Soldering
Workshop
IEEE holds multiple tutorial based
events to help engineering students
with various practical skills. These
pictures are from one of our
soldering workshops, which we hold
every semester. Other workshops
that IEEE has held include command
line tutorials, and paper circuit
workshops
IEEE Game Night
IEEE also tries to put on at least one IEEE
Game Night every semester to give
everyone a night to relax , before exams hit.
We bring as much gaming systems as
possible, play Jenga, and of course Cards
Against Humanity.
General Meetings
Last of course is our general
meetings, which is where we
communicate to our members
what happened in the past month,
hold speaker sessions with local
professionals, and talk about
opportunities within the club.
2108SP R IN G HKN
Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is the National
Honor Society for Electrical and
Computer Engineers. Members
consist of students, alumni, and
other professionals who have
demonstrated exceptional academic and
professional accomplishments. Student members are
selected on the basis of scholastic standing, character, and
leadership. As a non-profit organization based in the islands
of Hawai‘i, our mission is to encourage excellence within the
electrical and computer engineering fields, as well as
providing service to our community through volunteering and
community service projects.

OUR MISSION
The Society of Automotive Engineers at UH Manoa is a student-
operated, registered collegiate chapter of SAE International
based out of the UH Manoa campus. SAE ENCOURAGES the success
and continuity of our sponsored design projects through the
addition of underclassmen members to the projects
and provision of supplemental funding opportunities. sAE serves
to promote the early development of engineering students with
project experience and fabrication skills, increasing the quality
of engineers graduating from the College of Engineering.
GENERAL MEETINGS
General meetings are held monthly to discuss
future socials and events, updates on the senior
projects, guest speakers involved in automotive
related fields, and recognize active members.
Food is always provided at the end!
FUNDRAISERS
SAE raised funds for the club and senior
projects through car washes, Krispy Kreme
donuts, and social events

INDUSTRIAL LECTURE
SAE hosted Jim Shaw on December 1, 2017 for an industrial lecture on optimizing design and design
variations through Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis, and Computational Fluid
Dynamics. Jim is currently the Managing Director of Fastway Engineering, an engineering firm
dedicated to helping companies optimize their CAD/CAE software use. After the lecture, lunch was
provided and Jim was given a tour of Holmes Hall 140.
FORMULA SAE
Formula SAE is an international competition in which students research, design, manufacture, and
test a small formula-style race car. The competition is comprised of static and dynamic events. The
static events test the engineering design and business strategies, while the dynamic events test the
vehicle's performance and reliability. The Rainbow Warrior Racing team will represent the
University of Hawaii at Mānoa at FSAE Lincoln on June 20-23, 2018.
ASME HUMAN POWERED VEHICLE
ASME Human Powered Vehicle is a design project in which engineering students design and construct
a human powered vehicle (HPV) and enter the ASME e-fest west HPV Challenge. the completed HPV Was
entered into a drag race and an endurance race. Each team was judged on safety, speed, endurance,
and innovation. This year's team, Ke Koa Eha O Ke Alehele, came up with the idea to create a foldable
vehicle for easy storage and won third place in the innovation category of the competition.
ELECTRIC AUTONOMOUSLY CONTROLLED VEHICLE
eACTV, better known as the electric Autonomously Controlled Vehicle, is being engineered to
validate the concept of an autonomous cargo-carrying system to service the University of Hawaii at
Manoa (UHM) campus while utilizing technologies from the Hawaii Space Flight Lab (HSFL). Our
members are currently incorporating the electronics of hardwired and wireless controls to test
the capabilities of our vehicle and to act as a prototype for future vehicles. Our project is also
contributing to Hawaii's Clean Energy Initiative to get Hawaii to 100% clean energy by the year 2045.
Society of Women
Engineers
SWE collegite section at UH Manoa is one of the most
active engineering societies on campus. Our members
include female and male students who promote women in
engineering. Through SWE events, SWE members build
community, network with local professionals and
demonstrate the value of diversity and expand the image
of the engineering profession as a positive force in the
quality of life.
