WITHIN OUR WORLD

A Monthly Publication by the West Philadelphia Senior Community Center

TABLE OF CONTENTS

ART SHOWCASE 2

May is Older Americans Month—a national celebration led HEALTH & WELLNESS FAIR 7

by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), which is an agency OPEN HOUSE 15
within The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Older Americans Month is especially significant because ACL says that West Philadelphia
more than ever before older Americans are striving for wellness, focusing Senior Community Center
on independence, and advocating for themselves and others. 1016 N. 41st St., Philadelphia, PA 19104
Here at the WOW of West Philadelphia we know that’s true! Every day we 215-386-0379 • westphilaseniorcenter.o1rg
see our dynamic members living life to the fullest through the many engaging
and interesting choices we provide to strengthen body, mind, and soul.
If you’ve made a promise to yourself to improve your health, enrich your
well-being, expand your creativity, or grow your social network, you
couldn’t choose a better time than Older Americans Month—as seniors
right here at our beloved WPSCC, and across the nation, celebrate their
abiding fortitude and capacity to live, love and learn.
During Older Americans Month, and indeed all through the year, we
cherish your participation in WPSCC and are honored you have made us
a part of your life.

We wish you joy, friendship, and new opportunities during this month
of celebration!

Qualified seniors in West and Southwest Philadelphia who are temporarily unable to safely leave home due to
illness, disability, or frailty can receive vital services at no cost to help them to continue to remain independent and
live successfully in their home. In-Home Support services are funded by the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging
(PCA). Services are brought to homebound seniors by a team of specially trained case managers who work under
the leadership of the West Philadelphia Senior Community Center (WPSCC).
Any West and Southwest Philadelphia residents age 60 or older who are temporarily or situationally homebound

• Counseling and assistance with accessing benefits and more

Who is eligible?

Individuals who are age 60 and older who are temporarily or situationally homebound (unable to safely leave
home without personal assistance or supervision) due to mental or physical illness, disability, frailty, or extreme
weather conditions. Eligibility is not based on individual or household income.
