NOVEMBER 24 A prominent English couple, renowned for their extraordinary philanthropy and
hospitality, maintained their home as a haven for anyone in need of a place to stay for a
Thanksgiving night, a week, or longer.
Boys Division Only
Grades 1-4 9:00 Start Their grown children often joked that they rarely slept in the same room two nights in a
Grades 5-6 7:45 Minyan row; they simply chose a vacant room and claimed it as their own. One evening, at the
kitchen table, a meshulach, charity collector, asked his tablemate how long guests can
Jr. High Boys actually stay? His companion – who happened to be his host – responded, "Don't be
M’dor L’dor at 7:50 afraid. I am here for years and no one has ever asked me to leave!" True story!
Grades 1-6 12:00 Dismissal
Jr. High Boys 2:10 Dismissal In Parshas Vayeira (18,1) we find that, in an effort to welcome guests, Avraham Avinu sat
in the very entranceway of his tent in the heat of the day. When guests failed to appear,
•••••• he sent his servant, Eliezer, to search for them. And when that failed, Avraham himself
went out to look for wayfarers (Bava Metziah 86B).
NOVEMBER 25
Why was Avraham Avinu so intent on entertaining guests when, strictly speaking, the
Regular Start mitzvah of hachnasas orchim, hospitality, is obligatory only when the situation presents
Early Childhood 11:45 Dismissal itself? In the absence of guests, there is no such requirement. In addition, what benefit
was derived with the eventual arrival of malachim, angels, who did not truly require his
Kindergarten 12:00 Dismissal hospitality?
Grades 1-6 12:00 Dismissal
Jr. High Boys 12:30 Dismissal Rabbi Shlomo Heiman, zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva, Mesivta Torah Vodaath, explained that
Avraham Avinu's objective in searching for guests was twofold: First, to feed the hungry
Yavne 12:00 Dismissal wayfarers; and, second, to establish a generational precedent of generosity, sincerity and
hospitality. Though he did not receive guests in the traditional sense, and thereby
•••••• achieve his first objective, nevertheless, the second objective was accomplished and the
lessons of generosity, sincerity and hospitality were indeed accomplished through the
NOVEMBER 30 angels.

Kindergarten Parent Teacher In this week's parsha, Chayeii Sara, Rivka displays an outstanding level of chesed when
Conferences offering to draw water not merely for Eliezer, but for his camels as well. This act is
6:30-10:00 considered as lifnim meshuras hadin, above and beyond the call of duty – and, perhaps,
also sets an out-of-the-box example for others that hachnasas orchim is not limited to
•••••• one's home and not only to human beings.

JANUARY 10 Like Avraham Avinu and like Rivkah, our English couple is a wonderful example of concern
for others. Each in our own way, our actions today continue the legacies of our
Early Childhood forefathers who established the foundations of our faith – including kindness and
Parent Teacher Conferences hospitality.

Junior High School

Rabbi Yoisef Manne’s seventh grade class earned an incentive and invited the
two other seventh grades to their to’ameha last Erev Shabbos.

This past week, students in the boys
Junior High division had the privilege
to witness a professional
photographer demonstrate how the
first wet plate collodion photos were taken in the United States during the
Civil War. This live history lesson brought to life the history lessons about the
invention of photography during the civil war to life. We are grateful to
professional photographer, Paul Lender, for sharing his time and expertise
with our students.

Yeshiva Ketana

When Rabbi Thav’s second grade learned the pasuk in Chumash that has the
word chanichav in it, as usual, the class learned the shoresh of the word. But this
time, with the foresight of their Rebbi and the aid of their classroom Clever
Touch, the boys were excited to learn that the Hebrew word chinuch means
training and is actually part of their school’s name!

Mazel tov to Yitzy Levin and his family who celebrated his upsherin this week in
Rabbi Matitia’s third grade class. May he
always be a source of great nachas!

Rabbi Matitia’s third grade talmidim celebrated
their first siyum on Parshas Vayeitzei. The
simcha was enhanced with divrei Torah from
Yosef Kutoff, Yisrael Kutoff, Yitzi Udman and
Ephraim Greenblatt.

Mazel tov to Boruch Borchardt, his parents and
the entire family who attended his siyum on Sefer Tehillim last week. Thanks to Rabbi
Borchardt for making the dancing extra lebidige.
Top Shachris winners in the sixth grade (includes daily attendance with proper davening and proper decorum): Nosson
Altose, Moshe Axelrod, Reuven Dessler, Menachem Elkan, Chaim Gold, Meir Jacoby, Chaim Katz, Mordy Kiss, Shlomo
Maimon, Shlomo Resnick, Yaakov Rosner, Moshe Salamon, Lazer Silver and Shimshy Stempel. These boys will be treated
to their choice of a slice of pizza or french fries for their admirable efforts. Other treats will be distributed to the
remaining boys, as well.

Girls Elementary

In connection to our midos program, the classes have been busy working
on having an ayin tova. For the new incentive this month,” Look and find

the spark”, each class received a jar to
keep track of all positivity. We are
looking forward to fill the jars so the
girls can earn a “sparkling” activity with
Mrs. Kutoff.
Mazel tov to Mrs. Goldstein’s and Mrs. Dimarsky’s sixth grade on the completion
of Parshas Shelach. The sixth grade celebrated with a gala siyum. They baked delicious
challah after learning about the halachos of hafrashas challah and enjoyed hot cocoa
and cookies too!

Yavne High School

This past week, our Cheshvan 8th grade G.O. heads, Rivka Esther Corbett,
Malky Dafner, Ahuva Malcmacher, Chanie Mann, and Eliana Shulman
prepared an enjoyable assembly with the month’s theme. The girls were
treated to bracelets and red licorice – a hint of the red string bracelets of
Kever Rochel. The girls were divided into teams and had a string hunt
which, when tied together, determined who had the longest string and
was the winner. In addition each girl who tied a string filled out a card
expressing how they follow the example of Rochel Imeinu, and practice specific acts of vatranus.
One of the special Yavne programs we look forward to when the clock changes and Friday nights are long, is the Leil
Shabbos Oneg. We aim to facilitate meaningful fun in a Shabbosdig atmosphere. Thank you, Rabbi and Mrs. Elias for
graciously hosting our 7th grade oneg this past Shabbos, Parshas Vayeira . Thank you, Mrs. Katz and Mrs. Samowitz, 7th
grade mechanechos, for all the arrangements; and thank you, Rabbi Yitzchok Kahn, a 7th grade Yavne parent, as well as

our esteemed menahel of Junior High for being guest speaker. Thank you
to all our girls, parents and teachers who contributed. Despite the
inclement weather, we had an overwhelming crowd enjoying comradery
outside the school setting. We look forward to our next oneg in Cleveland
Heights, iyH.
Our girls are hard at work preparing for what is sure to be an epic Bais
Yaakov Convention. The ruach and excitement fills our halls and we can
hardly wait for this special event!

Kindergarten

Last week was Parshas Vayeira and our kindergartners were busy with all kinds of
activities related to the lessons in the parsha!

Morah Heigh and Morah Tehilla’s kindergartners were happy to observe the
mitzvah of bikur cholim by calling
a woman who is not well. If you
heard the kinderlach sing the
refuah shelaima song, you could
imagine how happy it made the
woman on the other side of the
line. We wish a refuah shelaima
to all who need it!

A special visitor came to our
Kindergarten and our kinder-lach
were all to happy to welcome
him! The special “guest” shared a very interesting story with the kinderlach and
they thanked him for coming.

Some of our classes beaded special hangers to be used for the mitzva of
hachnosas orchim. Special thanks to Mr. Nissi Heifetz of Tip Top Cleaners for
donating the hangers!

Early Childhood

Our kinderlach learned that in this week’s parsha, Avraham wanted Eliezer to find a good girl
who does “chessed” for Yitzchak. The moros explained to the children what doing a chessed
means, and role played a variety of chessed acts. In conjunction with what the teachers
learned in our recent “Conscious Discipline” workshop about having a “kindness box,” our

moros created chessed boxes and encouraged the
children to be kind to one another. The teachers then
put a colorful heart in the chessed box every time a
child was spotted doing a chessed .

Morah Naomi and Morah Miriam’s class had a fun time
acting out the parsha! They had a big camel in their classroom that each child was able
to ride to the “well” where “Rivka” was standing. Our moros were able to teach their
students about many details of the parsha, as well as topics that correlate with the sto-
ries of the parsha such as wells, water, camels, numbers etc.

Morah Shani and Morah Elisheva created a working well in their classroom and the
kinderlach enjoyed using it over and over as they role-played the parsha story.

PTA Corner

We had a great me at PTA's Sunday Playdate. The kids enjoyed

making projects, jumping on moon bounces, and ge ng face paint

from our very own fourth grade student, Shifra Kibel. Meanwhile

parents were able to socialize and meet new families. Mothers

commented on how thankful they were to see their children in

After School Enrichment

In an effort to offer interes ng programing for our students, we are turning to our parents to see if there is someone
who may have a special talent or interest in teaching a class. Classes can take place a er school during the week or on
Sundays. We have a special need for sport coaches (for girls or boys). For more informa on or to learn more about the
program, please reach out by email to [email protected]. Thank you!

Seeking Substitute Office Personnel
