The Six Elements Of Design
• Line
• Shape
• Direction
• Size
• Texture
• Color
Lines
• Lines are the foundations for a
drawing/design and different lines can
mean different things such as curved
lines meaning comfort and ease and
vertical lines meaning strength
Shapes
• A shape is a closed and defined area
and some examples includes circles,
squares and triangles
Shapes Continued
• A positive shape automatically makes
negative shape like the example below
Direction
• Direction is there to guide the viewers
eye from area to another with the
three most common methods being
horizontal, vertical, and diagonal
• And the picture on the left side uses
vertical direction lines
Size
• Size is to put it simply the object's
overall measurement and dimensions
Texture
• Texture refers to the surface quality of
something whether it be smooth,
rough, fuzzy etc..
Color
• Color can have a subtle impact on
your design because different colors
mean different things like red meaning
danger, violence and anger while also
meaning love, cupid, and passion
