Luckily for her, because of the Travel Loan offered by PHCCI-MPC which addressed this need,
she was able to attend the said congress, where she chanced to meet the other participants
who hailed from the rich and poor countries of the earth. Her attendance to this world
congress enhanced her knowledge and, as she said, “ eventually appreciate what I and the
other advocates are doing in development work.” Moreover, she said that travelling is also an
opportunity to see the other side of the world — met relatives in Calgary and Vancouver; and
friends, Anne, Lota, Flora and new friends she bumped into on the road of her life’s journey.
Ms. Pariña is
a coop trainer-officer of
PHCCI-MPC since 1974.
The journey for
Ms. Pariña continues for

“We help members help themselves”
This is the truth that captures the coop journey
of MR. LEONARDO G. AGUILAR who strongly believes
that PHCCI-MPC is committed to uplift the plight of its
members.
Mr. Aguilar became a member of the
cooperative on September 5, 2001, at which time he
was already a father to six children who were then
enrolled in different academic levels with one taking
up Bachelor of Laws, three taking different courses in
college, one in high school and his youngest daughter
still in elementary. In addition, his wife has enrolled in
102
post graduate studies which stretched the family budget.
At times when he needed additional cash to meet the ever-growing
need of the family, PHCCI became a dependable pillar which could
be relied upon in times of need. As a member of the cooperative, he
patronized the different products and services it offered and sought its
advice on how to manage and maximize the available resources. Ever
grateful of the assistance provided by the cooperative “Nards”, as he is
fondly called by his peers, never turned his back to repay the loans he
obtained from the cooperative thereby ensuring that in his own little
way the cycle wherein the COOP is able to help those in need continues
to flourish.
The partnership
between Nards and
PHCCI which began
on that fateful day of
September 5, 2001 has
flourished and borne
fruit. With the help of
PHCCI his wife and six children all finished their studies and graduated from their
respective fields. One of his children finished Bachelor of Laws and has been a
private practitioner since 2005. Another child finished Geothermal Engineering
while three of his children finished Bachelor of Nursing. His youngest daughter
took up architecture and had recently graduated.
Having witnessed first hand the advantages of being a member of the
cooperative and how it had greatly helped him in time of need, he had not failed
to share his success story. He started small by convincing his children to become
members of PHCCI and had encouraged some of his co-workers as well.
Having retired from government service in the year 2017, he feels that
PHCCI remains his ever dependable partner in addressing his financial needs. Such
partnership is indeed a concrete embodiment of how PHCCI as an institution is
helping its members help themselves.

“ .... learning to save and be responsible
to my obligations with PHCCI.”
A meaningful realization from a responsible coop member, MS.
PABLITA C. PACIA, a housewife, whose encounter with PHCCI-MPC has
brought significant changes in her life!
1. Ms. Pacia, a member of PHCCI who usually transacts
business with the PHCCI Tanauan Satellite Office,
was just too happy for the opening of PHCCI Abuyog
Satellite Office. 2. With better accessibility, because
of its closer to her home, the Cooperative become
her succor in times of need. 3. The said Coop Satellite
opening office has become a turning point of her life.
104
4. The said opening has become a turning point of her life.
Being a housewife, Ms. Pacia’s hands were always full of
“things to do” to keep her home safe and comfortable for
her 3 kids and her husband.
Just like any other member of PHCCI-MPC especially
upon learning the array of services it could offer its members,
she availed of them graciously that has kept her family
financially afloat and free from financial worries, since
then. When Ms. Pacia’s capital share reached Php 3,000,
she started her loan-pay-reloan scheme with PHCCI-MPC
to augment her family’s income. She was able to maintain
her sari-sari Store which sustained their daily needs and
gave her enough money for her children’s education and
payment for her SSS and Philhealth premiums. And topping
them all, her eldest daughter graduated in college and
is now working abroad; her other children are in school,
who Ms. Pacia is expecting to finish college to inspire her
husband; and the physical improvements of her house, like
the tiled floor of her ‘bungalow’ that added pride and dignity
to her. With all these changes in her life as a housewife and
a mother, Ms. Pacia has become more organized, efficient
and effective in her home management. She is enjoying
a breeze in budgeting her family’s income. Furthermore,
she’s a proud Star Member of PHCCI-MPC. Right now, she
just recently paid her Php 70,000 commercial loan with
PHCCI-MPC, for her business is doing good.
What a beautiful experience of MS. PABLITA C.
PACIA, on the impact of PHCCI-MPC on her life and family
as well!

“PHCCI-MPC is the best cooperative
for seniors there is for a lifetime”
A sincere
compliment from a
grateful MS. VALENTINA
B. MARTA, who is
undoubtedly the most
senior member of
PHCCI-MPC to date!
Ms. Marta,
sweetly addressed as
Mana Nena, is 100
years old and was one
of the most active members of PHCCI-MPC since she became a member
and an officer in 1973. She served twice as Secretary of the Supervisory
Committee from 1973-1998, then as member of the Credit Committee
and Chairperson of the Election Committee.
Mana Nena proudly shared her story of how she invested her
time, treasure and talent with the coop that brought about a beautiful
relationship which she never tires to tell anyone interested to listen. She
has lived the essence of cooperative, that is, sharing through her deposits
(savings and share capital) and at the same time borrowing from them. One
106
of her cherished memories with PHCCI is how she had managed
well to deposit in her accounts with the coop in preparation
for availing of its loan services to support the college studies of
almost all of her 5 children until their graduation. Dr. Maria Flor
Elona, her daughter, said that this was the pattern her mother
did in availing the loan services at PHCCI: “After availing of a
loan, my mother saw to it that the monthly amortization was
met so that she would be able to apply for another loan in time
for the next examination and payment for tuition fees of her
children.”
Mana Nena is happy with the services she has received as
a member of the coop all through the years. In fact, the privilege
granted her by the government upon reaching her Centennial
Anniversary that included a cash incentive of Php 100,000 was
deposited at PHCCI-MPC.
You’re a living testimony of PHCCI-MPC’s greatness, MS. VALENTINA B.
MARTA!

“Enjoy ako han akon tanan nagin mga trabaho from
Job Order, Supply Assistant, Records Assistant to IT;

(I enjoyed all the work assigned to me from Job Order, Supply Assistant,
Records Assistant to IT, I don’t choose particular work assignment, for
as long as I could perform my job, I always enjoy it)
A heartfelt testimony from a dedicated PHCCI-MPC employee, MR.
ROLANDO M. ABELLA, whose love for work is his employer’s delight!
Mr. Abella, intimately called Lando by his friends, joined PHCCI in 1999
as an On the Job Trainee (OJT) but was eventually hired as a regular employee
in 2001. From among the rank and file in at PHCCI, he was designated as Supply
Assistant where
he managed
his time from
procurement of
the office supplies
and materials, inventory of supplies and records management. He always
did all these work with less supervision. After 5 years of efficient and
dedicated work, he was transferred to the EDP Section and managed the
IT System of the cooperative for more than 6 years with him as the only
staff of the unit. He was never selfish to give service to the coop, that is,
by extending his working time up to 1:00 A.M. so that a task assigned
to him is done. Moreover, even when he is on vacation leave, he would
be called by the PHCCI-MPC Manager, MR. ZACARIAS MATE, to report to
work each time a technical problem occurred with the computer system.
He could vividly recall the times when he could not report for work
because of flooding in the area where he lived, Mr. Mate, even in such
cases, would still bring him to the coop so that PHCCI-MPC operations
would not be hampered. Mr. Abella’s dedication to work always remain
108
high as he made sure not to waver from any call to service at the coop, admittedly,
making him a real asset to his superiors.
There is no doubt that Mr. Abella is a valuable asset to PHCCI-MPC. He
however considers meeting his wife at PHCCI, fulfilling his dream of owning 3 units
of tricycles, and acquiring a residential lot through the coop as a reward for his
scrupulous life and dedicated service to the coop. Said he, “Elementary pala ako
ginhingyap ko na gud ito nga tricycle; ngan makagtrabaho ngani ako, first ko nga
bubuhaton para makapalit
gud ako hito it pag-avail
hin loan ha PHCCI” (I was
still an elementary kid
when I dreamed of having
a tricycle; If I can find work,
the first thing that I should
do is to really buy a unit by
availing a loan from PHCCI).
You’re greatly
rewarded for your
unparalleled dedication,
commitment and hard
work, MR. ROLANDO M.
ABELLA!

A Resilient Provider and Member-owner
“The savings I had in the coop and the calamity loans to the members
were big help to me.”
The saying, ‘save for the rainy days,’ has time and again been proven true
and does really happen as experienced by MS. LIEZEL Q. AMIDA!
Ms. Amida became a member of PHCCI
in 2012 and after a year of her membership
with the coop, Yolanda, the strongest typhoon
that ever hit the country came and did not
spare her family from its wrath. Luckily, no one
in her family was swallowed by the flood when
110
big waves surged along the
seacoast of San Joaquin, Palo,
but it left them a house with a
leaking roof. As expected, she
availed of loans from PHCCI-
MPC to fix their house, aside
from the assistance extended
by the government and
NGOs and her return to her
employment.
Ms. Amida being the
breadwinner in the family,
gratefully thanks the services
of PHCCI-MPC that make
her financially afloat from a
meager income as a casual
employee. Bills are paid on
time and she is able to put food
on the table for her family.
Thus, she ensures that a part
of her income is deposited
in her savings account and a
part of it goes to payment of
her loans to help other coop
members avail of the same
services from PHCCI-MPC.
Truly, PHCCI-MPC is a
haven of hope for members,
like MS. LIEZEL Q. AMIDA!

A dedicated Member, Volunteer and Officer
“I pray for PHCCI to continuously soar high for the next 50 years ... it
can continue to provide assistance to its members ... also as a contributor to
the economic development of Region VIII”, wishes Ms. Socorro Q. Ramos for
PHCCI-MPC 50th Anniversary.
Ms. Ramos began her journey with PHCCI-MPC in 1997 when she
transferred employment to an agency based in Tacloban
City. What reinforced her trust and confidence was
when she discovered that smaller amount put in savings
at PHCCI-MPC earned bigger interest than her money
saved in a private bank in preparation for her ceasarian
section operation. Since then, she has become a loyal
patron of the Cooperative and in 2005, became a Star
Member. In 2015, with the Chairpersonship of Mrs.
Flordeliz B. Menzon, she was appointed member and
later on as the Chairperson of the Ethics Committee,
tasked to formulate policies/programs on 5S, recognize
volunteer services, house rules, mortuary assistance
to volunteers, policy guidelines and the Fr. Flan Daffy
Scholarship Program which was launched in March,
112
2018 as part of the activities
lined up for the Golden
Anniversary of PHCCI-MPC.
In 2017, she was elected
member of the Board of
Directors and Chaired
the Human Resource
Committee. She was able
to get the approval of the
Board for the PHCCI-MPC
Tacloban’s Performance Management System, Guidelines on the Grant for
Incentives for Personnel, Return Service Policies, Policies on Employees’ Loans,
among others. At present, she is the Chairperson of the Delinquency Committee
of the Cooperative.
May your long journey with PHCCI, bear more fruits in the vineyard of the
Lord, MS. SOCORRO Q. RAMOS!

when Titina entered it, everything would just light up ...
everyone in the room would just boom,

Well, it’s superfluous to say that everyone was alert, alive and enthusiastic
inspired by this great woman, MS. VALENTINA B. CALLEJA, a natural comic, her
ace as the Chairperson of the Mediation and Conciliation Committee (MedCom)!
Ms. Calleja, fondly called Ma’am Titina, chaired the said committee in 2015
and 2016. Composed of 3 members, the MedCom
was relatively new then compared to the other
committees that were part of PHCCI-MPC since
its inception. She was a CDA certified mediator
after she passed the training required by CDA.
The role of the MedCom in loan
delinquency control is crucial. When a member-

“ .... agreeing to volunteer in PHCCI
was simply to silence someone who
for the longest time kept badgering on me”
This is how MS. LORNA S. CINCO, former
Ethics Committee Chairperson and Board
Secretary, describes her dance with PHCCI-
MPC. As Neil Armstrong had said, “Mystery
creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man’s
desire to understand,” so is Ms. Cinco whose
transformation from a reluctant volunteer to
one who truly embraces the coop life, is really a
wonder and a mystery!
Ms. Cinco said that volunteering in the
116
coop became worth considering only after she was asked
by Chairperson EVELYN CLARIN to help craft the PHCCI Code
of Ethics, a document which the coop needed in order to
upgrade its PESOS rating. The PESOS which serves as the
barometer for the coop’s health, had an ethical code among
its criteria and the adoption of one by PHCCI was paramount
to its PESOS rate upgrade. Credit goes to her too, when she
introduced the 5S Program that helped improve the office
management system and workplace maintenance for the
employees of PHCCI-MPC. The untiring efforts of the team of
5S Program monitors composed of SOC RAMOS, MICHELLE
SEVILLA, MARISSA PILAPIL, MANA ROSING PEDROSA and
LORNA CINCO had cleared the huge volume of garbage which
were kept for years in the premises of the cooperative.
After being slowly immersed in coop work, she did not
belabor accepting a request in 2011 to be the Secretary of the
PHCCI-MPC Board, because she knew that the Board needed her services. As Board Secretary, she takes pride
in her work to digitize the policies adopted through resolutions by the
Board, after she found out that the bases of
important policies could no longer be traced.
For one who has intimately embraced the
ideals of cooperative life, she has this to say,
“.... coop volunteer work is like a roller coaster
ride, at first there was hesitation and, when
I finally did it, there was joy in the ride and, I
like the feeling of being counted once the task
is accomplished.”
May your enlightenment as a volunteer
in the coop shine through many other PHCCI
members path, MS. LORNA S. CINCO!

“I work with passion and commitment”
PHCCI-MPC Tacloban must have been eyeing on you since
Day 1 of your On-the-Job Training, MR. PAUL REYNOLD T. POMIDA,
because of your good attitude towards work!
Mr. Pomida was a student from the Eastern Visayas State
University (EVSU) who was taking up Bachelor
of Arts in English Language when he was
assigned at PHCCI-MPC Tacloban for his On¬the-
Job Training in 2015, a requirement before
118
graduation from college. He was assigned at the
BOD Office where he assisted its officers and
on the process he was able to familiarize with
the nature of work at the coop. As a practicing
student, he showed professionalism in his work
which impressed the management as well as the
officers. After graduation, he applied at PHCCI and
was immediately hired as BOD Office Associate.
He excelled in his work and performed beyond
what was expected from him. Fast forward, he was
promoted as Laboratory Cooperative Supervisor.
He managed and led the LabCoop well and worked
for the organization of its interim officers. He
spearheaded various activities of the coops’ young
members and is instrumental in the stable and
functional operations of the PHCCI LabCoop.
Asked about his work attitude, Mr. Pomida said,
“I work with passion and commitment. I discipline
myself so that I could deliver what is asked from me
and what is due to me.”
Today, because of Mr. Pomida’s efforts,
dedication, commitment and love for the coop, and
with the guidance of PHCCI-MPC’s management,
the BOD and Committee Officers, the LabCoop is
now steadfast in its task of serving the youth and
educating them the value of savings.
Let your work MR. PAUL REYNOLD T. POMIDA,
be always the benchmark for a challenge!
