-Day Siyum

With an outpouring of emo-
tion and an incredible feeling
of kavod haTorah, the entire
Yeshiva Ketana and Junior
High participated in a gala
siyum this week to celebrate
the completion of the mid-
winter Daf-A-Day learning
program. The enthusiasm
and excitement generated by
this program was unbe-
lievable. Wherever the
boys went for midwinter
break they made sure to
make time to learn their
“Daf-a-Day.” With music,
a beautiful seuda and per-
sonalized mementos of
the occasion, the boys will
surely remember this
event for years to come.

Girls Elementary

Morah Libersohn’s first grade decorated HUGE marshmallows when
they learned about Yom Sheini, where the waters were divided be-
tween the oceans and the sky. They decorated the top and bottom of

their marshmallows with edible
blue sugar and markers to look
just like the divided waters. In the
picture, the girls are also wearing smiley faces, be-
cause it was Purim Katan that day.
Miss Libersohn's third grade built edible igloos out of
marshmallows.
General Studies
Our first graders are swimming in a sea of learning
with aquatic animals and facts! After reading an informative text on penguins, the girls
wrote original essays. In Mrs. Axelrod’s class, an essay cannot be just a writing assign-
ment. The girls crafted their essay ‘within’ a penguin. What impressive writers!

Kindergarten

During Music this week, we sang “Simcha the Clown” and
each kindergartner colored their own Simcha Clown
picture. Purim is definitely in the air!
In conjunction in learning the letter Y our classes decorated
cookies with yellow frosting…. Yummy!

Yavne High School

Yavne 8th graders are gearing up for production! They are “gleaming”
and “glistening” on stage as they practice ensemble and “Go for the
Gold”!
We are extremely proud of the many students who voluntarily attend-
ed the Sunday filter drive, co-hosted by the new T.A.G. Cleveland. The
response to this drive (over 70 students participated despite having
multiple events to attend on the same day!) is a credit to the courage
and commitment of our student and parent body. The T.A.G. representatives were blown away by the strength our students
displayed, from the number of students who don’t own devices, by choice, to the students who are making serious and
challenging improvements in their use of technology. Being the first time we hosted such an event, it was inspiring, as well as a
learning experience for all. We look forward to continuing this incredible initiative and incorporating the insights gleaned to
further enhance the experience for our students.

The following is a letter which we received from the T.A.G. coordinator following the event. May this be a zechus for our girls,
our school and our community and May Hashem continue to send us the siyata dishmaya
we need to keep moving forward!

Good evening,
Thank you again for allowing us to contribute to the
students' energy and growth in the area of technolo-
gy. It was a real chizuk for our entire team to partici-
pate in your exciting and very successful campaign,
and a huge boost for me personally as we try to
establish our office in the community.
Here are some pictures from the event. Please reach out at any time if there is
any more we can offer. Thanks!

Excitement is mounting as production day grows near. Yavne students are hard at work practicing, sewing and preparing! We
look forward to seeing you at the production. Tickets are available online at the HAC website. Reserve yours now!!!!

Photo of the Week

It has definitely been a snowy month! Pictured here, our boys are watching
Larry, from the school maintenance division, clearing the sidewalks with the
snow blower. Thank you, Larry for your hard work!

From the Transportation Department

We know that traffic can become congested around Warrensville Center Road at the 3:30 dismissal. When approaching
the driveway to Oakwood, please be sure to yield to any school bus exi ng the driveway. Allowing the bus to exit helps
our students get home without delay. We appreciate your help!
